Super Blast From The Past - Pass the Dutchie

I found this as well. Interesting:

"Pass the Dutchie" was a song recorded in by the British group Musical Youth from the album "The Youth of Today" (1982). It was a major hit, holding the number one position on the UK singles charts for three weeks in September 1982.

It was a cover version of the song "Pass the Kouchie" by The Mighty Diamonds, written by Leroy Sibbles and Jackie Mittoo. The song was changed from "Kouchie," a slang term for marijuana, to "Dutchie" due to the age of the artists and their target audience. A "Dutchie" was slang for the cooking pot used by poor Jamaicans to prepare stews and rice. More recently the term "dutchie" refers to marijuana rolled in a cigar paper (specifically "Dutch Master" cigars, hence the name "dutchie".)

GSDX, are they singing about smoking marijuana?

The original song was about drugs, but it was cleaned up for the kids to sing:

I hated the song and the kids when it came out.........sorry.

No need to apologise. Their music certainly wasn't to everyone's taste. But thank you for not insulting either them or those who fondly remember and enjoy the song. (*8*)

this shit is so good... I seriously can't stop listening hahahaha

You know, I'm almost sorry to say that I've always loved that sort of music.

Thanks, gsdx!

It has a rhythm to it, doesn't it? You can't help it. Your body just starts to move to it without you even noticing and you suddenly realize you're feeling happy.

^ You're right. I never understood why this kind of music wasn't more popular.
