Survey : human origins

I have a theory that in the distant future we will all evolve to look the the grey aliens from Close Encounters of the third kind.

Humans are animals.

What I dislike most about the 'divinely-created-in-our-present-form' narrative is the wedge it drives between us and other species.

When in fact, our similarities are more remarkable than our differences.

It's an unnecessary kind of pride which lifts the divine up and out of our biological family.

If there is something about our own human nature which is worth respect, there is something about animals' natures which is also worth respect.

I believe all life started in the oceans as amino acids and eventually moved to the land. Over many millions of years evolution continued and we evolved into what we are today. If you read Origin of Species by Charles Darwin (most boring book on earth but certainly thorough and well researched) it explains evolution very well.

I was going to quote, but there are too many people I want to be talking to. So. I never said that it was a Higher Power who watches us. In Hinduism, Brahma only created the Earth and does not watch over the people. If you want to call a higher power absent, perhaps you do not wish to have complete free will. That sounds a bit blaming. I am not judging, not am I being rude, I am explaining. Honestly, if we did evolve according to that chat, what caused it to stop? I believe there is a lot we could be needing for evolution for many reasons. Golbal warming being one of them. Shouldnt we be mutants by now? There are cracks in evolution theory. I am not saying thingsnever evolve, though. Fish and frogs have been known to do so. However, I just cannot believe for one second everything is random. Everything happens for a reason.

Evolution has not stopped. It happens gradually over time and has been observed in laboratory settings with bacteria. There are no cracks in the science of evolution. Just because you can't or don't want to understand evolution does not make it invalid.

I understand why one would say that evolution for humans has stopped, but it's just that we can't see it happening. Additionally it takes years and years for a species of our caliber to evolve. It's intriguing...because I think technology will greatly affect the evolutionary path humans take...I really wonder how it will play out.

If you're asking questions like "why has evolution stopped?", you honestly have no reason to be arguing about evolution. Anyone who studied evolution in middle school would know that evolution hasn't stopped. Oy, Americans...

Anybody stop to consider that modern science and medicine

may have had a delaying factor on our evolutionary pattern?

Either 'Mother Nature' planned for this or she was blind-sided

and hasn't recovered yet.

It's quite a bit depressing.

I recently looked at the Wikipedia page regarding the Universe, and there was a slowly increasing increment of pictures that show our place in the universe. It starts with the zoom in, then a bit further, to the point where the Milky Way is nothing more than a white spec on a big black background.

To believe that we can even comprehend our origin is insane.

But, what I can say, is that anyone who believes there is a higher power SPECIFICALLY WATCHING our race and creating our race, is far more insane.

The universe is just too expansive and grand for an explanation to be that simple. And if it does boil down to God, it leaves the question of if we're so special, why create the rest?

Give me two large rocks collide into each other sparking life over God any day.

My favorite bumper sticker ask a simple question: " Do explosions cause libraries?"

That said I agree we evolved. In fact i think man is much more connected to other men than we realize and so we interpret such commonality of thought as a higher being. but that is way off topic.

We are much more genetically based in having evolved from the sea from recent research.

Subcutaneous fat in our bodies is more readily found in sea life for insulation against cold waters.

Perhaps we are the result of a highly intelligent amphibious creature getting it on with a prehistoric ape?

I am annoyed that schools still teach creation as science.

absolutely it has had some effect. many more people are being born with developmental problems and neurological defects at higher rates. autism for example. that is medical science allowing people to have children who were never meant to, people who are infertile.

another problem is our diet and our environment, that is contributing to a sicker future generation when people now are having children after being exposed to poison in our food and in the air their entire lifetime.

as far as evolution vs religion, it is settled science, yet religion acts as if its a science of its own when its a faith.

it is truly remarkable that humans exist, something we should be in awe of is nature as we are creations of it.

I am so sorry my science classes had more real facts to teach us and ways to figure out problems that actually matter. While this all is interesting, evolution and the big bang are not based in any hard facts at all. Not that I can call my belief a hard fact either, but I have felt my higher power help me out. I feel sorry for you all because you think that when you are dead you are dead. If I am ignorant to human evolution since we have come from monkey relitives, instead of just harping on me, perhaps you can lead me to where science says these changes happened. Oh my heck! That is such a wild idea.

Evolution by some post here is only viewed through biological and organic change in how a animal looks. We are always in a hurry and have no real understanding of how slow time is and when its rapid the results are often the demise of that animal.
Look for other clues in evolution of Homo Sapiens. You will find them. Once becoming bipedal and with a brain that grew much more developed, through biological course of time.
It was the discovery and use of fire and tools that elevated the species far from others of the Genus, and maybe there were 2 or 3 Homo species living at the at once. Not apes but others in our same class. Such as Neanderthals.
Certainly it is our brain over other animals that give us domain. Something that would be terrifying if the cockroach evolved similarly.
Having domain over our habitat is available through human evolution. If you can't understand the power of that quick evolutionary trait I don't understand. Not bound by water, desert, jungle, the poles, we master all environments, & maybe could extend this to evolve far beyond this planet itself. Sadly time is not on any plant or animals side for long term evolution to its fullest potential. Living things are not all that evolves, our planet does, as does the sun and universe. Often ending successful mutation which is never complete
It is more telling then the fact of a fading human appendix or that the nose is getting larger to cope with a polluted atmosphere.

If you want to watch some thing quick. Get a aquarium and check out the tadpole, from gilled aquatic to air breathing land animal for a simple idea of something wonderful.

I am afraid that my view will be unpopular with some of my closest friends.
Religion is an opiate for the masses. What cannot be explained is handed
off to a higher being, good bad or indifferent, it just isn't Joe Averages fault.
Since pre-historic time 'man' has always required a deity to worship, to adore
and or castigate depending on the circumstances.

Modern Religions came about when small groups of cleve,r greedy peoples all
gathered and presenting a united front started offeering advice to the masses.
i.e. How to Dress, eat, copulate ...even ritual scarification as proof of the
belief one holds for the omnipotent all knowing power that rules the existance
of 'mankind. They sarted out with tattoos and other physical ornamentation
to prove their faith...some even required such proofs as circumcision and so on.

The Religious groups all finally had a couple of things in common. They Commanded
those aforementioned masses and created pockets of untold wealth and demanded
obeisance and the worship of the worlds people.

Does anyone know of a major religion where the hierarchy does not abide in the lap
of luxury and rewrite their rules to suit the present situation. Anyone know a major
religion that is destitute at the highest levels of command?

No, evolution is an incontrovertible fact as observed in nature. Even our societies
are in a constant flux, evolving as the conditions both phhsical and mental demend.

This is only my personal opinion based on a life of observation...it is not submitted
as irrefutable fact. I continue to seek the eternal truths enveloped within our
universe. Come, join me in the thought process, it is a god given gift...right?

est hominum re vel a cosmicam iocum

Veering offtopic, but yes.

And if it does boil down to God, it leaves the question of if we're so special, why create the rest?

Because He likes it.

There's plenty of indication in the Bible that we're not the whole of the reason He created it all -- He delights in hills, mountains, gazelles, and everything else He made. According to the Bible, we're the pinnacle, not the sole cause.
