Susan Boyle is in the studio recording a Christmas album, according to U.S. retail sources. While details on what will be on the album are still unclear, Sony is targeting an October streetdate for the as-yet-untitled album.

Columbia spokeswoman Fran DeFeo confirms that Boyle is "recording a new album to come out later this year," but doesn't have any details on the nature of that recording.

While most retail and industry sales executives say that they expect Taylor Swift's "Speak Now" to be the industry's biggest selling album in the U.S. at the end of the year, most say the Susan Boyle album also will rack up healthy sales and at least one merchant is betting that Boyle will be the "must have" record for the gift-giving season.

Boyle's debut album "I Dreamed A Dream" has sold more than 3.7 million copies in the U.S. It was second only to Taylor Swift's "Fearless" in terms of overall sales in 2009.

Susan Boyle Announces New Album 'The Gift,' 'Perfect Day' Single

Susan Boyle will follow last year's record-setting debut "I Dreamed a Dream" with "The Gift," her second full-length. Set for release Nov. 9 on SYCO/Columbia Records, the 10-track album will feature the "Britain's Got Talent" superstar offering a "seasonal collection" of holiday songs and inspirational pop covers.

A cover of "Perfect Day," the Lou Reed song that Boyle unsuccessfully tried to sing on "America's Got Talent" earlier this month, will be the album's first single.

Boyle's "Gift" will also include performances of Christmas classics like "The First Noel," "O Holy Night" and "Away In A Manger," as well as re-workings of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" and Crowded House's "Don't Dream It's Over." Boyle will duet with Amber Stassi, the winner of her Susan's Search online talent contest, on "Do You Hear What I Hear?"

"I wanted there to be a mix of songs that would flow with all our moods this holiday season," says Boyle of "The Gift" in a statement. "As much as the season is a time for reflection, it is also a time for fun and enjoyment with those closest to us."

Upon its November 2009 release, "I Dreamed a Dream" became the only debut album by a female artist to debut at No. 1 and top the Billboard 200 for six weeks. The set has since sold 3.8 million copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Susan Boyle's 'The Gift' Already a Best Seller

Although Susan Boyle announced the Nov. 9 release of her second album "The Gift" only three days ago, the set has already shot to No. 1 on Amazon's Bestsellers chart based on pre-order sales. The singer's sophomore effort reached the top spot on Wednesday (Sept. 22) in its second day as a pre-order, officially kicking off what Amazon director of music Craig Pape describes as "the season of Susan" for the online retailer.

It's pretty significantly No. 1," says Pape, who would not reveal specific sales figures but says that the volume of pre-orders has exceeded his expectations. "The Gift" has leapfrogged fourth-quarter efforts by Taylor Swift, Eric Clapton and Neil Young on the Bestsellers tally, with only pre-orders of Bob Dylan's "The Witmark Demos" coming close to Boyle's sales, according to Pape.

"It's a relative ranking, and a lot of it depends on the release schedule and what else is in the market," says Pape. "But looking at this list, you can see that it's a pretty strong slate of releases, so it's a non-trivial position to take the top slot during this release period."

Boyle is no stranger to Amazon's Bestsellers chart: her 2009 debut "I Dreamed a Dream" broke records as Amazon Music's largest CD pre-order ever before it moved 3.8 million U.S. copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan. It is still unclear whether or not "The Gift" will rival the pre-order figures of "Dream," as "the pre-order window for this record is shorter from the last," says Pape.

Set for release on SYCO/Columbia Records, "The Gift" will include Boyle's take on Christmas classics "O Holy Night" and "The First Noel" as well as performances of Lou Reed's "Perfect Day" and Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah." The album is displayed at the top of Amazon Music's main page with a link to the pre-order as well as a Susan Boyle artist page. Apple's iTunes store also prominently features "The Gift," and the album currently sits at No. 2 on Barnes & Noble's music bestsellers list.

"I personally expect to see it in that top slot for quite a while," says Pape. "Through street date and beyond, through Christmas, sales should stay very strong."

Susan Boyle Gives Oprah's 'Biggest Performance Ever'

Performing for the Pope was a huge accomplishment for Susan Boyle, but on yesterday's (Oct. 19) episode of "The Oprah Winfrey Show," the singer gave what Oprah called the biggest performance the show has ever seen.

Boyle took over Oprah's stage with a 60-person choir to perform the Crowded House hit "Don't Dream It's Over," which appears on her upcoming album "The Gift," for Winfrey's "The Next Big Thing" episode. All of the guests, including Boyle, 10-year-old "America's Got Talent" sensation Jackie Evancho, and "You Light Up My Life" singer Debby Boone, were named as the "next big thing" when they first took the spotlight.

Boyle was 47 before she shocked the world with her "Britain's Got Talent" audition last year and went on to have the best-selling album of 2009 with her debut disc, "I Dreamed a Dream."

Despite recent illness, which kept her from performing on "Dancing With the Stars," Boyle looked radiant as she serenaded the crowd and viewers at home. You go Su-Bo!

Susan Boyle On Grammy Nomination: 'I'm Lost For Words'

Susan Boyle is "lost for words" over being nominated for a Grammy award for the second time.

Her 2010 record The Gift has been shortlisted for Best Traditional Vocal Pop Album, against Barbra Streisand, Tony Bennett, Harry Connick Jr and Seth McFarlane.

She said: I am thrilled to have been nominated a second time for a Grammy award. It is a real honour but to be in a category with Barbara Streisand and Tony Bennett, well I'm lost for words.

"It is wonderful. Just to have been nominated again is fantastic."

The Gift topped charts on both sides of the atlantic, and SuBo's third album Someone To Watch Over Me made No. 1 in the UK and No. 4 in the US last month.

Earlier this week she said that a tent is top of her Christmas list, so she's ready for T In The Park next year.

Looks like Boyle's Christmas album has become a holiday tradition. The album re-enters the Billboard Top 200 this season. Last week it debuted at 191, and this week jumps to 92!

Go Susan(!)

And meanwhile she tried to promote her album at twitter with the glorious hashtag of #susanalbumparty
