Tell me your driver license/learning to drive story

San Jose California...the famous "one armed man" who everyone feared...I got the fucker even though I had an elaborate plan to avoid him...it backfired Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

It lasted about 3 minutes. I went through a blind intersection too fast. I automactically flunked.

If he was a pirate..it would explain a lot actually....

My written one.....

Let's go back to 2012. I flunked the written AND the eye test. BUT....I was lucky because I can read people pretty well and the lady was exhausted dealing with the people in front of me. I used humor and talked her into asking me one of the questions over....I passed....

I then assured her I never drive with one hand over my eye and told her to let me read that bad boy with both eyes...I rocked it. I made her laugh....

I got my license. Thing is....I got an automatic renewal for 20 or more years as I had a clean record so I never had to go in and take any tests .....

I just never really felt comfortable driving until a couple years ago. They don't offer drivers ed anymore because the school district are lazy assholes. So I had no problem being a pedestrian and using public transportation. And I still to this day prefer to use public transportation and hate driving a car, and fuck anyone who has a problem with that.

But long story short, I had to get my license because I received an offer for a job I couldn't refuse and the bus routes to and from were too complicated.

I passed my permit test the first try twice. Even though friends and family would try to help me, I failed the behind the wheel test five times. The first two times I made illegal lane changes. The third time I did a rolling stop. The fourth and fifth times I called bullshit because they said I couldn't parallel park which I could. But the sixth time I got a really cool guy who didn't give a fuck and passed me. I'm now a newly licensed driver with no accidents to name so far. But I'm a really good driver IMO. I just love being able to ride the 110 freeway. So nice. <3

I took drivers ed. at school as it was mandatory to get a license, I was 15 at the time.

I did well at the book work, it was a short course followed with a number of hours on the road. The on the road part was horrible.
The instructor was a high school teacher, there were 2 students per car. The boy who was in my car had been taught to drive by his dad and was just going through the motions so he could get a license. He drove for 1 and 1/2 hours, then it was my turn.

I had no experience behind the wheel, the instructor could not just set back and chill as he did for the first part of his day, I scared the hell out of him I guess.

He sat next to me yelling and complaining, this made me nervous, that made me drive worse. If my memory serves me correctly this went on for about 2 or 3 months, 2 days per week.

I did pass the drivers ed road test, then after 90 days I had to take the real road test, back then we went to the police station and an officer would take us out in our car, I had a beat up 1959 Ford, it had little upholstery, lots of rust and dents and no turn signals. The passenger compartment would get smoky as well so we had to leave the windows down, this worked out well as I had to use hand signals:-).

I passed the test and promised the officer that I would get a better car.

I can't drive. :O I have a license, but I get panic attacks from the mechanical Jacobins. No horseless carriages for me.

No...everyone is a natural driver ;)
Not everyone is a racer but we all can drive. ^^

Concur.

As for driving, I took the written test as soon after my 14th birthday as I could. My maternal grandmother patiently taught me the driving part in parking lots, on back roads, and out on the bypass. She had angina at the time, so I really cannot fathom how she survived it. My break foot was terrible. Poignantly, she had also taught me to ride a bike when I was around 6.

I passed the driving portion after my 16th birthday on the first try and never looked back -- loved the independence that a car provided, even an old clunker.

Today, I notice that I rather enjoy mass transportation, as it allows me to peoplewatch, which I love.

Driver's education was an option in my school but not all that important if you weren't insured, and we couldn't afford it at the time.

Very nice grandma.

Ditto.
I have my license until 2016 but my mileage is really poor. I rather hit ********** bus to go places.
But I just think driving as a phase everyone must master because that's how our society shaped. The option whether you want to drive or not is depend on the owner of license. Nevertheless, he must pass the test.
I personally just driving when Im about to impress a date or so...'think how cumbersome to impress someone if you always take public transportation (gay/straight) ^^

OMG y'all smart and dont need guidance in driving hue-hue ^^

You must be a cool kid in your class Sixth. Were you a jock? Pretty late knowing you're gay? ;)
*My parallel parking done in Diamond parking lot aka I rather pay than doing parallel parking, same here ^^

I knew I was not straight as soon as puberty hit. I dated girls until I was 18. Then I couldn't do it anymore.
