Tariffs in the second Trump Administration [SPLIT]

I suspect that part of the collateral damage will be more pressure in western nations to decouple from US currency as their reserve.

Obviously, it must be clear to the wing-nut MAGAts by now that tariffs is not about drugs or immigrants although those penguins can be shifty.

The markets are plunging again today while the White House tries to keep Wall Street onside.

Trump is determined to break the whole world except for his Kremlin pals.
Deals are being made as we speak.

By the way...this is from 2 years ago.

But the question remains...Cui Bono?

It would be better for Europe not to react to the interest rates, no counter tariffs. Better for us to create new markets quickly and in the short term. Unfortunately, the American citizen will pay the bill. Hasn't he sworn to protect the people and America from harm?

That's right. In his oath of office, he swears to defend the constitution. Well then he's done everything right.

He has lost markets for American goods all over the world in less than 8 weeks.

Markets that American farmers and manufacturers will never get back.

In March alone over 275,000 workers have been laid off.

He is not defending anything. There's nothing in the US constitution that covers taking a wrecking ball to the US economy and triggering a deep recession in order to
destroy democracy.

He has violated the constitution more times in less than 100 days than any other president in history did over two terms.

Thank you! I wasn't very familiar with the constitution. In Germany, the incumbent has to swear an oath to the country and the people. I am against tariffs like most people in Europe. They should be completely abolished for everyone. A big issue here too. It's a shame that things have turned out this way and we don't know how it will end. Not a good starting position. Thanks for the explanation.

And away we go... day 2.

I'll relate a discussion that I had with a Republican friend of mine in the summer of 2016:
Republican friend: "Do you think that Trump will make America great again?"
Me: "Having watched Trump since the 80s, I haven't seen Trump do much of anything that wasn't in his own interest.

He's a malignant narcissist. After watching his actions during COVID-19, it became apparent that he's also a sociopath.

In the past Americans have lived by two assumptions: "The voters know best" and "The leaders we elect will follow their oath to the Constitution". Both of those asssumptions have proven invalid this year.

Americans haven't confronted anarchists and nihilists in a very long time. We are dealing with a group of Trump supporters, many of whom were Bernie supporters in 2016, who are so angry at what they call "Elites", that they are willing to burn it all down to punish the people they believe have benefited from things like globalization and higher education. The rest of us who aren't anarchists are looking at things like the tariffs and wondering what will have to happen to get the anarchists back into the hole that they came out of.

Global trade war you say?

The US should bear in mind that China likely still owns a lot of the US debt.
