anyone ever feel seriously suicidal.
yesterday i was thinking about slicing my elbow vein with a razor.
i haven't done any serious attempts yet.
i was just wondering if being gay ever gets anyone down a lot too.
Loneliness is what really gets me.
never being able to have biological kids or a wife or just fit in and be normal.
i don't want to get professional help because that would mean having to come out to my parents. (still live with the 'rents)
Main point: Does anyone else ever get depressed/suicidal?

Lots of people feel depressed. The stats are that one in five people will experience clinical depression in their life. Sucidical however is a little different. Although it is not uncommon for young men to feel suicidal, it is less common to make attempts, but of course it happens...I myself thought about it (before I came out) but did not make any attempts. I am so glad that I did not feel so bad at the time to do anything like that.

I agree with operafan that you need to talk to someone. I hear that you feel you can't because you live with your parents and if you went and saw someone that would mean you would have to come out to them.

If you don't talk to someone then you MUST commit to making further posts here. There are many of us that are willing to listen/read and offer guidance/advice/a shoulder...and from the many posts that I have read, there is plenty of good advice and support.

When I get down I find someone I can trust and just sit down and talk it out.......

I once considered it. But hten I thought of this:

Suicide will not solve my problem. It will make it go away...but I won't be around to enjoy the lack of problem-ness

I have a therapist. Mom and Dad think it is just stress from school and work. Might I suggest you get one too?

anyone ever feel seriously suicidal.
"Most" people don't.

yesterday i was thinking about slicing my elbow vein with a razor.
Umm, don't do it that way.
(Or at all for that matter.)

i haven't done any serious attempts yet.
Good, don't start.

i was just wondering if being gay ever gets anyone down a lot too.
People get depressed for a lot of reasons. You might get a lot of "yes" answers to this question, but stop and look who/where you are asking. If you are looking for reasons to be depressed about being gay, you came to the right spot.

Loneliness is what really gets me.
And many others.

never being able to have biological kids or a wife or just fit in and be normal.
You can have biological kids. There are a couple options open to you for that.
As for "normal," no one is really normal, so focus on being happy with yourself and your life.

i don't want to get professional help because that would mean having to come out to my parents. (still live with the 'rents)
There are ways around that too.
It might not be the most honest thing, but you could lie to your parents, get into therapy, and talk to your therapist about your real concerns.
You might want to make yourself aware of professional confidentiality and suicide before you do so.

Main point: Does anyone else ever get depressed/suicidal?
Depressed: everyone does at one point or another.
Suicidal: most people shouldn't be.

Main point: Don't leave this alone or think you can fix this yourself.
If you can't/won't go the therapy route, find a friend you trust. Talk to that person and allow them to help you.

I have had my share of depression due to many of life's curveballs. Fortunately, I have never toyed with the suicide option. The best advice is to seek professional help at that stage.

Brijan ^ gave you an excellent reply ... Doing yourself in will NOT solve any problem .. all it will do is to cause more grief and depression to your parents, family, and others who love 'n care about you ...
You can always come up with a reason to go to a Mental health professional ... I feel if , for whatever reason ..you can't .. see if there is a FREE Clinic where you can Talk with someone .. Barring that, do you have a close friend that you are able to talk to/with ? Is there a Gay Friendly church in your area such as Metropolitan Community Church or Unity ? If so, go see their minister for some assistance ..
Normal ? There is NO such thing as Normal , in my opinion .. Normal to me is not Normal to you ... what is normal to you is not normal to your neighbor ... so Normal is a subjective term ... YOU are definately normal in your own life and way ..
I actually believe that your whole problem is that you are LONELY ... If you can't find a friend or two where you live .. then come back to JUB more often and talk to us .. there probably isn't one of us who has not experienced the same and even worse problems etc tat you are ....
You are NOT by yourself ... I wish you the very best ...

Think about this. I mean, really, really think about this.

Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem.

Decide what the problem is and than talk to a pro about it. Many communities have mental health centers. The number usually is in the phone book.

Let us know tomorrow how you're doing.

Will You?

leaves- this will go away...I promise. I think about when I tried to kill myself (twice) which was 5 years ago, and then I think about all the stuff I would have missed. And how different my life is now, and how I never thought it could get better and then it did. I would have never seen my neice and nephew take their first steps, or see my Grandmother be happy again after my Grandpa died, or have been to Spain or Iceland or London or Africa, or have found friends that I thought were lost, or made up with my ex, or fallen in love again, or smelled the way the sky smells when it's about to snow, or learned to fly a plane, or started a business, or met someone with whom I am as close as my own sister...there are so many things that I think back on; what I would have missed...and there are too many to name. I love Christmas again like I did when I was a kid. Please don't do it. Ever. It gets better...I promise. Get help, and come here often.

Leaves,

I'm worried about you.

I've been suffering with depression for about 5 years. When my depression deteriates into apathy, I know I'm in trouble. I've been in the hospital five times for suicide ideation and attempts, so I can speak with some experience.

I think you need to get some professional help immediately. This is something to take very seriously.

I attend two support groups each week with suicide survivors and if a friend of mine starts talking about killing themselves, I'll stop at nothing to get them help. Statistics strongly show that people who have suicide ideation, go through with it.

Depression is a disease that can be treated with medication, therapy and other treatments.

If you ever need to talk or vent, please PM me. If things start to spiral downward, call a suicide prevention hotline. Here's a link to that number.

I personally think you should separate the gay issues with the depression issues. Get the depression treated first then explore the gay issues with a professional therapist.

Please keep us posted.

Yes, people get depressed... yes, a proportion of those get suicidal. I used to think that everybody had thoughts of suicide b/c I did... but it's not true. But there are people who do. It's not the answer. I would strongly encourage you to talk to somebody... prefereably a counselor, but anybody you trust would be great. It's not something to take lightly. And there is a higher suicide rate amongst young homosexuals compared to their str8 counterparts.

For me I get depressed, and have suicidal thoughts, but they quickly die down the next day. I don't tell anybody about it, because it causes too much drama and I hate to burden people with that kind of shit. I've learned to deal with both depression and the thoughts of suicide.

this is going to sound harsh but u have to be cruel to be kind. SORT URSELF OUT. suicide is the easy way out of ur problems. u should confront ur problems and overcome them. depression only happens when u give up. i have a friend who has depression and she goes on and on about it, and everytime i tell her to stand up on her own to feet and instead of letting it ruin ur life. u should do things to stop it. Suicide is not the way. it is just selfish way of trying to solve ur problems. think what ur family would think of u if u did that. they would be upset, but i think they would most likely be angry becoz u didnt tell them. sorry that this sounds harsh, but u need to do something, instead of doing nothing.

chrisied,

I have to disagree with you strongly. When your clinically depressed, you can't just "SORT YOURSELF OUT". Clinical Depression is a disease that is caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain. Telling someone to "get over it, you're weak" or "pull yourself up by the bootstraps" is condescending and demeaning. It just makes the depressed person feel more helpless and weak.

When your depressed, you feel stuck. You don't have the motivation or energy to get help. Everything seems useless.

I agree that leaves needs help. He needs to reach out to a friend, family member or call a suicide prevention hotline.

Right Away.

i was just wondering if being gay ever gets anyone down a lot too.

Down to the point of suicide because I am gay? No. Never. If people don't like me being gay I sure as hell wouldn't kill myself just to make them happy. They can go fuck themselves.

i was just wondering if being gay ever gets anyone down a lot too.

I'm happy and glad being gay, but the whole loneliness is what follows the depression, but suicide really doesn't come into play about that. It just makes me depressed that no matter where I go I'm not going to appeal to anyone in the gay community.

You should talk to someone, that's a good way to vent and let all those bad feelings out..

And one more thing... having a wife and kids is "frequent" but normal is such a wide category...

You should start believing in yourself, and not giving a fuck what anyone else has to say about what's normal and what isn't, otherwise you'll drive yourself nuts trying to please everyone all at once..

Why would you want to focus on what you don't have? Do you realise how lucky you are that you have two eyes to read this, two hands to type your problem and seek advice in JUB forum, and two parents to live with? Do you realise that you're not insane. Some may have ended up in the mental hospital by now due to challenges they face in life.
Do you realise how lucky you are that you are one of the BILLIONS of sperms that actually survived and get the chance to see the sea, feel the sun, and eat hamburgers? Remeber this, "God Aint Make No Shit..."

You are more than just a human being. You are you. You play an important role in everybody's life. Do you realise that? Many people would not have had stories that involve you in them if you weren't in this world. Do you know that there are many sucessful & happy people out there and you have the ability to be one of them? Do you know that you have the energy to light a city for nearly a week in replace of electricity? Do you know that you can save sombody's life? Do you know that you have the power to impact the lives of a thousand if you start talking to them?

Do you know that you are more valueable that you could ever imagine?Don't waste it. Make full use of it.

I decided to finally post something here. I have been dealing with depression for over a year now and I can't seem to get over it. The pain has caused me to contemplate suicide on numerous occasions. People say I should call a hotline. But no one seems to understand that I don't like talking on the phone. After a "friend" back in 8th grade called me and had her boyfriend secretly listen to our conversation, I've hated talking on the phone. I feel more comfortable writing or typing out what's wrong. I am so miserable that I've become less motivated to continue living.
