Swimming is great because it trains almost everything. I usually do 2km once or twice a week.

For a nice start .. alternate styles, 500m breast strokes, 500m front crawl (freestyle).
for extra toning repeat this with 150m each just doing legs or arms and keeping the rest still (you should use a pullboy and board for this, some pools offer them for free but they aren't expensive either).

Swimming is (pretty much) the only exercise that works every muscle in your body. And a "swimmers build" is the most flattering one there is IMO...

Corny's routine(s) will ensure you get extra attention in some key areas.

Do we get some Before and After pics???

Swimming is a great exercise. I learned to swim as an adult and am not the best, but have been able to enjoy it's benefits for many years now. The cardiovascular work out is well worth it and can be quite effective. Though I have work with weights on and off since I was younger, lately I have solely relied on swimming and playing in the water to tone my muscles and keep in shape. I am finally mastering the breaststroke and it has done wonderful things for my pecs, my back and even my arms, no wonder they called i the perfect exercise. Enjoy.

Swimming if done right is the best cardio you can have with no stress to your joints and a full muscle toning. There are a lot of techniques and methods for these, you might want to do either some research online or get a trainer for a week then for another week after about a month....

You will soon get hang of it and it feels great.

I have very seriously considered taking up swimming again strickly for the cardio workout it gives and because there is no impact to the joints. But really for me the biggest reason why I'm considering taking up swimming again is because I would stay cool. If I work out hard I get so hot I sort of burn myself out and I can actually feel the heat radiating off myself. Seems like being in a pool of 80 degree water might keep my from over heating.

I spent one and a half hours in the pool with my dogs last night, it was an amazing work out for us all, today they are still tired and though I am too, my pecs feel great and even my abs are very tight, swimming is great, enjoy. Looking forward to the after pics.

Swim twice a week, run twice a week, gym three times a week

run, gym, swim, gym, run, gym, swim

gym: push muscles, pull muscles and tone (everything) are the focus of each of the 3 gym visits
