Super Bowl XLII - New England Patriots vs. New Yor

Re: Super Bowl XLII - New England Patriots vs. New

Ah I can see it now, five minutes into the first quarter, Brady pushes down on his plant foot and cries like a little girl. "OWW my foot"

Oh ok, that was evil, but what can I say but

GO GIANTS!

Re: Super Bowl XLII - New England Patriots vs. New

So GREAVES I take-it there aren't any commercial interuptions during your SNOOZE-FEST called the WORLD CUP!! I doubt that!! Got to have something to keep yourself awake!!

Re: Super Bowl XLII - New England Patriots vs. New

have had season's tix in the family forever - my grandparents then my parents - my mom has them

she got chosen in the lottery

approx 5,000 out of 60,000+ got the nod

so i picked them up last nite

gonna fly to LA and maybe stay in Palm Springs (1/2 way between LA and Phoenix) - no hotels in Phoenix to be had

Well it seems there are a few beds available at a local monastery... but it may not be your style (I wouldn't stay there).

As greaves' post in this thread has been deleted - censorship in Sports Forum? - the point being made was that American Football is so totally commercialised as to be meaningless as a sport.

Let's just explain it again for our American cousins:

Tonite there is a Premiership game on TV. Adverts will precede it. Adverts will feature at half-time. And adverts will be shown at the end of the game.

But NO adverts will be shown during the game. You will see 2 periods of 45+ minutes of football.

Perhaps Americans are so addicted to adverts they can't go 45 mins without seeing one?

Any thoughts?

For the record I'm not the one who made your original post in this thread disappear, but since you've edited and reposted I happed to agree with you...as an American.

Most Americans who watch the "Super Bowl," where a victor will be declared "World Champions", don't even follow the Sport.

It's a chance for the hosting city to reap millions of dollars in tourist revenue, a venue to present the best advertising idea/commercials, and in some cases a second chance for an actor/singer's chareer that might be going down the tubes (but not on YouTube, unless carefully orchestrated) during half-time.

Super Bowl XLII is to American Football what Christmas is to Target or Wal*Mart.

Good Job, and great description! :D

I heard that one of my fellow mods fell on his head and required staples.

:(

Re: Super Bowl XLII - New England Patriots vs. New

While as an AMERICAN I agree with your comments reguarding the how commercialized the SUPER BOWL has become the same thing can be said of the WORLD CUP or a RUGBY CHAMPIONSHIP after all if there wasn't any money to be made these events wouldn't exist. Even the OLYMPICS are expected to turn a profit though sometimes they don't.

I hope the Giants burst that 18-0 bubble tomorrow night.I respect New England, yet loathe them as I loathe the Red Sox....:badgrin:Though for some reason, the Celtics winning doesn't bother me much:confused:.Ah,I figured it out....they just haven't been relevant in so long ,I kinda give them a pass.;)

Re: Super Bowl XLII - New England Patriots vs. New

If the Patriots win, the discussion starts as to whether they are the greatest team ever. If they lose, they may be regarded as one of the game's biggest busts.

Re: Super Bowl XLII - New England Patriots vs. New

New England-34

N.Y. Giants-16

I was SO happy last night after being a bit deflated when Tom Brady got the lead back with that touchdown. It was Eli's "Great Escape" which lead to the great catch by Tyree..I couldn't believe it when Eli somehow maneuvered out of a sure takedown. And the throw and reception!!!:gogirl:When Eli hit Burress for the go-ahead touchdown,I was thinking what so many were,"What a damn great Super Bowl"!(!)As much as I respect the class and talent of Tom Brady and the Patriots,Them being from New England and the cheating taint of their bid for an undefeated seasonmake them anathema to me,and I felt so great for the whole Giants organization, their fans and the Manning family(two sons of a quaterback who never played on any really good teams n ow both are Super Bowl champs, and great guys they are as well)!

:D..|

These two pictures say it all. (!)

Lessons Patriots learned....it really IS hard to go undefeated in a season!:pAnd the cheaters got fucked real good in the end!:gogirl::twisted::badgrin:Held to 14 points.....it seems Plaxico Burress was being GENEROUS with his bold prediction which was scoffed by the Patriots and their fans of being held to 17 points in the game....Giants defense(whom Tom Brady got to know really well last night) only giving up 14 points, all that pressure on Brady..one word sums perfectly up everything...SWEET!:gogirl:

Re: Super Bowl XLII - New England Patriots vs. New

Just got back boys ............

great trip

great game

great everything

sat in section 124 - giants and pats fans

lemme tell ya - giants fans rule - by game end, like old friends - with high fives, hugs plus

Eli was solid - and in that last drive, spectacular - avoiding the sack (3x) throwing the jump ball to tyree - holy shit

4th and 1

steve smith gets 11 on 3rd and 10

toomer with a big catch scooping it out of the dirt

what can u say about the D?

sacked Brady 5x - and busted him up the whole game

Coughlin outcoached Belichick

Giants deserved it - Pats couldn't keep us off Brady - and could not make the big play defensively

had a great time

Go Giants!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Super Bowl XLII - New England Patriots vs. New

How about that fool Belichick walking out of the game with 1 second on the clock and his team still on the field. Talk about low class.

To the Manning boys with love and admiration.

Re: Super Bowl XLII - New England Patriots vs. New

Chance, damn you got to get to see one of the greatest games ever!:cry:Great for you getting to see such an unforgettable classic and glad you had a blast!..|How did you get them, business or friends...so impossible to come up with tickets for any Super Bowl, never mind this one!

Yep,sonny....Belichek is a jerk and just a big reason to despise the Patriots. But it is damn hard to take anything away from Tom Brady, who was classy as usual in defeat, and almost seized victory from the jaws of defeat.Eli was tremendous going to a diverse group of receivers...but incredible Giants defense, who Tom Brady really got to know almost intimately, made the game.
