If you thought the Cook Islands cast was diversed.... geez, get a load of this!

It turns out that the racial diversity of "Survivor: Cook Islands" wasn't just a one-time fluke.

On Friday (Jan. 12), CBS announced the cast members for the 14th installment of Mark Burnett's hit reality franchise, the appropriately titled "Survivor: Fiji." And, true to Burnett's recent promises, the show's cast is every bit as the stars of the race-baiting Cook Islands season.

The contestants range in age from 23 to 54 and the group includes players born in Hong Kong, Colombia, Venezuela and South Korea. Expect plenty of Hurricane Katrina subplots, as at least three players have direct ties to Louisiana.

As always, there will be twists. The players won't be divided into tribes until the third day, prior to an Immunity challenge. The tribe that wins that challenge will return to camp with "copious resources," while the losing tribe will receive only a pot, machete and water source. In addition, there will be a hidden Immunity idol at each camp, but the only clues to find the important trinket are located on Exile Island.

How 'bout that?
 
I think they go over board with the twists sometimes. The resources better not be too "copious" it's freakin survivor. If they make it luxurious it's just as bad as bringing back Lil that one time. It goes against the core of the game. And I also think a SECOND immunity idol is a little overboard. If they keep it to one twist a season they wouldn't have to completely rewrite the fabric of the game.

I think one of the flaw with survivor ending is that all the contestants get to vote who they think should win that $1 million dollars. So, if someone had a rough time with someone in the island etc, than chances of winning would be very slim.

They should make the ending where the final contestants have to compete with each other in a series of task like starting a fire or catching fishes etc.

I couldn't disagree more. Survivor is overall a social game. And it takes great social skills to have teh people you vote out hand you the cash. If you reduce it to a final competition it becomes empty and hollow. Every season there's one person who dominates competitions but it doesn't mean they deserve to win. The game is much more multi-dimensional than that.
 
It's probably because the last cast was exceptionally attractive... at least the men

It's the same thing except it's having attractive people shirtless on an island. Even the old people they picked are ugly. The only ok looking one is Boo.

You say that now... but once the show gets started... people start to look different. Heck, I didn't look twice at Brad until midway through last season.

I think there are several cute or maybe-cute guys! Alex is maybe-cute, Dre is gorgeous, Book is maybe-cute, Edgardo is crazy gorgeous, James is maybe-cute, Mookie is maybe-cute...I'm on board! (Of course, I always am...)
 
Apparently one of the contestants this season is a sister of a finalist of 'Project Runway', Nick Verros from season 2.

Cook Islands was suprisingly really really good. So I'm hoping Fiji is just as great.

And I'm glad the casts are so diverse now.

and yeah...Boo's freakin' hot.
 
I think its good that they keep trying to do new things with the show. For a while I stopped watching the show because it was the same thing every season. I thought the racial idea this year was pretty good and it turned out pretty good to me.

I agree that it's nice to do new things but it's the sheer nu[FONT=&quot]m[/FONT][FONT=&quot]ber of twists each year... it's just not neccessary.

Yes, tomorrow night.... just a small insight from me here beforehand. I know some people think this cast is "non-attractive", which I disagree with, but I do think the cast not being all pretty face would actually be more interesting and see how the audience (to which I mean some jubbers here) root for players without the eye-candy bias.

But yay... Survivor, Office AND Betty... my DVR boxes are going on extra duty tomorrow night!
 
A lack of hotties compared to last season. Boo's pretty hot, and I think Anthony is too. Edgardo's alright. But I miss Cook Islands (Yul, Becky, Ozzy, Sundra...and Jonathan). I don't think this season will be as good.
