Man was without sin til that fateful day he and Eve ate the fruit of the tree that was forbidden. God never requires Man to sin. God has given every Man free-will to do as he pleases. We have all done a damn good Job of fucking that one up.

That's all true, but bankside has a point: since the Fall, it isn't possible to not sin. Sin is like a genetic disorder: our first parents got the 'mutation', and it's been passed down ever since. When God through the prophet said, "There is none righteous, not even one", and "All have sinned, and fallen short of the glory of God", he wasn't observing a fact that stems from us starting on some neutral ground and, astoundingly, every last human chose to go with sin, he's noting a condition that is systemic, universal throughout the race: we cannot not sin.

Bankside chooses to lay that at God's feet, saying "You require us to sin!" Looking at it neutrally, that's not an unreasonable accusation. The Bible's view is otherwise... but delving into that would take more words than I'm willing to type right now, so I'll leave it there.

Notwithstanding that I reserve the right to lay this dilemma at the foot of zeus or shiva, I think the concepts of sin and judgement are where christianity reaches its peak of incoherence. Think a bit more about why those writings on the Mystery of Iniquity are not satisfactory. It may be your ticket to freedom.

Anyway, being somewhat short of keystrokes myself, I will just close with a note about that fantastic turn of phrase "with God, all things are possible."

I was casually browsing through Dante's Inferno the other day and one of the things that struck me was the narrator's sympathetic attitude toward the sinners. At times he's bemused and at one point even offers a chair to his old mentor (and seventh circle sodomite) Brunetto Latini. (Latini declines because he must endure endless peripatetic revelry. )

On the other hand, Miss Sy Rogers is making histrionics of shame. "Dirty, nasty, filthy and defiled!" (Women in audience nodding sagely.) It's so exaggerated and overly serious. I want to tell him, lighten up pal, this sort of thing can happen to anybody.

What a crippling way to lead life, without a sense of humor.

When I was in college, an acquaintance who was a hardcore fundamentalist/Pentecostal found out my deal and tried to pray my gay away, and she gave me a pamphlet with his testimony. (Incidentally, this same girl was almost as butch as some FTMs I've seen and told me she would have been a lesbian if she weren't a Christian. I wonder if she ever came to terms with herself ...)

This is the same struggle that I have and it looks as if he has had it a whole lot longer than me. What he is doing is EXTREMELY difficult and I applaud him for it.

Non gay Christians won't understand how important it is for us to feel that connection from God to us. Most gay's thing that the most important that in life is being gay and proud of it but life it seems stretches farther than pride and being gay. I realize that life encompasses all things, including gays and lesbians, straights, weirdos, lonely people, sad people, angry people, drug dealers, war lords, twisted people, sick people, and pretty much any person on earth.

There is more to human life than being gay, he see's it and so do I. He seems to be a bunch of steps ahead of me but I hope that I could make it there some day.

Turning from gay to straight (in my opinion) is even harder than being celebant because your life has to change so much and allow God to be such a huge part of your life that you change from the inside.

I noticed that it seems like a loss for a gay man to turn straight to a lot of people. I don't know where he stands today on the whole issue but it appears that he has given his life to the Lord of Lords and King of Kings. This actually gives me some hope.

Stand up for yourself, you are exactly the way God made you. I consider my ability to TRULY appreciate the beauty of a perfect male specimen a marvelous gift from God and I won't ever take it for granted. You sound like an intelligent person so why do you let any of these people continue to effect you? Reject them or at least ignore them. You know how hard it is to get that programming out of the human mind? I was nearly forty before I got it through my head that sex itself wasn't evil, and enjoying the feeling of having an erection didn't mean I was under demonic influence.

When coming out means losing almost all your friends and most of your family, things aren't any easier.

Plus finding anyone to even be friends with when fighting to try to not be homeless again is a joke.

To be honest I’m mostly on this site to talk about sex – but I’m also interested in the ideas you talk about – though I disagree with a lot of these.

Maybe this sounds arrogant – but Westerners seem to have a total “Youth Cult” – what is so great about “Young Love”? – making love is with a person not a lump of sexy looking meat.

I think a lot of “Asian Values” are pure shit – but respect for age and experience is one good aspect of our culture.

I’ve got the same anger as you against a culture which tells me I’m bad – for me a lot of these evil ideas held by other people seem to be based on religion.

Also I have personal experience of a tragic result for someone conflicted by the same religious and cultural pressures
