Tariffs in the second Trump Administration [SPLIT]

So, fewer Canadian and Quebecer flags on the beach this year. 🇨🇦

A chill on tourism in Florida’s ‘Little Quebec’

Come winter, beach towns like this one dotting the Atlantic Coast stretch of Florida surrounding Fort Lauderdale have long brimmed with French Canadian tourists and other snowbirds who arrive for warmth and sunshine.

Alongside Florida’s famous beaches, they enjoy Canadian-owned restaurants serving some of their favorite foods, shows featuring some of Quebec’s biggest homegrown stars who fly in to perform and other glimmers of home that have sprung up in the area.

And the thing is...the US is losing a lot of the Boomers who have gone there in the past as a lot of them have had enough and are looking for other sun spots...and are increasingly unlikely to return as they age out of
travelling out of habit.

Demographics was going to catch up with the sunbird destinations eventually.

The Floridians have always had a love-hate relationship with the vacationing Quebecers. The large families stayed at the older, cheap hotels in Hollywood. The wealthy and gay Quebecers tended to stay in the hotels in North Beach and Ft Lauderdale. The locals sneer about what poor tippers they are. But money is money and it's a hellavu lot better than having a bunch of drunk Spring Breakers trashing everything like they do in South Beach and Ft Lauderdale.

Most of my Quebecer friends are going other places. They were going to Mexico but that's not the safest place at the moment. They were going to Cuba but the US has fucked that up now. It is a challenge for the vacationers from the rural areas who don't speak English. For the Quebecers who speak English, I guess maybe Jamaica might be an option (but they can't drive to Jamaica).
