Survivor 27: Blood vs. Water

Yeah, Laura definitely had the chance to win her way into the finals. Just going off my own baseless hunches, she likely would have won the wobbly platform block challenge, but Ciera would be voted out still anyway, and then Tyson probably would have still won the final immunity challenge since he beat Monica, who is similar in build and challenge prowess to Laura, and then she would have just been Tina'd. Laura winning it all would have been amazing though. Tina was right too when she said she was a challenge away from tying Sandra (not really since Sandra wasn't a first boot on her second game, but...), too, so I'm glad that didn't happen.

LOL It's funny that bring up Crystal because Sucks is having a field day with the "Beauty, Brains and Brawn" thing because Crystal once said that she had all of those things, as well as "Blazing Speed."

When they hinted next season is B B B, I was guessing Boobs, Balls, and Buns.

Who knows what might have happened had Tyson not won the last 2 immunities. I doubt that Monica would have changed alliances as the other ladies would have screwed her. I'm just glad Tina didn't win. I was sad though about her son.

So did I. And I really hated that they all chose to pull at that poor Monica's frayed nerves when fucking GERVASE was sitting right there, if they wanted to take their frustrations out on a truly useless blowhard. I'm also disappointed in Laura M for not giving Monica her vote (though it seemed she was really vacillating there while voting).

It's a reflection of life. We all have criteria for how people get on our nerves and for this cast, Monica's brand of annoying behavior was less easier to tolerate than Gervase's. Sure he's obnoxious but good-natured person or not, Monica's penchant for the dramatic (and paranoia) would get under any hungry, sleep-deprived player's moreso than a guy who can be a jerk.

I was so sad when ciera got the boot !! but anyway !!

Tyson winning was predictable especially throughout the last episode.
The edit was so mean on monica !!! poor girl

Im kinda looking forward to next season as it's all newbies and Im kinda tired with returning players !!!

EW: What happens if Tina or Hayden make it into the finals? You think either of them beats you, especially with all the friends they made at Redemption Island?
TYSON: It would have been a lot closer. I don’t think I would have gotten zero votes, but I could have lost 5-4 or won 5-4. I think the clearest path to victory was through Gervase and Monica for me.

Is Tyson for real? Like, I LOATHE Tina as a winner but she would have had that shit locked down so hard if she won that last challenge. She'd have her daughter (duh). She and Aras were in a pre-show winner alliance and Tina never betrayed him. LAURA M. would have been campaigning her and this is the woman who singlehandedly turned the entire Samoa jury on to Natalie White. Hayden didn't want to vote for any of the final three we did get. Vytas didn't even vote for Tyson in the actual season.

She campaigned hard for Natalie to the other jury members in Ponderosa and, not to discredit any of the friendships Natalie had made with the Galu core, Laura also had major influence over the younger girls and Brett, who all voted for Natalie too.

That was an awful reunion show. Not sure why they invited Colton back, such a waste of space. And his bf Caleb trying to justify why he quit was such bullshit. They need to do away with final 3 and go back to 2. I don't think there has been one time where it was close that they would need 3 finalist.

As slip has already pointed out, it's not even a question that Tina would've won and become the second two-time winner after Sandra (which honestly would've been kinda awesome, if only to see Probst explode).

Laura M was a boss on her Samoa tribe, so respected and so loved that she only only helped Natalie win votes on the jury but she also clearly would've won herself, which is why Russell targeted her first. This is a perfect example of how different dynamics produce different personalities. Laura M's unpopularity with the Blood v Water crew does not mean she's annoying in general since she was clearly loved on Samoa.

It went as I expected, with Tyson winning. The jury's addressing of Monica reminded me of partly why writer Linda Holmes finds Survivor lately coming across as sexist. The line of questions and comments, with Monica, were like some therapy of "what is wrong with Monica?!" COME ON! Ciera and Hayden didn't persuade her that they made for a better choice than Gervase and Tyson.

Go back to when there were seven: Ciera fucked over Caleb, Katie, and Hayden. Come to think of this—she fucked over herself. Ciera wanted to play big. She just didn't know what that big meant: you have to make the right choice. And when she still had Caleb, Katie, and Hayden she copped an attitude when it was proposed to her they emerge as the final four and take out Tyson, Monica, and Gervase. Ciera blew it!

Tyson was solid, committed, and he was consistent in following through with the entire game. Gervase had no sense of how he came across, which answers why he received no juror votes as he was never going to best Tyson because, in fact, he didn't do that even against Monica. He couldn't win any votes from the jury. He had nothing to offer. Monica was not independent in any way from Tyson and Gervase to win over the vote. She garnered her single vote from Vytas primarily because Vytas rejected any willingness to vote for Tyson. So this played out pretty sensibly, even though it was predictable, that Survivor: Blood vs. Water was handily won by Tyson.

Well said.

Sadly future contestants NEVER learn from the mistakes of the likes of Ciera. They'll fuck it up just like she did and the frontrunner will win, as you said, handily. Damn, at this juncture in the show's history, I wish outside coaching was allowed. ;)

I totally agree with you that the Monica pile-on at the Final TC was the same sexist bullshit that's all too familiar on this show (and even moreso on Big Brother) -- and I love the Linda Holmes shoutout, she's one of my favorite pop culture writers :D -- but I don't agree that Ciera blew it by not siding with Hayden and Caleb. Had she flipped at that point, she would've been fourth (Hayden/Caleb/Katie were obviously tighter) which is no better than the position she was already in with Tyson/Gervase/Monica. The best Ciera could do was vote out Caleb, force a tie-vote and hope for the rock-picking to go her way, thereby placing her in an automatic Final 3 with Hayden and Katie.

And honestly, it's not like Hayden would be any easier to beat than Tyson.

"Even moreso on Big Brother" -- so true. All five of our female BB USA winners had to beat another woman to do it. Every male/female final combination on BB saw the man win (Will > Nicole, Boogie > Erika, Dick > Dani, Andy > GM), while it's fairly common on Survivor for a woman to beat one or more men in the finals (Tina > Colby, Jenna > Matt, Amber > Rob, Sandra and Natalie > Russell, Sophie > Coach, etc).

Haven't seen any mention this on the forums today. Caleb (I hope you all still remember him) died Tuesday from an apparent railway accident while working in Alabama. He was a conductor for a coal train company. He was still engaged with Colton. He was only 27. Sad, he seemed liked a really good guy.
