For the science-minded, pre-cum is a simpler fluid that comes from the bulbourethral glands (7 in the picture, the tiny gland between the prostate and the base of the penis that you can feel is hard but is inside your body), with some fluid from the urethral glands. Its primary biological purpose is to neutralise acids to make a more alkaline environment that sperm can survive.

When sperm start making their way along the seminal ducts, they mix with fluids from these other glands. Much of it is fructose (fruit sugar) which is the primary source of energy for the sperm.
