Teeth Bleaching

I've just come back from my Dentist, after spending £199 to have my teeth whitened with Polanight Bleach 16%.

I've got to do it for fourteen nights, so hopefully I'll see dramatic results at the end of it.

What does everyone else think about teeth bleaching?

Have you had teeth bleaching done and what were your results?

What other treatments if any do you recommend? "I.E nose jobs etc not just teeth related"

I gargle/rinse with hydrogen peroxide (3%) before brushing my teeth with a whitening toothpaste. I get great results. I have brushed also with baking soda.

Don't forget to floss! Ya know that flossing is actually more beneficial than brushing? True.

Treatments? Well about a year ago I noticed I was getting a little bit of a belly, so I started running. Sure as shit, it worked!!

Sorry to post in an old thread - just had some dental bleaching info for you -

16% is fairly low in terms of bleaching concentration. You can do in office bleaching at around 30%. I would say start with 20% at home. I would not recommend using a light - as it really doesn't make much of a difference and the heat can effect your amalgam (silver) fillings. Only bleach for an hour at a time - any longer will not provide results but just make your teeth more sensitive. If you get the bleach on your gums and it irritates them you can put vaseline on them prior to bleaching and it will help to not "burn" them.

You may never reach the "extreme white" (A1) color but it doesn't hurt to bleach. I would say use fluoride if your teeth become sensitive. I bleach about twice a month but I have A1 teeth naturally.

I was gonna say I told my mum this "She's a dentist" and she said 30% "I'm in the uk" is extremely unsafe and no private practice would ever give you that. also just to say FUCK YOU! My teeth are now A1 and they were C12 and i was using 16%

I don't know UK standards - but in the US 30% is not considered unsafe. It is a level that is used for in office bleaching. Although 16% is not "low" it is by US standards for bleach to be purchased from a dentist.

Also, before you post in the Health and Wellbeing section you should realize it is a no flame zone.

And if your mom is a dentist why did you have to pay for the bleach in the first place?!

The most common shade guide in the US is the Vita shade guide. According to that guide, A1 and B1 are the lightest colors (or "whitest") that are considered a natural color. Now days you can go for an even whiter/lighter color but it is considered "bleached". This is the order of the Vita shade guide:

B1*A1*B2*D2*A2*C1*C2*D4*A3*D3*B3*A3.5*B4*C3*A4*C4 with the first being the whitest and the last being the darkest. I'm not sure what shade guide he was using to have a C12...I'm NOT saying it doesn't exist, I have just never really heard of anyone using anything other than the Vita shade guide - but that is in the US ofcourse.
