Tariffs in the second Trump Administration [SPLIT]

I just got my car insurance renewal and it went up 30%……ouch! My homeowners back in March went up 20%, my understanding is that housing materials and car parts have a large foreign component to them but I don’t think the increases I’m experiencing are because of tariffs because they have not kicked in yet so unless something changes I figure I should expect the same size increases next yr. Unlike food or gas or cloths when inflation hits your insurance bills it’s a large number, I hope my fellow Americans are prepared.
Nope...you haven't even felt the tariff premium yet.

I repeat TrumpCo. doesn't understand how things actually work.

And MAGA was worried about the price of eggs.

There will be many more of these stories over the next 6 months.

So a framework for a plan to enter into negotiations for a trade agreement?

So fitting that Trump dropped the blank paperwork he was trying to brandish in order to claim the US had a deal.

It was always going to end up like this.

Many people and countries stopped buying US produce and goods.

So even if the US just bought the same amount of stuff from other countries as before...or even less....the trade deficit will increase.

The bottom is beginning to fall out. Things will start to get bad quickly now.

Americans’ view of the U.S. economy worsened in June, resuming a downward slide that had dragged consumer confidence to its lowest level since the COVID-19 pandemic five years ago.

It will be interesting to see how long TrumpCo. can keep spinning the lies about the economy or spraying bullshit about how tariffs are good for everyone.

The BBB provisions that give billionaires tax breaks while increasing taxes and the deficit might also finally be getting more notice across the country as people
are feeling the squeeze.

The American wine producers are taking a huge hit. Canada was 1/3 of their market and sales are now down 93% year over year.

Add that to the loss of sales to China and certainly the EU....tough days.

People in the US had better start chugging wine because the glut is going to ruin a lot of vintners.

Fox News has been rah-rahing Trump's Big Beautiful Bill and downplaying the effects of the tariffs. Fox Business was expecting the June jobs report to show that the economy added 100,000 new jobs.

Instead, the ADP jobs report showed a loss of 33,000 jobs in the private sector- which is 133,000 jobs less than expectations. The number would have been worse but private employers in the South, particularly at vacation resorts, were hiring which offset big losses in the midwest and west.

Private-sector employers cut 33,000 jobs in June, the first monthly decline in more than two years, according to the ADP National Employment Report released Wednesday.

The latest report comes as a surprise to economists who had anticipated a gain of about 100,000 jobs last month.

Service-providing industries led the losses with a net decline of 66,000 jobs in June, including a loss of 56,000 professional and business services jobs and 52,000 in the education and health services industries.

I’d add to that that GDP growth is treading down.

Did the GQP expect that all their hillbilly voters would suddenly replace all the lost foreign tourist dollars?

The ones that are now losing their benefits?

I suppose they assume that if you hire thousands of them to work for ICE at overtime rates, they will juice the economy...and I think this is exactly one of the expectations of this regime.

Get rid of the people who do things for people. Hire the people who will hurt people. And cha-ching for every Cracker Barrel restaurant in the US as the people who had no skills or chance of getting well paying work cos-play as federal agents and bring in the big bucks.

It's interesting that the Department of Labor released a report saying that the non-agricultural economy added 147,000 new jobs in June. That's significantly different than the ADP private sector numbers for June. The government's report attributed the gains to government hiring at the State/local level (+73,000) and in healthcare (+39,000).

Why would anyone beleive anything out of the Department of Labour now? Although, I would say that the hiring of white supremacist thugs as ICE agents and the staffing up of
private prison camps will juice the numbers.

See- that's the Catch-22 of what MAGA (and it's predecessor, the Republicans) is doing.

It used to be that if the Civil Service employees in government put out a number, you could believe that it was reasonably accurate.

By destroying the Civil Service and replacing the experts with appointees and incompetent lackeys, we end up with a government that we cannot trust. The cabinet heads get in front of Congress and say absurd things, they insult our elected representatives in Congress and they make "Dear Leader" political comments instead of stating facts.

This is one of the most dangerous aspects of what the MAGA people in the executive branch are doing. It has gone beyond the Reagan era, "Government is the problem" statements, and is instead, a conscious campaign to discredit the experts of the government. It is compounded by the fools, like RFK Jr, who the Senate Republicans confirmed and the ridiculous things that those appointees are saying and doing.

If, God forbid, we have another hurricane Helene or a national emergency like 9/11, we have absolutely no guarantee that there will be competent people in government to warn us in advance, to prevent it from happening or to come to the rescue if the worst does happen.

I suspect you can assume that even if there are still some competent people left in government, they are essentially useless because the farther up the food chain you go, the more likely you will have incompetent political hacks who are there for one purpose only...to make der Fuhrer and the regime look good.

In some other post where I wrote that the federal government has failed and been destroyed, I stand by this.

I can't think of one department that hasn't been so damaged and/or partially dismantled that any US citizen could count on helping them in a crisis.

But meanwhile, ICE...which is now destined to become the SS in the US has been given a budget larger than many other military or quasi-military units combined.
And their role will be to quell all dissent.
