no snark, no irony: NO. i actually get a little annoyed with people who complain about how 'everything is superficial'. (no offense, naughty... i generally like your posts (*8*))

are you bothered that people care about looks? i appreciate how sexy/beautiful/graceful/radiant/mysterious human beings can be. i love looking at people.

are you bothered by fashion? for some people, fashion is a form of artistic expression, no less valuable than poetry or music or visual art.

are you bothered about light-hearted or silly things? maybe some kind of music, or television, that you deem to 'insubstancial'? personally, i like to switch my brain off sometimes and just watch tyra banks being batshit insane for an hour or so.

most of these things can be easily avoided anyway. switch the channel, dont hang out with people who bore you.

Looks don't last forever. If he's beautiful, and an asshole, one day when his looks start to fade you'll be stuck with and ugly asshole, and who needs that :lol:. It's what's inside that counts.

Its about the point where people get more opportunities from BS. And not just sexual/relationship opportunities. Career opportunities and advancements. It's about people caring about status symbols like what fucking car you drive (or if you're in a big city where people don't drive, which cell phone you use) as a measure of who you are as a person or where you've arrived in life. It's about when people see me and think "thug" but see a white guy dressed the same as me and think "well he's just a nice white boy trying to be down." 3) Double Standards

4) Racism

5) Prejudice

6) Status

7) Lies/Illusions/Deception/Dishonesty

8) Politics

Maybe you are trying to reconcile with the reality of what many people tend to value and how you are affected as an individual.

Ah, okay. That was going to be my next guess. You had the epiphany of how superficial humans are as a species. Well, despite our intelligence, we're still animals at the core. Even many of the more evolved and complex of humans can still be...petty, superficial, and/or artificial.
 
I kind of know what you mean. I'm pretty overly genuine, honest to a fault, and extremely down to earth, but I can seem to be naive and boring and untalkative, so I'm easily ignored.

It depends who you're talking to - I can often 'sense' if a person either likes or dislikes my personality just by their manner and body language and choice of words. And I always find it extremely difficult to put on an act or pretense with people.

And for what it's worth NaughtyArousal, you've always struck me as an interesting and genuine guy.
 
im sorry if you didnt get the job you wanted, because of your looks or your ethnicity or your appearance. if thats what sparked this rant. there is no excuse for bs like that and yeah, life sucks sometimes.

its just that if you say 'things are superficial!', thats a very broad thing to say, and comes close to 'generally complaining about nothing in particular'. which happens to be one of my pet peeves.
 
Almost everything is mere trivia in the 'cosmic scheme of things'; and the truly meaningful things in life are far too important to ever take seriously. #-o
