Teaching straight people how it feels to be gay

They should practice this session in all the High Schools out there.

something for all parents to watch that are having issues with their kids on being gay

Wow! That is a very interesting approach. Maybe someone should shop that around in Hollywood and see if they can't make a blockbluster alternative reality flick.

I liked it. I think the speaker presented the fantasy life very well, he wasn't boring and he didn't make it feel draggy. My biggest gripe about homophobes are about the ones who don't believe it isn't a choice. It's so hard to get them to understand that. So I like how the speaker flipped things around so that the audience could relate as heterosexuals. I don't think "breeder" is as powerful a word as "faggot" though.

Even if being gay is a choice, I am not saying that it is, it doesn't matter. We choose do a lot of things every day. We also choose to be Christian, we choose the state we live in, we choose rather or not to eat meat, rather or not to eat at Mc Dee's, and a lot other things. We choose a lot of things are protected.

That's true, but it still irks me when somebody doesn't believe that I was born with an inherent same-sex attraction. Choosing to come out of the closet? That's the only choice available in the whole matter. You keep it to yourself or you let people know. The people who don't understand that are the ones I want to shake.

It irks me beyond belief too. That is how I would counter the arguement that being gay is a choice. I would say so is being christain. It is a choice so lets ban it.

Not to sound like a cynic but we can have these kinds of sessions til the end of time and there will still be homophobes out there rallying against us. It's a shame but some people thrive on hate, bigotry, and maliciousness. I guess these kinds of emotions keep the world going. Ah well.

At this point we've gotta start turning anger into action. We need a lot more people supporting the inclusion of sexual orientation in the high-school curriculum, it's a perfect age to present this information, just in time to counter the misinformation and prejudice that becomes second-nature by adulthood.

I had to post that on my facebook. Pretty much all of my friends are straight males. And they love me, and I love them, and they are awesome, but they still don't get how i'm gay.

Do you guys really think about this stuff? Every billboard contains straight people, every movie contains straight people, every school dance has straight people, your family is all straight?

I don't but I can see their point. It's just like girls who are surrounded by images of skinny, beautiful women everywhere. You don't see girls like Adele or Queen Latifah gracing magazine covers in bikinis because apparently that's undesirable.

I don't condone downlow men but that's just one of the many ways people submit to society's expectations. We're nowhere near as individualistic as we're lead to believe. There's an entire study (sociology) dedicated to how outside factors affect us; our behaviors, thinking patterns, etc...

Yup.

I think it would be interesting if everything was reversed and instead of heterosexuals being feature everywhere and being considered normal if gay was considered normal and featured everywhere.

And how odd it would be if everything was opposite.

I don't think either version would be any better. If there is ever a time where someone is denied something or judged just because of their sexual orientation or who they love.

Than apparently things aren't as good as they appear to be.

The quick answer is yes because to dance with your boy friend you have to go to a gay bar, to do it at a straight bar could be deadly at the most and at the least you get called "faggot". To kiss a man in public, hold hands, and such if you are not in the "gay ghetto" or at a gay bar at the most it could be deadly and at the least you get called "faggot"

Look at the supposed ground breaking series Will and Grace... It is nice they made a gay guy the centeral character, they made him a professional, but also for the vast majority of the series they had him out of a relationship, and that he was more or less Grace's husband without the sex involved.

Gay people had such a hard time going to church, they started MCC.

Gay guys have it so hard in some places they flee there hometowns to the big cities.

Granted it has gotten somewhat better... In some places but look at the damn bar raid in Fort Worth.

It is especially hard for a young kid coming out of the closet it is happening more and more and earlier and earlier and there is not a lot of positive role models.

What I found somewhat disturbing granted this forum is linked to a porn site but the title of the thread was living the gay life but the first book suggested in the forum on gay sex. That is part of the gay life not all of it.

There is an entire history to gay people that is largely ignored in the gay community and most assuredly in public schools.

It would be great to be able to walk down the street and see two gay guys on a billboard, but I doubt I will ever see it in my life time.

They really do need to teach Gay History in public schools. But like evolution. It ain't gonna happen.

I was amazed to how much GLBT history that is. By teaching the history it is possible to make people understand more as well.

But than again public schools..

*shivers*

It blows my mind away how few people realize that Pride commerates the Stonewall Riots. Or how many straight people have heard the term "twinkie deffense" but cannot link it to two men being gun downed, and that he got such a weak sentence because one of those men were gay.

I like the old lady in the archival news that said something to the effect that I am a little old lady, and I do not have much time left in this world, and I do not want to be alive when the man gets out of prison. He got something like 5 years for killing two elected public officials. Granted even if he was mentally ill he should have still been in prison.

Hell look at the fact that there were two lesbian women elected to public office before Harvey Milk.

Hell just look at the shear number of queer writers. Even though they are great and have written some of the best work in the history of written lanuage they are not taught in school because they explore queer content.

It is mind blowing...

I could go on and on but I won't...
