Tell me more about Andreus

Ah Andreus, still controversial and beloved after all this time. I miss him. RIP.

One thing I never knew was how to pronounce his name. I always said "Ahn-dray-us" but I know others said "An-drews".

When he spoke his name, he never spoke with the 's' on the end. he dropped s all the time when speaking, something to do with the dialect of arabic he learned being northern Iraqi. I don't remember the whole story.

It wasn't that he couldn't make the sound, it just sounded a bit lispy. He was paranoid about sounding "gay" so he generally left them off when speaking. If I had to write out how he pronounced his name it would be something like n- DRE-u.

His nickname was pronounced DRE-u, and many people mistook that to be Drew in Boston when they heard it spoken quickly. He himself used Drew when he was writing to people that weren't close to him. He wrote Dreu when he was comfortable with people knowing his ethic heritage... usually his friends in emails and things like that.

I miss him too.

Surely an Internet search should bring up something besides facebook or blogs - that anyone can fake.

Or someone in this thread could provide links from the University, Boston AIDS organizations, or maybe something from Zografou, Greece along the line of an obituary, a memorial, or even articles about the brother’s arson case.

With the full name, Andreas Thanos, it really shouldn’t be too difficult to prove the man’s existence and/or demise, and put the matter to rest permanently.



BTW, @ Telstra, it seemed like everyone in Dreu’s ‘real’ life had anger issues. The ‘boyfriend’, Kahill, was temporarily banned a few times before he was banned form this site permanently.

Are you saying that Enchanted is Andreus? I don't beieve that. I reject the notion that he would have done that to his friends in Boston. They have similarities to be sure, but no.

Enchanted is not Drew.

I didn't know him, but he sounds fascinating.

From what I've read thus far of you guys' accounts of him, he sounds like one of those tragic stories along the lines of Joey Steffano. Outwardly appears as he has life by the balls and has it all, while suffering from all kinds of inner demons people would find hard to believe.

I try to remember guys like Joey when I catch myself looking with contempt at guys who I'm jealous of, when I think they have it all. Life isn't always greener in their shoes.

Indeed. To borrow an old phrase, He was his own worst enemy. He went to great measures to use his looks and smarts to distract from the inner turmoil. I didn't start this thread, but I decided to participate because I knew him personally, and as I said in my second post, the truth would make both his detractors and his friends angry.

The truth is that he was a normal flawed human with failings who came online to try to figure things out. He used the religion thing as an excuse but I believe that the effects of his life and his health took his looks away, and without that, he couldn't exist.

For me, the question I have is... Did he fast and refuse medication for religion, or because he was just done... because he was losing his looks. The last few times I spoke to him, he was preoccupied with looking "hideous" due to surgeries and weight loss. Another quaint little reality that people will have to deal with is that he always lied about his age. He always took five years off of his age when asked how old he was.

That is MY inner turmoil with him and what he did those last months.

I read this witch hunt stuff in Hot topics often, and frankly, it's why I avoid the HT forum at times. There are so many threads full of you're really this person and all that. This person is a sock puppet and that person is a troll... it seems to be a forum obsession. It seems kind of petty and useless. How obsessed do you have to be with this forum to want to track people five to six years later?

It's unhealthy just to have that level of obsession with online interactions. To think about this stuff for years, and to mentally track it when the person is basically a stranger in another part of the country or world ? It seems like a creepy online obsession

Just yesterday Seghers deleted his profile and already people are saying he deleted in the past and will come back. I think people are used to reading certain dynamics within the forum, and when people occupy certain roles, they take on the last person's mantle so to speak, in the group dynamic. Then there are suspicions of that person being the last when really they are probably just similar people

There are plenty of reasons why we all hide our real names here, I would imagine most of them revolve around the fact that employers use the internet to check up on applicants and employees. This is a gay porn site, after all.

He was 36 when he died. The details of the funeral are not for public discussion. I posted them once in anger, and a moderator removed it. There are certain personal details that are against the rules for other people to post, and since he is not here to give permission, they protect him as if he was a member for the most part. That is an admirable thing, to know that even if you leave here, your personal information is kept private.

Once again, considering the nature of the forum, it seems to me that their most important aspect of customer service is discretion.

I will say this... I attended the memorial here. It was a private memorial at a friends home, a remembrance because of difficulty with the disposal of his remains. Does it make sense to believe that a bunch of gay men could pack up, me in a wheelchair, to go to Split on a two days notice, to go to Croatia to observe his body being interred next to his mothers, when the man burying his son is a raging homophobe who hated Americans.

I appreciate the fact that you valued Drew as much as we did, Johann. The good parts of the internet always make the craziness worthwhile. I think you are an example of the good part of the internet as shown in this thread.

Concerning the funeral, I hope I didn't come across as if I wanted to ask for the details--that would have been ghoulish.

The part of it that concerned me was the fact that his father treated various JUBbers very rudely while Andreus still lived. On one occasion, one JUBber got shouted at on the phone, and then hung up on.

So I began to wonder if his father allowed anyone to attend...

That sounds like the guy. The father is a piece of work. None of us were allowed access to Drew when he moved in as next of Kin, and legally nothing could have been done.

Andreus is dead. For whatever reasons, be he a construct or a person, he is dead. Let him die. If you want to have a real talk about who he was that's fine. If you want to have a fantasy obsession conversation about whether JUB's Elvis faked his own death, you are going out on a big limb, just because of all the people that it would involve being part of it.

Two people here have given me info that I did not have because you guys knew a side of the guy that I didn't. We are getting into Birther, Flatworld, dead Elvis, conspiracy, and at some point you have to ask.... Why would so many people be bringing different parts of him to show each other here that the others hadn't seen? How big of a conspiracy does this have to be to make sense?

And there are people who have been around here long enough to know that we're separate people considering my boyfriends old user name was "Michael_Luc".

I think the people making accusations need to look at some of their own behavior. It would seem you want the courtesy of trust extended to you in YOUR situaton, but of course, are unwilling to do so for others... and the Hot Topics witch hunt goes merrily on.

Andreus transgressed a line within the muslim faith that precluded his right to be buried with other Muslims. He had a tattoo on his shoulder and one on his leg. They refused to give him last rites. They decided he was unclean.

His final abandonment was that in death, the one thing he held most dear to him, his religion, rejected even his dead corpse. His father buried him next to his mother, on private property of an abandoned house that the family owns.
