Survivor 28: Brawn, Brains and Beauty

God you have to watch Trish's interview with Parvati. Turns out she likes Morgan too which makes me even more disappointed that the women didn't just work together to get rid of all the guys this season.

Actually you two look like Sansa and Margaery and perhaps you would have to fight near the moon door to see who could throw the other off.

Not loving this new finale format that simply gives Jeff more airtime.

Bwahahahahaha. I can't stand Kass but her winning that F4 challenge after being so out of it was awesome. Please please PLEASE let them not fall for Tony's BS idol and just vote him out now.

UGH. Not only did Woo deny us the chance to see Tony's torch snuffed, but he also denied us the joy of seeing the women on the jury rip into Kass. WTF? Even if he beats Tony, he obviously had a slam dunk victory against Kass. I've never seen a dumber choice at a final tribal council.

Everytime Woo spoke...

I thought he had a chance after Trish's speech.

Everything about this finale just seemed so off, with one fake-out after another. It started great with Kass and Woo winning the last two immunities, lulling me into thinking that my wish would be granted with Spencer and Tony both getting the boot. But instead Woo does the DUMBEST THING IMAGINABLE and boots Kass. But then still, I was lulled into thinking he could actually beat Tony when the jury seemed to really hate Tony except for Spencer's stupid speech and Tasha rolling her eyes at Woo. When Tasha voted for Woo and Tony initially seemed glum at the reunion, I thought OK great, it's going to be a landslide for Woo with Spencer as the only vote for Tony (thereby hilariously making Spencer unable to convince anyone of anything all season long). But it turned out...Tasha was the only vote for Woo. WTF?

And still this ending was better than the fuckery that was happening over at the American Idol finale.

Well, wow! Big kudos to the editors this season for not making everything so damn obvious. Once Spencer finally went, of course I figured I was right in thinking everything had been building to a Woo/Kass F2 with a Woo win, and even after he voted out Kass, I still thought he'd win over Tony based on the editing. I can stomach Tony winning I guess even though I liked Woo more.

I've been getting the feeling that, from behind the scenes, Survivor is fucking with the game to prop at least one preferred player and to control a narrative. (At least to some extent.)

There is much to say. But with the series nearly 15 years in age, I'm tired of the cultishness and the shallowness of the proceedings that include live Reunion specials which produce no more than 10 minutes of important content. Too much included is directed away from the castaways, the reason for the special to begin with, and that's being done in favor of promoting some audience member—like a former player (whose presence I don't appreciate let alone is it required)—with some inappropriate and tacky update. This is done also at the expense of some earlier-boot Survivor castaways deemed too dull for the viewers' attention.

I'm glad this is over.

Brice was ignored at the reunion. I'm not surprised. And that stupid cop with the fugly ass tattoos won. Shove that money up his ass for all I care. You know them Puerto Ricans like it kinky.

Woo looked HAWT at the reunion, I have to say. It's just too bad he's such a moron.

I almost fell off my chair when Woo chose Tony. The only chance he had was Kass' ass, but he let that sit on the jury. I like that Kass took the heat for being such a lousy personality, but it might have been fun to hear her defend herself at tribal had Woo made the right chose. I hated that Spencer lost the challenge to Kass, and his fate was sealed. Too bad, I thought he played a great game and I still like him.

The reunion sucked. It was all promotion, Probst telling us what a great show Survivor is, and talked to irrelevant people rather than the more interesting players. I suppose he felt he had to validate Tony's win by speaking with his supervisor, or whatever that creepy guy was.

I happen to like the winner of Idol because he is from my home town and gave great performances. Jena was fine but for me the only performance she gave that I liked was Creep, a song I love. I also liked the winner of The Voice even though I really hate that show and record it to ff through all the judges drudging. I am glad it is falling, like Idol, into the pits of nobody watches. Idol and Voice have become all about the judges and that is sickening. I like the winners of Amazing Race, well I liked the son. The father got seriously on my last nerve. Oh and Jena's little bro was a real cutie.

If I had to place this season on my list, I'd probably say...
Top 5: Pearl Islands, Borneo, Amazon, China, Heroes Vs. Villains
Top 10: Marquesas, Philippines, Nicaragua, Micronesia, Exile Island
11-18: Gabon, Africa, Australia, Cagayan, One World, Thailand, Palau, Vanuatu
Bottom 10: Guatemala, Blood Vs. Water, South Pacific, Tocantins, Samoa
Bottom 5: Caramoan, All-Stars, Fiji, Cook Islands, Redemption Island

So, yeah... it's dead in the center for me. Definitely a step up over the last few seasons (Blood vs. Water feels like some bizarre spinoff in hindsight but I'd be willing to see the twist with a new cast rather than the joke of the cast the first one had) but a tiny bit overrated compared to Jeff's overselling of it. It had a VERY strong female cast (Tasha <3 Trish <3 J'Tia <3 Queen Morgan <3 and Kass even though I don't love her is acknowledged as epic), had fairly even editing and was unpredictable thanks to that better editing and the lack of spoilers. Those episodes after the merge where it turned into the Spencer and Tony show were what kept it out of the top ten for me, but the pre-merge was incredible and it did finish strong enough too. I'm also glad that Tony is the first time in years where the show didn't bend over backwards to edit the winner as a white-washed personality-free gamebot with no negativity.

Trish's speech was so the only thing I like in that final episode.
Woo is such a dummie for letting tony win !!!

Well that felt like a bit of a disappointment the finale ended up, seeing Spencer going first and then that idiot Woo voting out Kass. Who else noticed how Tony seemed to be the only one missing from the green room or maybe i was wrong a sign of things to come later on in the show and final tribal felt crap to me felt so short. Id love to know why Tash voted for Woo.

Probably just a pity vote because she knew he was going to lose. I hope some day soon we can get another close vote in the finals.

I can't begrudge Tony his victory and like slip, I'm also grateful the editors did a better job of keeping us guessing this season. But uncertainty is not the same thing as inexplicable, and I just don't get why Trish blasted Tony so fiercely and practically air-kissed Woo, only to give Tony her vote. Ditto Jeremiah who really seemed disgusted with Tony, and Jeffra who wanted him to own his role as the villain (instead he refused and got defensive with her) and who never seemed to like him during the game either. Woo still would've lost but after that TC, I thought it was his game to lose, and it should've at least been a 5-4 vote with Trish, Jeremiah, Jeffra and (I guess?) Tasha for Woo. And I just don't (or don't want to) believe that Spencer's stupid speech changed their minds, especially since he could never get them to do anything he wanted all season long.

Other sites have pointed out the irony that Woo winning that last immunity sealed his own fate i.e. if Kass had been a second faster and won, Woo would've won the game, because she would've voted out Tony. However, I don't think that's an easy call to make. Even though Tony didn't play a perfect game, I have to give him LOTS of credit for having enough of an influence over Woo to make him do the impossible in not taking an obvious goat to the finals. Woo is an idiot but that decision clearly had a lot to do with Tony's skills in bamboozling Woo and had Kass won the final immunity, I think he could've bamboozled her too. After all, she'd have every reason to believe Woo was too likable, and she has said over and over during the last few weeks that she wanted to go to the end with Tony because she (mistakenly) believed he was like Russell and no one would vote for him. I really think Tony played those two well and probably could have gotten either of them to take him to the end.

Incidentally, this is something Yul Kwon has said in various interviews. He knows that some fans devalue his victory because of the idol that took him to the finals and Yul insists that he was secretly building a pact with Ozzy (and convincing him that Becky was too nice to take to the finals) in anticipation of a F2. Woo taking Tony over Kass was even more stupid and even more incredible than if Ozzy had taken Yul (especially since the vote was much closer for the latter) so maybe Yul, like Tony, would've gone to the end and won any way.

FOX American Idol (8-10PM): 2.6/9, 10.53m viewers
CBS Survivor (8-10PM): 2.6/8, 9.58m viewers

WTF, how did Idol tank so hard this entire season but still tie Survivor in the demo and pass it in the number of viewers for the finale?

Doesn't matter slip. The story will still be that this was the season when Survivor kicked Idol's ass. About which I am genuinely pleased.

Also seeing China so high on your list just makes me wish they never tried a F3. Cuz Amanda would've definitely won the last immunity and taken Courtney...who would've then beaten her in a hilarious WTF win. Imagine a world where BFF's Courtney and Sandra are BOTH winners!
