Survivor 23: South Pacific

Anticipatory bump for tonight's premiere!

I am tentatively excited for this season, even after the disaster that was Redemption Island. As long as Ozzy and Coach don't hog 90% of the show, I think this cast could be entertaining. At the very least, the premiere should be decent because it's going to be ninety minutes, and I don't think that any of the extended premieres (Amazon, Pearl Islands, Heroes vs. Villains) have failed to deliver.

It's also good news that this cast has seen Boston Rob dominate in RI, so they might be less willing to let returning players i.e. Ozzy (lol Coach) walk to the end.

As much as I really like Ozzy, I'm a bit tired of the returning players for a bit. Coach has been back and so has Ozzy. No need for this.

And although Russell's nephew is kinda hot, I'm VERY tired of the Russell Hantz element. I'm begging the producers - PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE stop with it....

OMG! I thought premiere week was next week.
(frantically runs to tv to tune it late. . .)

Brandon Hantz (Russell's nephew) freaking out over one of the pretty girls "flaunting" herself because he's all up with the God stuff.

Really, dude?

She was helping build the hut. So she wasn't in a Berka.

Can you not control your gonads?

Ask God to help you not stare at her with daggers and lust, perhaps.

Oh, wait, you're 19 and male, that's only natural. Stupid.

I'm enjoying this premiere and it just makes me wish every episode could be ninety minutes. That extra half hour is so sorely needed to get to actually learn about these people in a show that's become pre-occupied with idols and Redemption Island and challenges. :/

I was beyond glad that Mark was confirmed as gay in episode one. I just remember how Spencer only got to say he was gay in his boot episode, and he wasn't the stereotypical gay Survivor player either.

What is up with Oz? He acted (and looks) like he is Jesus Christ. Not in a religious way, but just in a "I'm God's gift to the world. . er. . island" way. I never thought out of the two alumni Survivors, that I would have ever found Coach more tolerable. But so far I do. And definitely on Oz's tribe in general that a few other people acted like snobs. Which is why the vote was surprising to me (but I am glad it went that way.)

Coach is definitely tolerable as long as you don't take him seriously. I did during Tocantins and absolutely HATED him. During Heroes vs. Villains, I didn't and I've actually come to enjoy him a lot. Philip from last season just started feeling like a pale imitation of Coach after awhile, featuring awkward racial allegations.

I still don't care for Coach Blows-too-much-into-the breeze.

I actually like Ozzie and always have. He obviously has a boner for the girls - look mate this is Survivor and not a Playgirl shoot.

Cochran is a funny little dude and I hope he is around for ahile but after that coming preview I think he is a detrement rather than an aid.

I liked the 1 1/2 hrs and enjoyed getting to know the players a little better than in the Hantz/Rob seasons.

He said he comes a new different from his uncle and yet he kept on saying, Russell this Russell that. Nobody should know my lil Hantz secret. It just so annoying.

Am I the only one who thinks the name "Papa Bear" is kinda weird. I will be like "NOOO" if someone called me Twinky Kid.

i'm hoping (really really hoping) that Hantz junior gets booted quickly. I really dislike people like that. (his religious crap)

BTW, it wouldn't be a big deal for people to know he's Russell's nephew other than the fact that his family has a LOT of money and it,s usually a factor in people's opinions.

From what i've seen so far, i like the rancher.. :)

WTF? Is the whole Hantz family nuttier than a truck load of pecans? Man oh man is Brandon got some serious issues with himself, with what he sees and perceives and he obviously is worried that he will either succumb to Mikayla or that he will rape her. I haven't seen someone that fucked up in a long time - or since I last saw his uncle Russell. But compared to Brandon Coach comes off as a sunny bright day.

Love this season this far and am still sorry they are afraid to show a dick in a pair of shorts while every woman's couchy is fair game.

This episode is why I wish this show had 90 minutes per week. They always try to introduce everyone in the premiere, but from episodes two to, like, seven, half the cast fades away because there's not enough time. My two faves so far, Mark and Dawn, being totally absent from this episode other than being portrayed as fodder for the Savai cool kids alliance did not make me happy AT ALL. :(

Brandon's out of his mind, but the seeds were already planted for that last week when he was complaining about Mikayla flaunting her body and then they cut to shots of her fully clothed, and followed it up with the "Brandon staring through the palm fronds" creeper scene.

Well... this season isn't AWFUL so far but I'm pretty sure that my interest took a dramatic hit after last night's boot. :/

Anyone check Hantz's basement lately? Does he have all the goodlooking girls stashed in a cupboard to keep him safe from his demons. The guy really needs a lock-up in a secure mental facility.

Are you talking papa Bear, slip. It was inevitable that he would go since he has not clicked so well, just like Cochran.

I so wanted Coach's team to lose so I could see if they would dare send Hantz out. The irrational behaviour from him is scarey.

Watching AR the other night I wished that there had been a 2 hour show so I could get to know the teams better. They have a good cast, I think.

I am enjoying this Survivor a lot.

I'm hoping Cochran can hold on. He's not an ass like most everyone else has been. Although Coach has been playing "honorably", huge improvement over his first time on the show.

Mark being voted out AND Semhar being eliminated from RI made for a dreadful episode. Semhar I can endure losing because droning on with poetry for an entire segment would only be funny so many times, but I still laughed at her pre-challenge recital.

Mark however was easily my absolute favorite this season for being an older gay bear from a non-stereotypical occupation and who wasn't a total caricature. I know that logically he was presented as in the minority but he had a really good episode 1 edit that lead me to believe that he'd be sticking around for awhile or something would come out of his alliance with Dawn, but... nope, and she even voted him out! The premiere LIED to me! :(

I'm going to be really mad if there's going to be a tribal swap to keep Cochran safe, too. (Nothing's known for sure but I think they're overdue for a tribe swap after RI was a disaster, so I wouldn't be surprised.) I mean I don't hate Cochran but to lose Mark and then for there to be a possible swap to save the other two outcasts would just make the burn that much worse.

ehh its back to the drawing board for me for who i want to win. i picked little hantz but his preeching shit is just too annoying

I was out and about today in NYC and there was a march down Broadway with women protesting men who complain about how they dress; men who can't take no for an answer and men who force themselves on women.

Seattlelove I cannot imagine anyone from the get-go wanting Hnatz to win anything. From the opening ep until this last one and the shit I read about his antics in his real life make him one of the most loathesome characters ever to be on Survivor. He is just the sludge under the sewer for me.

I don't have a fav to win at this point. Just hoping to get to know more about the people playing and their reactions to things going on.
