Right that's what we pointed out a few times when the last 2-3 pages have been people saying stuff like "duh, it's reasonable for someone to not give their real name.."

The difference is, a big poster here has verified that was supposed to be their 'real name' and identity.

I don't know if Greeks go by this rule, but Spanish go by Father-Mother hyphenated Surnames, and only use the Father's in America.

Perhaps Andreus did the same - Example: Andreus Thanos-Olympian.

We actually have one Jubber still active who did that and then was apparently resurrected after a period in purgatory.

Obviously I have a very low opinion of anyone who might toy with some of their emotionally fragile fellows...but as long as they didn't try to raise money from the gullible...then it is a relatively modest betrayal.

It would be the difference between your parents faking their own death when you were 7 in order to not have to take care of you any more and some guy telling his room mate to tell the one night stand who wanted to get in touch again that he had moved far, far away.

I'm going to say that the nature of such a betrayal would fall somewhere between your two examples. No, it's not as extreme as abandoning a helpless child; but certainly, provoking grief is more serious than telling a white lie to a one night stand. I take it for granted that there were people here who felt they were friends enough with Andreus that they grieved for him; many of the sentiments in the Garden of Memories thread would seem to bear that out. Maybe I'm just not as cynical and suspicious as I ought to be?

I'm saying yes, you get it, and the thread is growing a lot from people casting what seems to be frowns Johann's way when they don't know the full story of the thread.

Maybe it's easier for me to look at it that way because I didn't know Andreus, his brother, BP, anyone, so I don't have those "close ties".

I'm of the opinion that without the "hawt" part of his persona including a naked avatar he wouldn't have gotten half the attention he did.

Actually, I'll give the guy (whoever he was) his due. He was fiercely passionate about things and extremely knowledgeable about things, and not shy to get stuck into anyone. And he could get his point across quite eloqently. Big penis aside, I think people would have gravitated to him anyway.

Even I, who had only been here about a year and 1000 posts when he left and had very little direct interaction with him, considered him kinda larger than life. This, I think, is why this thread has reached 17 pages. I suspect were we to raise this about any number of other JUB big guns - no names need mentioning, but I'm sure if we drew up lists there'd be many names popping up on them more than once - who've made a big contribution here over the years, they'd get to double figures easily, hot or not.

Make no mistake, Andreus could pull a crowd. Frankly I think we all deserve a bit more credit than "it's because he was hot and packing."

Andreus had an occasional (and rather annoying) habit of posting pictures of "himself" for only a few minutes. He would post a link to a picture, and the picture would be removed after a few minutes.

On one occasion, I recognized the picture he posted as that of a little-known amateur male model, who had once done a small series of outdoor nudes.

It didn't strike me at the time as evidence that he was a fake. Lots of people who are not comfortable with their own appearance post pics of other people which they claim to be their own. It does not mean that they are not real people, with real lives and important things to say about the world.

But, it does fit with the impression that much (or even all) of his persona was not what he claimed it to be.

I wonder why the administration here doesn't require proof of death to place a member into the Garden? There are probably a thousand or more deceased members on this website and we don't even know about their deaths.
