Telsa runs into same Obamacare problem: Republicans are against free markets

What an incredibly unusefull clip, they spend 4 minutes talking about whatever the problem is without ever actually explaining WHAT the problem is. Best I could gather from conversation is that there is some problem with licensing of Tesla dealerships?

^^ Maybe this will help.

Many states have restrictive auto sales laws saying an auto manufacturer cannot sell direct to the public.

With New Jersey taking action to ban Tesla from selling its cars there, the Garden State has joined with Arizona, Texas, Virginia and Maryland in making law only an auto-dealers association could love. Tesla has a presence in those states, but its “stores” are really nothing of the sort. They are instead “galleries” where its representatives are not salespeople and cannot tell you what the car costs, nor can they actually help you purchase one.

The state's [New Jersey] motor vehicle commission blocked Tesla's ability to sell electric cars through its own retailers, so Tesla CEO Elon Musk is urging buyers to visit the company's locations in New York City and Philadelphia.

However, in those states you may still purchase on-line.

So much for the great invisible hand.

... the topic of the thread is a lie. How are republicans against the free market?

Seems more an example of the problems with government regulation overall, I'm sure these regulatory systems started out to protect the public from predatory car dealers and was quickly corrupted by the powers that be in the industry seeking to use those self same regulatory systems to give them a benefit over their competitors. Its a problem bigger than any one party.

So is the proposed solution to this to deregulate the automotive industry?

You're sure of that are you, I'm sure that car dealers paid some politicians to get monopolies.

Republicans are forcing the middle man onto consumers, with markups, kickbacks, the works. Republicans in Jersey are refusing to allow Tesla to sell their products to consumers = Republicans against free markets, republicans against competition.

The thread is a hoax and gives wrong and misleading information.

Somebody get Jack a juice box, he's getting fussy.

Well it is slightly misleading in trying to paint this as a Republican plot of some sort. This is established auto companies using their money and influence to manipulate regulation in their favor. History shows they can and will use that influence on both parties. Most industry lobbying is spent on both parties with the amounts being spent on one or the other varying with how the two parties shift in power from one election to the next.

The thread head is against the CofC. It promotes a lie.

Hoax? Hardly.

Overstated? Yes, but you're familiar with that. Jealous that someone is treading on your territory?

Tesla should be allowed to market as they please. If they want to build a giant airship filled with cars and drift from place to place, that should be fine as well.

I think the "regular" automakers are a bit scared of Musk.

Still no proof that this is a republican caused problem.

Please show how republicans are against the free market in this case or change the heading.

turns out, it may actually be the Democrat-controlled State Legislature that's keeping Tesla out of the state.

"I'm not pushing Tesla out; the state Legislature did," Christie said. "They passed a law — which is still on the books — which says if you want to sell cars in this state, you must go through an authorized dealer. My job is not to make the laws, it's to enforce the laws. And Tesla was operating outside the law."

Christie said he tried to warn the company that they were breaking the law.

"I have no problem with Tesla selling directly to customers, except that it's against the law in New Jersey"

still seems like an awful lot of fuss for a $100,000 car that only the 1% will be able to afford regardless.
