Teen Missionary on Kenya Trip Allegedly Raped Orphans

Has he admitted the assaults or are we still in the dark ?

Wouldn't surprise me if the kids parents put them up to it to try and make a quick buck.

At this point I would like to ask about your reading comprehension skills. For instance, what does the word 'orphan' mean to you?

Opening post, "...Matthew Durham confessed..."

^ I see nothing here either--

http://nairobi.usembassy.gov/

though i did see one of those platitudinous slogans which said "Africa's future is up to the Africans" (ie not to overseas busybodies) by Mr Obama.

I don't think that's the sort of information commonly updated on embassy websites.

Here.
Durham wrote and signed a confession that an Upendo official provided to the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi, according to an affidavit filed by FBI agent Scott Lobb.

Prosecutors appeal child abuse suspect's release [theguardian.com]

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Federal prosecutors have appealed a judge's order to release (on bond and house arrest) a 19-year-old Oklahoma man charged with sexually abusing boys and girls while volunteering at an orphanage in Kenya that assists neglected children.
....
Erwin ordered Durham's release after his parents testified they do not believe allegations he engaged in sex acts with up to 10 children aged 4 and 10 years old while volunteering at the Upendo Children's Home near Nairobi from April to June.

^ You mean "it" holds a belief in an entity other than Satan.......?

A Catholic demon, i thought they were all priests according to you.

If the allegations are true then he deserves everything he gets.
Although, even if he hadn't raped anyone, the fact of him being a missionary and spreading his bullshit religion to vulnerable children would make him an asshole in my book.

Half of Africa's problems stem from missionaries forcing their nonsense on them.

Nineteen year-old Matthew Durham volunteered at the orphanage in Nairobi several times over the last two years with an organization called Upendo, which "assists neglected Kenyan kids by providing food, housing, clothes and religion." Durham requested to stay at the orphanage with the children in a "overflow bunk" instead of offsite accommodations.

Upendo? Seriously?

A white American missionary goes to Kenya to provide food, housing, clothes and religion.

How very 19th century.

Can't feed the starving white man's burden without shoving Yaweh's cock down their throats first, never mind the missionary's.

Upendo? Seriously?
It's a real placename too...

I respectfully disagree with the bolded portion.

How many billions of dollars have been dumped into trying to help Africa? How many volunteers have been going there for decades?

When I was taking martial arts classes, one instructor tried to drill into us that if you do something once, twice, thrice, and it still doesn't work, then what makes you think a 4th time will work?

The same logic applies here. Volunteers and billions of dollars have been going there for decades, and there's been little change. I'm not saying we shouldn't try to help. But doing the same damn thing over and over ain't a solution.

Not saying I have the answer.

The problem is that the help being given tackles symptoms far more often than it addresses problems. You can teach people farming and build schools, but if someone else keeps burning the farms and keeping anyone from going to school, there will be little change.

The answer is in where the "help" is sent. I remember the old "save the starving Ethiopians" craze. Like you said, help was sent. Billions of dollars worth of food, but it did no good. Why, because it was sent to the leaders, who were already hoarding food and medical supplies in the first place! They got more while the starving masses got none of it. The cry went out for more help, which was sent. Right into the hands of the wealthy government, who sold it off for a profit with none going to its purpose of providing for the needs of the people. If the goods had just been taken in to the people, with adequate military protection, the starving masses would have been fed. The government would have sent the military in to confiscate it all, but the guards would have been prepared and able to deal with the threat. The corrupt government would have fallen and its wealth would have been properly distributed amongst those who needed it. That's the thing, though. You have to know how, and where, to help as well as knowing to help. Otherwise you ain't gonna do much good.

That, too.

I was once told that aid is often given to governments because they can be required to buy from the country who gave it. I think that's a lame excuse for not sending aid to the actual people.
