  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Stroke, and not the good kind.

Hearts out to you. Be sure to be religious about taking your anticoagulant. I’m a fan of the factor Xa inhibitors for this…Eliquis, etc.

Guy (56) at work recently had one and as far as I know made a complete recovery.
He lives across the street from the FD so the response was immediate - he got amazingly lucky there. Here's the thing though: He still smokes and drinks. I want to wring his neck but of course it's none of my business. About a year ago he had a heart attack, think a-fib too.

Gosh! What a nasty surprise. How are you feeling now?

Are you worried?

I hope you can get back to 100%.

My waitress at the diner three weeks ago told me she had a stroke in late November. She's only in her 40's! Has a son in college. She has been there for seven years. She looked almost herself, but a little peaked. She said she had to learn to walk again. I was surprised to see her working so soon after such a major setback.

I am feeling better, and my speech has returned to normal. The main symptom was weakness, and I lost my ability to speak. Scary and tough to communicate to people what was wrong. I greatly appreciate all of the support and good wishes. Working to avoid any stress and to keep calm.

Good to hear that you are feeling better. I have had some health issues in the last couple of years but by far the worst have been the speech problem so I can definitely relate. I had speech therapy for a while and although it has improve considerably, sometimes I simply cannot talk. I could be going just fine and then it happens. The only word that comes out is “fuck”. My speech therapy gave me an app for my ipad, it has emojis that one can point to in order to communicate with someone. It is really helpful. Best of luck.

Sorry, eddielee that you had to go through that. I'm at that age, and i worry about things like that. I worry enough that I've talked myself into selling my house soon and moving into an retirement apartment complex. I figure that if I have a serious medical issue, that someone would notice my absence of activity much soon that living along in my house. Since no one comes to my house on a regular basis.

I hope you continue to improve.

I had a stroke this past Friday. I was released from the hospital on Wednesday. I'm still very weak. A-fib may have been the cause.
Sorry to hear. Had Afib and took flecainide for 2 years and felt like a zombie. Decided to go for cardiac ablation a year and a half ago...wish I had done it sooner. Off all meds now and feel like myself again. Still take 400mg alpha tocopherol ( natural vit E) which acts as a anticoagulant without the side effects. Increase omega three's and antioxidants in your diet to help brain heal. Best for speedy recovery.
