Survivor David vs Goliath

In a sign of how nerd culture has become dominant culture and how annoyingly alpha the Cochran type has now become on Survivor and Big Brother, I actually find myself rooting for someone John* Wrestler Hulk whatever-his-name-is more than someone like Christian.

*subject to change depending on whether Probst starts overhyping John or how many more references to Slamtown I have to endure.

I love that John has been taking off his shirt a lot more lately. I wish Dan would do the same!

I am enjoying this season a lot now. Suddenly the tempo and personalities have kicked in.

I was sorry to see John go, but I did enjoy the looks on the Goliath's faces as it played out. I couldn't believe Dan played one of his immunity idols on whats her name, he was so not a fan of hers, neither am I, guess it was to keep the Goliaths strong. I was really starting to like this Strike Force alliance but I'm afraid Mikes paranoia will dismantle it.

Right now I'm liking Nick and Alec, they don't seem so set on the David vs. Goliath thing and are willing to do what it takes. Not to mention I enjoy looking at them as well ;)

She begged for Natalie's jacket, pleaded with Dan and thinks she is running the show. She strikes me as a wannabe who feels she is entitled.

I'm glad Angelina is still around (for the same reasons I'm sure slip is) but I was kinda hoping Dan wouldn't play his idol on her because:

1) Then she'd be likely to flip to the Davids next week with lots of drama/fallout before hand and
2) The LOL symmetry of Angelina asking yet another tribe member for an item at TC and being ignored.

So, I have gotten my wish from above (Dan shown shirtless more). I have also noticed that they seem to be ok with showing the well pronounced bulges of John, Dan and Nick with their tight boxer briefs.

Regarding the past Tribal: I was really hoping that Dan would ignore Angelina and not protect her based on comments he had made earlier in the show. Maybe he felt cornered and pressured and that he hadn't gotten the support of his teammates to do so. My question is: why didn't he give her the earned immunity idol around his neck instead of the hidden one? That way he could still have it in his pocket and most people didn't know about it

Not that it means anything since Jeff clearly makes this shit up as he goes along to enable his faves (see also: Ben last year), but in the past immunity won from a challenge had to be passed to another player before everyone had gone up to vote (meaning Dan would have to announce to everyone that he was giving his challenge immunity to Angelina, signaling the Davids to vote for him instead of her), and it looked like Dan was debating playing his hidden idol on Angelina up until the last minute, so yeah.

Hubris will be Dan's downfall. What a hunk though. At the reward challenge, he showed off holding three 10 lb sandbags with one hand. Then dropped them soon after...robbing his team the reward. He told his "girlfriend" Kara about his 2nd idol (stupid move). He felt invisible going into tribal with an immunity challenge necklace and 2 idols in his possession. I think that's why he gave Angelina the idol. With a surprised twist, that tribal council did not disappoint!

I love how after Alec and Mike snickered last week that Carl and Davie can't do shit (the two black men -- great optics assholes!), Davie bounced John with his idol and Carl bounced Dan with his nullifier. This season has been fun and satisfying and the only people I don't want to see win are Alec, Mike and Christian in that order.

I didn't know there was an idol nullifier in Survivor. Have they had one in previous seasons? That sure threw a curve in the game. I didn't particularly care about Dan except that he made good eye candy.

Episodes like last night are why my trust in this show wanes. That "good gameplay" in a game of social strategy comes down to "building your resume" via playing your secret magical sticks that you hunted down in the woods to eliminate somebody else who correctly played his secret magical stick to save himself and oh my god it doesn't need to be so complicated ugh. And I don't even care about Dan!

I think last night showed just how many idols and safeties there are and ultimately ruin the game. I think I went cross-eyed when everybody was opening a trick bag.

Slipintothefog and joesman are right, of course. And you know the abundance of powers and twists in this game over the last few years has really bothered me. I want nothing more than a return to a F2, more emphasis on characters than gaming, and just ONE idol per season is enough (they could easily do one idol pre-merge that expires at the merge and another idol post-merge than expires at F5 and that would be more than enough). I can't imagine how anyone who isn't steeped in the fandom follows an episode of this show anymore. I know the show is still popular but aren't they repelling new viewers by constantly stroking the erogynous zones of the nerdiest fans?

When Jeff said, "And THIS is the idol nullifier", I felt embarrassed for him at how far this show has strayed into silliness. I mean if we're going to have idol nullifiers now, couldn't we just...not have idols at all? The reason they introduced this new power is obviously because the preponderance of idols have left the other players powerless to make a move against someone holding multiple idols. But isn't the cleaner solution then to just have less idols in the game? This reminds me of that Simpsons episode where an infestation of lizards cured the town of its pigeon problem but then they had to introduce snakes to eat the lizards, and gorillas to eat the snakes...

I've said this about Big Brother but it applies to Survivor too: this show is too dumb to be this complicated.

But if the show is going to be this ridiculous, I'm just glad the powers benefitted Nick/Gabby/Davie/Carl this time (though I could care less about Christian).

I really don't find any of the Davids likable, so maybe that's why it's annoying to me that they benefited from throwing insane advantages at the wall until they got a Goliath out. I didn't mind Davie but he was really annoying in the last episode with the super played-up/cringeworthy wrestling promo confessional about getting out John, Christian and Nick both suck and I recoil every time I hear the words "Mason Dixon" uttered on this show, Carl is mostly a surly bore, and Gabby is only funny when she manages to throw in a weekly sobbing session over nothing.

This is just one of those casts where the ensemble works better than any of the individual players though I guess. Because even on the Goliath side I only really care about ANGELINA and need her back on my screen being transparent and causing meltdowns and openly calling out things like men always being the ones to "find" idols on this show and take credit for the strategic moves that women came up with first/participated in. ugh, a queen

I have episodes on my DVR I haven’t seen yet but omg this is a good season. I’m so happy Natalie is gone she was a bitch I’m surprised she wasn’t voted out at tribe sooner.

I hated Gabby tonight but if she gets Christian out next week (I doubt it), I will love her for the rest of the game.

My read of the edit tells me this is Kara's game to lose. Considering she'd be invisible bikini fodder on most seasons I think it's suspicious that the show keeps going out of its way to frame everything from her point of view (Dan boot, bonding with the Davids at the reward, etc).
