Young people must think we lived in caves using something like this. What must they think of those of us who grew up before computers and video games and cell phones? I wonder how many of them even know what that huge, honkin' box on the right is?

Love it or hate it, Apple Inc. has had a monumental impact on the tech world over its 35 year history. From its early days as a personal computer pinoeer to its current status as a consumer electronics powerhouse, Apple has played a major role in the ways we integrate technology into our lives. Here is a look at a few of Apple’s most noteworthy products, both good and bad, since its foundation in 1976.

I have some nice "cream topping" I could add to the apple pie.

1. iphones are a great phone but from what I hear, the GPS sucks compared to Android phones.

2. I notice that Apple TV is missing from that list. Apple has had many flops (especially in the 90s) but I still respect the company.

My first computer was a Commodore 64. Loading a game, like a Pac Man clone, would take 20-30 minutes off a cassette tape.

Now THAT makes me feel old.

I don't see Apple TV as particularly revolutionary. It's just another set-top media player, and with more limitation than most. But, surprisingly, the later version with no hard drive has been a pretty big hit for them, no doubt because of the low cost.

If you wanted to buy the first iMac when it came out in 1998, but invested that $1300 in Apple stock instead, it would be worth several hundred thousand dollars today.

Nice try. It would be worth about $90k (with a real return closer to $54k) and that is before any broker fees or capital gains tax. Still a nice chunk of money from 1 stock. Mind you, the main benefit from investing in stocks is the dividends (♥ annuities) which Apple doesn't pay and probably never will. This is why from an investor's standpoint, we don't like Apple (or Google for that matter) and many investors simply will not touch stocks without dividends.

Sorry, I stand corrected. I had to look up the reference to verify the correct figures. Seems I got the value of the initial purchase wrong, not the end result:
