It was an interesting day yesterday. It started off with me going with some university students to a local amusement park. I spent the half-day with a group of talkative girls who wanted to ride the Splash Bandit at least three times. I took the gondola over the amusement park with panoramic views of the city skyline in the distance. My route would take me back to Tama River, so I decided to walk along the recreation area along the river bank, and slowly wind down on my way back home.



At this point in the year, summer vacation has just started, especially for university students. Semester exams have just finished, and so I hadn't expected to come across the intramural team of frisbee soccer players whom I had the pleasure of observing late last summer, and whose photos I posted in a entry in this post. When I cross the large bridge (soon to be expanded to 8-lanes), I turned east and followed the path along the baseball grounds, and soccer fields, and then caught a glimpse of a familiar site. There were about 15 guys - some of them in underwear or athlete shorts - almost all shirtless - clumped together on the edge of their make-shift frisbee soccer plot of ground - a grassy field next to a low-fenced baseball ground.

The above photo (grassy field along Tama River) is the only real picture from this incident on July 30 (mobile phone camera). It doesn't show much of what I saw from a closer distance as I passed the team in 'action'.

I could tell even from a distance of 400 meters that practice was over and there were in the middle of some after-practice shenanigans. There were boisterous and jostling each other. As I approached, I was awestruck. What? ...you ask. For what possible reason? Well. they were were obviously drinking -- perhaps to celebrate the last practice before summer vacation (or maybe it is just the first practice during summer break - I hope). A few guys had cans of beer and I saw them raise the cans to their lips. There were some more shoving and pushing, and then before I realized it one guy had his shorts pulled down to expose his sweet round buttocks, and hairy bush. The guys were catcalling and wheedling him and he wasn't unsuspecting of their motivations because he seemed to be pleased - at least he and they were laughed, so I could sense immediately it was not anything malicious or mean - but all in good fun. When I got a about 30 meters passed the group, I stopped to look at my phone, pretending I was answering a text message, all the while keeping a close eye on the antics happening back with the frisbee soccer players. The laughter that followed his actions was loud, and I really want to get a good look, but I pretended to ignore this public display of maleness.

Eventually, I sat down and was able to snap some photos with my cellphone camera, but they can hardly show anything. The Erotic Drawing Workshop has five rules, which seem to be a good model for how a CMNM event might be organized. Obviously, since there may (or may not) be overt sexual behavior at other types of organized CMNM events (some of which I have attempted to set up and often discussed in blog entries here), there would likely have to be more than just 5 rules. Rules or guidelines addressing sexual behavior and the limits and bounds involved would have to be made clear with additional 'rules'.

The workshops are clearly academic sessions intended to help both novice and accomplished artists polish their skills in drawing human anatomy and the corresponding changes that occur when males (and possible females as well) are engaged in erotic behavior - either alone or in couples or groups.


Clearly not everyone is an artist, but there may be other forms that such artisitic and academic endeavours might take that would draw upon various other skill set and aesthetic consciousness, such as 'naked chamber orchestra', musical composition workshops drawing upon nude male bodywork and instrumental use of the male human body, naked dance workshops, naked theatre workshops and nude poetry studios, and performance art installation studio that meld various aspects across multi-modal forms of artistic expressions while being centred about the role of human nudity and male sexual identity and behavior.

He wrote recently via a blog comment about Japanese gay men and their seeming lack of progress in liberalization and progressive movement / development of gay equal rights, (including gay marriage / civil unions), freedom from prejudice and discrimination, and better social status as compared with other Asian nations - not to mention North America or Europe. See his message the bottom). Although I was apologizing for not answering his questions, and then actually started answering it.

Before I forgot the gist of my thought on this interesting and difficult issue to ponder to decided that I had better blog what I had uncovered so far.

My message in response to a comment from Abe (phoenixkid), who is was partly brought up in Japan (a separate and complex story worth reading elsewhere).

I am still thinking about the question you wrote - since it's a really important one to me. But I have to finish several projects by the time I leave for Spain next week (Sept 7-12) so I probably will not try to answer it in a full blog entry -- (it probably takes at least a multi-page article or even a book to adequately respond). Perhaps that'll be my next book (and only one - if you don't count the tons of writing of done on my various blogs).
I am in a writer's mood (and mode) now so it's both a good and bad (overbearing) thing.

Most of Japanese society is very clannish, tribal, and closed off in very separate and often non-interactive groups.. so being gay is just one of the sub-groups. And gay men don't feel they are particularly left out - anymore than any other person is also left out of a lot of sub-groups. There is only one mainstream in the population in Japan, but it is absolutely splintered into a million different streams within the 'mainstream.'

Therein may lie part of the answer to your question about why Japanese gay society has not progressed like most of the rest of the Asian (and the world). So.... I did in fact.. somewhat answer the question (partly... at least) that have been apologizing for not doing so.

You know... I saw these travel shows from logoonline on Asia out of the 4 Asian locations: HK, Bangkok, Korea and Japan, Out of the ones that they had on there, Japan's scene was pitiful; there just seemed like there is such oppression and hardly anywhere to go out if you are gay and want to meet other gay men.

This entry is a related follow-up to the previous post and also earlier on my Kelly's Second Life (blog). It was sparked in part because I had recently given the issues involved some deep thought, but also because I'm fascninated by scenes depicted in these photos: guys being naked around other clothed (semi-naked), and nude guys - especially here in Japan, where I am a member of an extreme social/racial minority: foreign white gay married father among 125 million Japanese.

The reason for that is because nowadays I never know when my blog and my user id will be deleted without warning. Yahoo! is infamous for doing so, but I've recognized recently that Google may being trying to 'clean up' its own house - so to speak. Dozens (that I know) of amateur 'monetized' blogs with explicit sexual gay content have disappeared from Blogspot in the last few weeks.]​

Some of these photos of Japanese men emerge from a hot springs (mineral baths) or 'onsen' were highlighted on QueerClick not long ago. I can't resist showing them again. It's just THE Japanese thing to do - and seems to be especially popular with groups of male college friends, intramural sports teams, or company excursions. They usually spend a night or two at the hot spring resort - one of the most famous - as well as accessible to Tokyo - is Hakone (near the Mt. Fuji Lakes area). Invariably, they have a nice meal - (that's a whole other story) and gulped down lots of beer, sake, and even whiskey or strong imported Chinese liquor.

They're all wearing the traditional 'yukata' - thin, cotton kimono-like coat - with (hopefully) nothing on underneath. When the alcohol, good food and camaraderie take effect, they start dancing sometimes in the buff or provocatively draped, they sing (karaoke) or do stunts (handstands, etc), and then everybody heads down to the communal baths in the resorts - usually downstairs and many times facing outdoors - a river, wooded stream or even the ocean. Those who can no longer stand - due to the alcohol- might be helped by to their rooms, and fondled or groped or even much more (I only know what I would be doing if my buddy had passed out half naked). Back in the baths, the antics usually escalate - naked men are scrubbing each other's back, and there's the relentless teasing about the size of somebody's dick (often teased that he's too big), and sooner of later somebody passes out from heat exhaustion and too much liquor. A few erections may emerge from under the suds or hidden while squatting in the thigh-deeper hot pools of volcanic mineral waters.


All in all.. it's a great time for everyone.

Japanese men are horny a whole lot of the time and - in my opinion - the repressive nature of their society actually only deepens and heightens the sexual tensions for the average company worker. The stress of so many social and work responsibilities is sometimes almost too much to bear: 'fetch this' and 'do this now' is the only thing workers hear all day and half the night since they almost always work overtime for NO (or little) pay.

Without much recourse or with little leeway for arguing back, they submissively accept what they have to do, and go about it quietly (or at least only mutter out of earshot) or complain to their 'real' friends later. All this comes bubbling to the surface when the drinks and relaxation reach the max at big group parties out in the country. The months of repressed desire also come bubbling to their consciousness - well.. at least it would in mind. Japanese men are generally dissuaded from 'flirting' in public - especially in an office situation. In fact, it use to be true that inter-office affairs and romantic relationships were so frowned upon that a worker risked getting transferred or - in the worse case - fired for dating a co-worker. It really is much less true nowadays because of the changes occurring in the society and in the economy. However, to some extent interoffice romance is discouraged. In that kind of environment, young men (ages 22- 35) before marriage didn't have many avenues for sexual or romantic release -except Japanese anime and pornography, and the nightly jerk-off once they crawled in to bed after midnight when they got home from a couple of 'mandatory' rounds a the local pub with the office gang - that often included their immediate superior (who was bucking for promotion or for leverage to support his pet projects).

The trips to the onsen (hot spring resorts) and the pub crawls after working later are rather like R & R for the troops in an army that's on dangerous duty. This was (and still is in some cases) the Civilian Military - (Japan Incorportated) because that was exactly how the typical Japanese factory or company used to operate. The new ones were the recruits -- called upon to have to endure all kinds of hardships (workign 12-16 hour days for example was expected), so these 'trips' were probably a natural way to help relieve a lot of stress.. some of it under the belt line - so to speak.
There is no doubt in my mind that many a young company employee (male or perhaps more so the females) was 'defrocked' while on one of these onsen excursions organized by his (her) company or social group.
The situation has ameliorated to some extent. It is not easy to determine how much though. Japan still has the highest rates of suicide of any industrialized (first world) nation, and the numbers continue to swell. Over 30,000 per year end their lives and by estimates, nearly 4 times as many try to do so.

Japanese has a massive social networking infrastructure long, long before the days of the Internet - or Facebook. I could write a book on this and related topics... but - in reality - much of it is coming to an end. Today's young people do not want to participate to the same degree as before. The number of 'freeters' - young people who refuse to get a full-time job, who often still live at home on their parents' dime, and are content with having little money - but lots of freedom and tons of free time to work part-time at as many as 3 jobs, quit when they get tired of one, go out with friends to sing karaoke or drink or just hang out, and play PS3 games or windowshop all night long.

If you are going to be in Honolulu for Xmas Weekend (Dec 24-28) (or can be then or shortly afterward, such as New Year's or later,) then make plans to attend one or several of the CMNM Weekend Festa from Christmas Day until Monday, December 28, 2009. (Other events from Dec 31 - January 9) may be possible- but we'll start off with Xmas).

Who can join: Legal adults (21 or older for most events).
Single males, couples or groups are invited to participate. Women are not barred from attending, but this IS a male - mostly gay or homosexual lifestyle - although some married couples (M/F) could possibly find it very stimulating.

Who will be there: Since it's just getting organized now (mid Sept), there's a good chance we'll have a dozen (or perhaps much more) men attending the private CMNM events. Costs to attend: There is a minimum fee to participate (for each fee event) since setting up even one event will incur some costs. However, the aim is to keep costs to a minimum by sharing and not doing anything extravagant. A couple of events are virtually free because you pay for your own drinks/food or you bring you own everything (outdoor excurions / sightseeing).
You will need to pay your own participation in the scheduled private CMNM Party and Role-Playing events by check or credit card (using PayPal). A refunded reservation / security deposit is required to hold your place as a participant. The amount of this deposit depends on the number of events you have selected to attend.
Cancellations after 12/10/2009 are possible, but there may well be a sizable penalty for withdrawal from attendance because booking for venues, dancers, performances, and services will already have been finalized by then .

BEHAVIOR: Obey the rules.
The CMNM Festa Weekened (in Waikiki ) is one of the Clothed Male / Naked Male (CmNm) series of events held and planned throughout the world. Some of these events are in public and some are private homes. You do not have license or permission to break existing laws, or to cause physical harm or psychological hurt to any person. This is not a sex orgy or an invitation to a drunken brawl. Participants are expected to behave as guests would act in someone's private home, or in attendance at semi-private party (in a hotel, bar, or restaurant.

Sexual or Erotic Behavior: Some participants in CMNM activities may not comfortable with explicit or overt sexual acts (particularly in the company of people they do not know), so you are expected to respect the wishes for propriety and rights the privacy and personal preferences of all who attend. While touching or fondling others would need that person's consent; removing your own clothes, masturbating, kissing are left to the individuals involved. You should indicate at the onset whether you are mainly a CM (clothed male), NM (naked male) or if you would prefer to have both roles. Some events (or parts thereof) will not allow any sexual or overly affectionte behavior that involve physically touching genitals or engaging in overt sex (because of the public or commerical location).

However, there will be events that do allow such behaviors. The limits and expectations for dress/undress and what forms of behavior (sexual or not) allowed (or when) will be clearly stated in the invitation/announcement to each event.

The events will be structured in such a way that hopefully all preferences for CMNM stimulation can be accommodated. However, this assumes that members attending are willing to participate - either by getting naked, or wearing clothes (or uniforms or special attire), and by actutally participating in the planned activities (games, role-plays, etc). Engaging in forced sexual acts or anything involving humiliation, abuse (name-calling or punishment) or bondage will require that a participant sign a release form (for liability purposes). This is NOT a BDSM event or a Fight Club. Although we realize that some men really want to be told what to do or to be made to strip. Pain or sexual violence will NOT be on the menu, so anyone interested in that should look elsewhere. Some paddling, spanking or light bondage is allowed as long as no one is made to suffer physical or psychological abuse, and they have stated their willingness to participate in those activities.

Overt sexual behavior (involving unclothed bodies, erections or penetration (oral/anal) in public places is not allowed. It is illegal in the State of Hawaii. Such behavior can take place in the privacy of a home or rented hotel room as long as it is mutually consensual.

Drugs/PNP: No illegal or narcotic drugs or the excessive consumption of alcohol (also a drug) will be tolerated.

CMNM Festa EVENTS:
The events are primarily for people staying over Xmas weekend in Honolulu, some in Waikiki or around the island of Oahu.

There may be other related events or planned excursions during the week of Dec 28-January 2 either also in Honolulu (or Oahu), but possibly on Maui, Kauai, and the Big Island, too.

What type of events: CMNM Festa Welcome Pool Party (at a private home - clothing optional - of course), a Naughty Santa Costume and Role-Play in a penthouse suite of a Waikiki Hotel, a sleepover (with clothed and naked males in attendance), male strippers and uniformed hosts will be in attendance at several of the events. Beside this villa, I have also looked into renting a 3-bedroom penthouse suite ($250 per night), a similar 2-bedroom condo (1200 sq ft) with large lanai, and a lush 4 bedroom mansion for $1200 a night).
Of course, something far less fancy will probably be the only thing we can get.

Some (of us) are really in to it.. and seek out such situations whenever possible - of course, it's a gay thing for many of us.

By the way, it is NOT ONLY about homosexual attraction. I could go on and on... but men need (and enjoy) using nudity between themselves and in groups of men (like sports teams, fraternity, army/military, clics and groups of buddies, while in temporary all male situations, such as camping, scouting, etc) and have done it since the beginning of societies... (I'm not talking physical desire or lust between men) to express friendship, belonging to a group, male affection and camaraderie, and dependence/interdependence, control/authority, loyal, leadership, bravura/machismo, and platonic or brotherly love.




I think almost every guy has some times (or even a lot) when he wants to see them naked or be seen naked by his buddies. It's part of identifying with being a man. We've had this discussion in bits and pieces many times on this forum before.
When you absolutely 'need' to be naked or be the clothed guy around naked ones (for various reasons - different for every person) then you are said to be into CMNM or have it as a fetish (if you need it to get off).

I've gone forward (evolved?) in exploring CMNM in myself, and also socially. I have set up many online CmNm groups, and have been trying to organize off-line real CMNM events, meet-ups, parties, etc.

Getting Freeballing and Flashing Confused?

Something that is super cool for me is freeballing AND some peekboo flashing at the same time. One thing about thie Freeballing.com site/group is that I don't think we are ever going to resolve the controversy/confusion about what is just plain freeballing and what is flashing/exposing/exhibitionism.. but it's not really necessary to make that divide clear.. we should be celebrating what makes us more alike than different. There is something very hot about guys in boards shorts, especially those without shirts and who are clearly freeballing. When they are confident, proud of their bodies -- not afraid to show of their assets -- they are at the most masculine. I don't think you'd need to be gay to find such guys attractive -- at least you'd want to hang out with cool guys like that.

Is freeballing for me a type of more or less 'innocent' flashing -- like the way a woman might show cleavage or wear a mini-skirt and high heels?
I have my own way to freeball and enjoy a bit of peekaboo flashing. My cargo pants and a pair of shorts have a short belt with clip buckle across the front that can be adjusted so I can control how much they sag without falling off. Walking the dog is where I do most of my freeball showing off. Most mornings I head out the door at 7:00am with my pet on a leash in these see-thru sports shorts. Idolizing Masculinity through Freeballing
Take guys in the military, for instance -- there must be a great feeling about the camaraderie of being together and facing the possibility of danger/risk of war.. surely that brings guys to share a lot and want to share the same .. so I imagine soldiers and sailors talk about wearing underwear or not, and a lot of cool stuff. I found this collage on the net and while we can't be sure of their freeballing, it sure looks like they are enjoying being close -- freeballing together under those shorts would make them feel even closer.

Seeing friends bathe or your buddies changing into and out of athletic gear without worrying about who was looking or being ashamed of showing off their bodies (genitals are just one part of our bodies -- so why do they get such a bad rap ?). There are not enough models in our societies --especially the US -- but I think there are some other cultures where friends being nude together is not such a big deal and gives nobody any grief -- nor do they suffer any. If this situation were in Europe -- these guys who swim together might very be naked and enjoying it all the same.

Freeballing crosses lifestyle, and gender orientation barriers

Freeballing may remind us of the tension / difference between gay and straight but it is something that brings us together more than it separates.
The interaction on the discussion threads illustrates something I really love about freeballing.com -- I find that freeballing.com is one of the few sites on the Internet as a 'virtual community' and may also be one of the few actual 'communities' where men of all ages, gender preferences and persuasions (including moral and religious) freely mix and interact -- where, for the most part, there is little moralizing or discrimination one way or another.
But again, it may have more to do with how you perceive yourself and your own identity (sexual and beyond). While it may not be readily obvious, what appears to be "conflicts" between members are for the most part handled in a fairly mature and progressive manner.
The real nature of human gender identity and the complexities of male sexuality all come into play here. But no one is blasting away with "I hate faggots" or accusing straight men of being anything else just because we all freeball or show off our sexuality or bond with the people with whom we have a strong affection. I know I'm intellectualizing -- so let me try to make it less academic but still get my point across -- if I can. Freeballing is an act of freeing yourself (at least from one point of view that sounds simplistic -- however, it may be a lot more and a more significant kind of self-liberating act. I think one of the reasons it is considered an alternative practice is because it represents also freeing oneself from the unnatural boundaries forced upon us about our sexual/emotional identities as men in society that is rapidly evolving. By all rights, somehotwink and hungteenfb have NO obligation to try to defend their relationships with their cousins (or younger friends or whomever). I am glad that they do and can -- that is one of the values of this discussion board. I think we should all listen to what people are saying (believe me - it is hard to write in a few sentences enough to explain), and not try to interpret what they are not saying.

Cross-cultural Perspective on Freeballing

I wonder how many other national costumes or traditional clothes allow for freeballing?
I've spent a lot of time in Japan and a few other countries where the national costume -- kimono or yukata (light summer informal kimono with fundoshi (loin cloth)) (at least it remains one of the traditional ways that some people dress --especialy for festivals or typical Japanese cultural events) does make freeballing sort of accepted.
As I said in an earlier post (Scottish singer in a kilt), I wonder how many national / native or traditional costumes make it easy (or not) to freeball and perhaps to catch a glimpse. We've seen that many guys wearing kilts do not have anything on underneath.

I have lived at times in Japan and still have strong connections to it. I find the kimono and in particular the yukata give a great opportunity to freeball. The traditional kimono, which is really as formal nowadays as a tuxedo and not worn very often at all, does not work out very well for freeballing -- mainly because it is worn for ceremonial events and people are not likely to move around much. The kimono is also worn tightly bound and can have several undergarments and belts (obi) so that it is not likely to come open. Damn, it must even be difficult to take a leak or squat to use the bathroom. However, the yukata is quite a bit different. It is a casual summer kimono-like one piece outfit -- typically worn for festivals and as night wear / indoor wear at hotsprings resorts and fine hotels.

Traditionally, Japanese men (and there are some people who do still) wear the yukata and its shorter version (the happi coat) as casual wear -- although mostly it is only during the summer and fall festivals, but a few for daily wear especially during the hot humid summer season. Under the yukata -- and sometimes ONLY without even the yukata-- is worn the traditional Japanese loincloth called the "fundoshi." It is not exactly underwear because it can be worn as swimwear or beach wear, as festival gear, and as an undergarment for a yukata (or kimono). Normally, only men wear a fundoshi, but some guys think it is very sexy for women to wear them .. so you sometimes see women in porno wearing a fundoshi.

Fundoshi is not really about freeballing -- it is a wrap that curls up from behind and under and can even tightly bind your balls, but it certainly does not leave much to the imagination once in place. There are a couple of styles - -the one for festivals is often twisted into a knotty rope like a thong and rides up the crack of your ass. Other style leave a hanging cover of the front so it's a bit hard to see the guy's encased mound of cock and balls, but this flying droop moves and floats around so you do get a view sometimes.

I'm not Japanese and don't have much chance to wear a yukata or fundoshi, but I have an acquaintance in Japan who has been after me to try them. Perhaps he is just trying to be nice by introducing me to traditional Japanese culture -- Japanese are not very big on evangelical Buddhism (although I hear it does exist). On a recent trip to Tokyo, he insisted on measuring me for a yukata and told me he would have onr made for me and then show me how to wear it and we would go to a fireworks festival wearing a yukata. He first had me pull off my trousers and then he measured about my waist and hips while I standing there in a bare of almost mesh semi see-thru boxers. There are a few different types of 'fundoshi' style (Japanese loincloths). I guess you might say they are more like "freebutting" instead of freeballing, but what the hell, I think they look pretty cool. This photo above shows a guy's full body tatoo (irezumi) -- still quite popular with a certain segment of the Japanese -- it was strongly associated with gangsters (yakuza) but less so nowadays. Notice the twisted rope effect in the crack of his fundoshi -- wonder what that feels like -- maybe it helps keeps his semi-hard so that the spectators can enjoy the festival "show" even more. You can see different lengths of "happi" coats in this pic-- so the fundoshi is not really meant to be covered up -- although it can serve as underwear -- it is more like a 400 year old Japanese Speedo bikini or gym shorts.

Finding pics of freeballing
I wish it were easy to tell you where to find photos of men in uniform. While there are some sites devoted to sexual activities of military men - I don't actually really collect those and won't be posting them here - -since that's not what this site is about. I don't know of any one source that would have so many photos of men in uniform (who are freeballing) - unless you are willing to pay to join (which I am not).
I found these in various places: Yahoo groups, also just by searching Google images, others were mixed in with some other photos -- like someone's private gallery on their personal web page. Justusboys.com allows members to keep up to hundreds of photos to share with others (a free service). You sometimes run across a few in the amateurs self-postings or discussion boards, such as dudesnude.com

It took a bit of searching and also over an extended period of time.
What I typically do is to save photos I run across on the net by category (or even in multiples categories - like a red head, military guy in uniform who is freeballing (or exposing). I have different folders for main categories and then make sub-folders. I tend to like photos that are realisitic with guys who are genuinely engaged in whatever they're doing -- whether freeballing while shopping or strolling through town or goofing off in the lockerroom, or pulling some antics -- like mooning at a frat party, etc. I also tend to get stimulated by one (or two) certain categories so I'll look for and save those types of photos for a while -- that's what's happened recently with uniforms and guys in boardshorts. Good time at Osaka's Largest Gay Baths

I visited Osaka this weekend, and went to Hokuokan (the huge gay baths and inn there) for the first time. It was hopping with all types of men...Asian men, grandpops, and twinks made up 98%. I fit in somewhere. I think it makes me a whole lot more exhibitionist in many ways because of the fact that I am a member of an extreme racial/ethnic minority in Japan. At least in the baths, everyone's there to get off basically so you don't have to 'play games' unless you're particularly picky.

It was a nice time in Osaka. It's a fun city with a lot to do and see, and a vibe that is very different from Tokyo. I'm sure I'll find another excuse to come again (literally) soon.

But search no longer, my friends and naked outdoor recreationalists, the Scenic Boys are on the trail again for Spring - Summer 2009. The Boys are back -- and in all their glory -- so I cannot wait for what's in store this season. (as written back in April 2009, and revised now at the end of Sept 2009.)

The excursions are immersed among some truly glorious natural landscapes which balance - even overshadow the masculine physical beauty of their bare subjects - mostly each other, but occasionally a naked friend or two, who is accompanying them. The nudity isn't even highlighted in either their blogs or videos - so they make it a non-issue. The two scenic lover boys habitually go to places where the spatial perspective, remote or interesting geography, varied terrain, splendid timing, and often gorgeous weather invite all human visitors, who would be blessed to pass among such pristine natural splendor, who could not resist the unbridled desire to remove all clothing and be exposed to the audacious beauty of Mother Earth and Father Sky. It is going natural (au naturel) in the ultimate sense of the word: naturist, naturalist, and Earth-protecting, and respecting eco-nudist, seen in his finest form and his own element.

It helps (terrifically - LOL) that the Scenic Boys are both rather nice looking or 'scenic' themselves. No slouchy couch potatoes with too much Seattle Java under their belts here, and Ugly Fuzzy and Dust_monkee - in their alternate persona on Flickr - are very easy on the old eye-balls, not to put too crass of a spin on admiring their earthly delights and heavenly treasured trails and tails.

Dusty and Garet (known to me as Gareath -(as if from an ancient Gaelic myth), leaving modesty or the lack of it aside for a moment, don't mind sharing their love for each other, and the simple joys of friendship and life's little pleasures, or their equally brilliant admiration for the bountiful riches that Mother Nature offers to all who will partake of it through hiking, camping, boating trips not very far from home. They lead us on short weekend visit - how to just enjoy living and breathing deeply outdoors - in mainly the North West of the US.

Don't get me wrong or get me righteous.... these are not porn stars or blatant exhibitionists... not that I have anything against those two categories of men either. But they are just two very sweet, emotionally mature (although they might not admit it), really-down-to-earth, thoughtful and sexy guy-next-door dudes that you can't help but fall in love with (OK.. I admit it). I am smitten - it's true. But I will love getting over that because I know they have a greater love that supercedes any other desire or attraction: The Love of Mother Earth.

What more could modern, queer or straight, Republican or Democrat America ask for? Take a gander and you'll be back regularly for more outdoor adventures with the two handsome trekkers and the consort of friends in local and faraway places.

I cannot wait for them to visit Hawaii. Hopefully it will be at a time when a few of their fans (and friends) can join them. Whenever we go round to John's flat it's just be a matter of time before he would find some excuse to start play wresting with at least one of us.

Thanks, James, for these - excellent research! I remember moving from one gym with its long line of gang showers to another gym that had pole showers. I didn't like the pole variety overmuch. The pole shower is still used in places like public beaches, where close contact isn't expected to cause a problem. You can find the 'Bradley' type showers along public beaches in Hawaii and Spain (I'm sure many other places, too).

What's nice about them is that you can take a shower in public and stand close to some guys while each of you is occupied with the getting clean without appearing to leer or be inappropriately 'interested.' It's fun when a guy pulls his swimsuit out from his body (or even down somewhat) to help wash out the sand. You can sometimes get a glimpse of his pubic hair, ass or even more.

Clothed Male (in uniform) - Naked male(s) - potentially (also sexual partners or who share a sexual or psycho-sexual encounter):

• Firefighter - victims/homeowners, the person he rescues
• Police and Law Enforcement -- either the criminal or the victims
• Sailor (other sailors, superior officer (clothed / sailor (squab) - naked) or merman, pirates, fisherman (whom he helps or rescues), swimmers, boatmen,
• Pilot - stewards, flight attendants, his first office, navigators, passengers
• Doctor - patients, athletes, or recruits needing 'inspecting' physically
• Military - the enemy, the occupied, the native population, subordinates, or superior officers, trainers / trainees
• Construction worker - the Boss, Foreman, fellow workers, employers, person who is hiring or paying the job (landlord / property owner)
• UPS or delivery worker (who encounter the guy in an office or homeowner)
• Home repair worker, plumber, electrician, Cable TV installer, telephone company employee, etc (same as above)

In almost every case, it's not simply the existence of the clothed (uniformed) male that is only important, but it's the juxtaposition - whether in our minds or imaginations - or in actually reality - like a naked suspect being cleaned up before jail incarceration (Rambo: First Blood - Sylvester Stallone, for example) that sparks out sexual excitement when we see a man in uniform.


Obviously, it is more complex than that. There are other social constructs of masculinity, real and symbolic power, authority, discipline, allegiance, decorum, camaraderie, etc...along with the purely physical ones of appearance. But the phenomenon of CMNM as a strong basic element in male homo-eroticism cannot be overlooked. It's seems obvious upon deep reflection but we tend to focus on one tall tree instead of understanding the forest or more important the earth (dirt), air (wind), rain, and sunshine that are not so perfectly obvious but equally vital to the tree's very existence and to its very definition (meaning).

I have also become intrigued to find out what iPhone apps for gay connections will work, and how well they do so.

FFM (Free Foto Messenger) might become popular. Reviews, however, are ranting badly on the March update version; but so far so good for those who had downloaded a previous version. I often test iphone apps for several different markets and also different regions/areas of the globe. BREAKING NEWS: A new update of FFM was released April 21, 2010 - it seems to have fixed the problems mentioned earlier. Try it out for yourself.

About FFM,
Since you have to 'know' people already to actually chat - it's not so great for 'cruising' or casual hookups.
There are other ones where that works well listed below. Normally in a good Iphone app, you can see the person's profile (m/f, age, location (general or specific), time online (or last time), etc.
Some allow choice of sexual preferences:
Select a gay apps or a mixed one and then filter for gay men) to find local (or global) guys, and then start a chat - if things match up).

Sooshi could have great potential because you can also search in a specific area by 'putting' yourself at a remote location. So if you are going to be traveling soon, you can hunt for guys ahead (as you can do here on Dudesnude), but they can be online and ready to chat. Unfortunately, almost all but Grindr don't have many locals members - who are active and online.

I've also used Grindr (probably the best iPhone app for hookup / making local gay friends) as many people have, but there are several others (see below).
Wouldn't it be great if GWIP (Guys With Iphones, the site) and Grindr could be combined? Wow!

Take a look at these other apps when you have time:

Purpll (prone to problems with finding locations outside US, allows private pics, also has a website for PC access), PinkMap (mainly for Europe but some global users too, no nudity allowed, has a website too), Gd Beta (nice format, allows 3 public and 2 private pics, local guys online), SpeedDate (requires subscription for any real info - irritating), Skout (recently greatly improved to compete with Grindr), Whoshere, Sooshi, Brightkite, Twitxr, ( both are location-based Twitter spinoffs, updates can broadcast in local area - but u risk getting 'outed' or harassed if public messages are too sexy or pornog. ) Knocking Video (already popular here on DN), Gaydar Light (doesn't work on my iPhone - other?), Aka-aki (gay & straight, based in Europe - slowly growing, but has some problems, cool 'sticker' system to form like-minded groups), Facetime2 (crashes often),
I'm still trying out Dokami, and Foursquare for gay connections and usability.

NOTE* Some of the above social networking apps are NOT for gay men only. You have to add your gender pref or search/filter for gay men/age etc to locate guys. Some do or don't have push notifications, although they all have free versions.

It's for testing purposes - I'm not trying to hookup (at least at the moment). Besides, I live too far away now.

PS. After further testing of FFM, I have found that while it crashed as predicted at first, a new update came out April 22 which seems to work just fine now.

As you have no doubt heard, there are now Women-Only train cars on the some of the public and private train and subway lines in Tokyo - it's an attempt to prevent sexual groping (men abusing women or teenage girls). They operate these cars mainly during peak rush hours. Yet, I wonder if the authorities realize that they may be encouraging male-male groping behavior by reducing the ratio of women on train cars.

When I lived there and travel to Tokyo, I found it somewhat erotic - although more frequently just plain frustrating and irritating -- to be crammed together like sardines in a train car. Especially during morning rush hour, there is invariably a time when your body or someone else's in pressed up against your front, back or side. Most people try to appear oblivious and just pull in their appendages, and bear it (not bare it), but there seem to be quite a few men (both str8 and otherwise) who seem to enjoy it.

There is an urban myth among gays in Tokyo that men who are seeking mutual accidental encounters (rubbing, groping or even stealthful mutual masturbation) will congregate in the last car (or is the first car). Once I saw a tall foreign guy in overall apparently getting a hand job from a shorter Japanese man (last car on the Chuo (Orange) train.

Finally, there used to be a wild event on or near Halloween (Oct 31) on the Yamate train (green circle line around central Tokyo). Each year, hundreds of people in costumes would all meet at Shinjuku station at 9:00pm and then jump all together in the same train (literally filling up the cars like morning rush hour, then at the next stop, everyone would rush like man to change cars -- sort of like musical chairs. I participated once and ended up being videoed on the national television news (since the media decided to show up and film the event). The JR authorities did NOT appreciate it -- especially since some 'regular' passengers were bumped into or caused inconveniences (like not being able to get off the train).

There was also a lot of trash (beer cans, wigs, and pieces of costumes) left on the trains - because most everybody was drinking or already drunk by the time the wide train parade got going (typically on a Friday or Saturday night). One guy who I befriended while riding this mad Halloween train rush, was wearing nothing but a yukata (casual cotton kimono) and proceeded to show me that he had nothing on underneath it.
Male-Male Sex in Public Places
Japanese men are not completely bashful - while modest in daily life, they certainly are not adverse to getting their rocks off and men of all persuasions will sometimes have sex in public trysting spots -- called 'hatten basho.' These cruising areas are sometimes in posh locations or in department stores and shopping centers, at public parks, and at the local swimming pools and gyms or sports clubs.
