Tariffs in the second Trump Administration [SPLIT]

Given that is your understanding of tariffs in your opinion does the way Trump keeps changing what the tariffs are from one day to the next conducive to the desired outcome you describe?
Particularly since it has yet to influence the negotiations in the least?

I thought the purpose of the tariffs is to force manufacturing to take place in the US and thereby reduce the trade deficit, while also reducing US economic dependence upon other countries.

That's what Trump is saying.
But the way it's going, the purpose of the tariffs seems to be to manipulate the stock market.

He tariffs me. Sell.
He tariffs me not. Buy.
He tariffs me. Sell.
He tariffs me not. Buy more.

Another TrumpCo. writers' room rant....took them long enough to respond. The whole fucking group of them are unhinged. I read a lot of Stephen Miller in these screeds by the way.

Anyone else notice his hyperbolic hysterical phrasing?

The EU and other partners can now continue with trade talks armed with new leverage against TrumpCo., after the courts ruled that much of his platform for
tariffs is not legal. It is unlikely that TrumpCo. can get the ruling overturned and it would take sleight of hand by the SC to strip Congress of its power
to regulate trade and taxes by finding that decades long trade imbalances represent an emergency.

It would mean that the SC would have to overlook that the American businesses and ultimately the American consumers are the ones paying the duty at the point of sale.

Listening to KKKaroline's latest "press conference", I was thinking, "She's reading what Stephen Miller wrote", while she sounded much like a high school drama student performing in a melodrama.

George Will used to admonish Republicans who over-reached that, "Elections have consequences and you will be in the minority again someday soon".

These Trumpian "Courts bad, kings good" screeds are setting up a situation where following court orders is optional. That doesn't bode well for the future when the Republicans are running to the courts to constrain a Democratic President... like they did with Clinton, Obama and Biden. When Republicans have been in the minority, they've used the Courts to weaken Democratic legislation like the ACA, which the Republicans were unable to weaken or repeal legislatively.

And the Republicans may find themselves in the minority again sooner than they think.

Someone also wrote this for Trump's post.

Trying to spin that he didn't cave on China...only wanted to 'help them out' because they were in 'Grave Danger'.

What a hero. Partially extinguishing the fire he started.

Let’s not kid ourselves Trump opened the door to a president defying a court order, he doesn’t have the balls to do it but somebody else will be it a democrat or a republican and whoever that living person is until Trump they never would thought about running for office but now that a world of possibilities has opened up it’s only a matter of time.

Trump put his bets on the Supreme Court ruling the way he wants. He thinks Gorsuch, Cavanaugh and Barrett owe him, since he appointed them. Once he gets a SCOTUS ruling against him, then he'll toy with the idea of ignoring their order. The current strategy on a few of the orders is to send a dimwit DOJ employee into court to tell the judge, "Well, I don't know" or "We were waiting for you to put your verbal order into writing" or "Well, you said 'facilitate' and we didn't think you meant 'get it done'" and other such nonsense.

This week, one of Trump's screeds was against Leonard Leo, the guy behind all of those right wing Federalist Society organizations that made a Faustian bargain to get Federalist judges on the Federal Courts during Trump Reign #1. Now that those Trump-appointed judges are not doing what Trump wants, he's going after Leonard Leo and the Federalist Society for giving him the list of who to nominate. Trump referred to Leo as a "sleazebag".

“I was new to Washington, and it was suggested that I use The Federalist Society as a recommending source on Judges,” Trump wrote in the Truth Social post.

“I did so, openly and freely, but then realized that they were under the thumb of a real ‘sleazebag’ named Leonard Leo, a bad person who, in his own way, probably hates America, and obviously has his own separate ambitions,” the president continued.

I love that Leonard Leo and Trump...two of the worst men on earth...are in a pissing match.

Although Leo doesn't even have to care.

We don not asses the man in the same way, I don’t think he has the balls for it, you do. Time will tell which one of us reads him better. He loves and needs adulation and going rouge could put that at risk. He clearly likes to intimidate the court but without the security of leverage when does he ever do anything.

I assess the man as the projection of the Wizard of Oz. The MAGA cronies, inside the White House and outside the White House, who are behind the curtain want this fight.

With the impending overturn of tariffs on everything, TrumpCo. have decided that tariffs of 50% on steel, versus 25% should be implemented.

As Navarro said this week, if they can't impose tariffs one way, they will just use others...and the regime has the power to tax aluminum, steel and automobiles as they wish.

Some of this surely is out of spite now...as Trump reacts to the TACO moniker and the courts. Because he was seen to chicken out on China, he needed to prove that he is still BMOC, that he alone rules the markets and is tough on China.

Trump literally does not know how trade works.

He went on in the same vein about China not sending boatloads of stuff, claiming that the US was saving billions and billlions, whereas all it means is nobody buying anything, because the goods are not available.

He really is an incrediblyu stupid person.

So photos of bif price increases at Walmart, Target and other big retailers are starting to appear as the impact of tariffs is felt by the consumer.

Get ready shoppers...because in a few months there will be less and less to buy and less inclination by shoppers to buy it.

I just got my car insurance renewal and it went up 30%……ouch! My homeowners back in March went up 20%, my understanding is that housing materials and car parts have a large foreign component to them but I don’t think the increases I’m experiencing are because of tariffs because they have not kicked in yet so unless something changes I figure I should expect the same size increases next yr. Unlike food or gas or cloths when inflation hits your insurance bills it’s a large number, I hope my fellow Americans are prepared.
