T.I., Wife Arrested on Drug Charges

T..I. and his wife Tameka Cottle were arrested late Wednesday night (Sept. 1) on drug charges after police smelled alleged marijuana coming from their car, authorities said.

The arrests for possession of a controlled substance came on Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood during a traffic stop, Los Angeles sheriff's deputy Mark Pope told the Associated Press.

"Deputies smelled a strong odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle," the department said. "A narcotics investigation ensued" that resulted in the arrests.

Will T.I.'s Comeback Be Derailed By His Arrest?

Multiplatinum rapper T.I. starred in the nation's No. 1 movie, recently married his longtime girlfriend, taped a music special for VH1 and was wrapping up a new album. But after an arrest Wednesday in California, there are questions about whether he's returning to the music charts - or prison.

The Grammy-winning hitmaker, who is on three years of probation, was taken into custody with wife Tameka "Tiny" Cottle on suspicion of possessing methamphetamines after police pulled over their Maybach in West Hollywood. They were released on $10,000 bail early Thursday.

While charges have yet to be filed, the case has the potential to put one of music's top names in behind bars yet again.

T.I. Summoned to Court After Arrest

T..I. is expected to appear before a federal judge in Atlanta to explain why his probation shouldn't be revoked after his recent arrest in Los Angeles.

U.S. District Judge Charles Pannell Jr. signed the summons for T.I., whose real name is Clifford Harris, on Thursday. The same judge sentenced Harris for firearms violations.

The order lists three possible violations of his bond: possession of ecstasy, testing positive for opiates and associating with a convicted felon.

Pannell did not set a date for the hearing.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's officials say the Grammy award-winning rapper was stopped Sept. 1 on a Hollywood street after making an illegal U-turn. Police say they found several pills confirmed to be a controlled substance.
