Glen Casada, the Republican Speaker of the Tennessee House, recently announced his plans "to resign as speaker in coming weeks". Speaker Casada announced his plans after the Republican House Caucus held a 45-24 no-confidence vote against the Speaker.

Rep. Glen Casada, Cade Cothren sent sexually explicit text messages about women [The Tennessean]

Speaker Casada's fall from grace came after allegations that he sent a series of text messages that:
  • solicited oral sex and naked photos from a female intern,
  • suggested he would make sexual advances toward another intern,
  • sought sex with a lobbyist;
  • referred to another woman as a “cunt”; and
  • called Metro police officers who gave him parking tickets “rent a cop cocksuckers.”

Other text messages shows Casada joking with an aide about whether two young women were of legal age for sexual relations.

That exchange occurred on August 21, 2016, when Cade Cothren, then the press secretary for the Tennessee House Republican Caucus, sent Casada a video of two young women dancing in his apartment. At the time, Casada was the caucus chairman.

"R they 21?" Casada asked..

"It only takes 18," the aide responded, adding a smile emoji.

Casada's answer: "Lol!!! And true!"

Speaker Casada also appointed a committee chair who had past allegations of sexual assault. Casada then used an employee to write news stories that attempted to harass the women who had made the sexual assault allegations.

Casada's Chief of Staff also had his own text message problems which included texts with his boss about having sex with a woman in the bathroom at a dinner (paid for by a Casada PAC) at a chicken restaurant named "The Party Foul":

After bragging about sex at Party Fowl, former chief of staff's tab may have been paid by Glen Casada donors [The Tennessean]
“Just so y’all know, I did f--k (woman’s name) in the bathroom at party fowl,” Cothren said in a text message to others, including Casada. “Will send pictures later.” The Tennessean is not naming the woman.

Prior to the announcement of his planned resignation, Speaker Casada had blamed his troubles on a Democratic smear campaign against him.

This behaviour seems to be happening much more often or, at least, it's being 'exposed' much more often since Trump gave it his personal mark of approval.

And some people argue there is no such thing as toxic masculinity.

Politics seems to attract sociopaths.

The thing that seems to be the most shocking about these increasingly common incidents is that there doesn't seem to be any shame, remorse or haste to resign after the evidence comes out.

In this case, The Tennessean stayed on this story and published more and more evidence until the Tennessee Republicans (to their credit) forced Casada's hand. Until then, there was no indication that he was going to resign. And even after the vote of no confidence by his party, he only said that he "intends to resign in the future".

Lest we forget, a couple of years ago, the married Alabama Governor got caught having an affair with a lobbyist (with audio recordings) (see JUB thread Republican Governor Arrested) and it took a couple of years for him to resign.

The Texas State Attorney General has been under felony indictment for 4 years and was not only elected in 2014, he was re-elected in 2018.

And in spite of it all, the evangelical support for these guys (at least the male evangelicals) remains.

Oh spare us. Trump has nothing to do with it.

He has EVERYthing to do with it and, unless you've had your head up your ass for the past few years, he's had everything to do with a lot of what has been happening here in Canada. (Hint: Look at your premier!!)

EDIT: By the way, in the second video, he used Trump's own words.
