Where are all the *cough* mainstream *cough* Republicans denouncing this? This is exactly what happens when you pander to racists and nutjobs.

Why bother you don't denounce the nutjobs on the left and there are plenty of them. You think the Democrats don't pander to racists on the other side, really. When have you ever said anything remotely that doesn't follow in lockstep with the Democrats. Conservatives publicly aggressively disagreed with both Bushes when they were in power. I don't see much of that type of intellectual honesty from the other side of the aisle.

Can ou please provide cites of when "conservatives" disagreed with George WTC Bush WHILE HE WAS IN OFFICE? Thanks. Oh, don't worry -- I'll remind you when you fail to do so, if necessary; otherwise you can simply retract your assertion in advance.

Just to name one that is widely known, immigration reform with amnesty and workers permits to allow illegals to work in the US legally. And for good measure McCain was on the wrong side of that one too and they both lost because of a groundswell of anger not unlike the current one concerning Health Scare. In fact immigration reform is a twofer because McCain was on the wrong side also. If not for conservative outrage the bill would have been law a long time ago. Reagan tried the same thing while he was in office, it was one of his few failures. He believed if you let the ones already here stay you could control the inflow. It did not and actually made things worse.

Wow you caught me disagreeing with Reagan as well I guess that's a triple.

I was in Texas this past weekend. At a red light, I saw a pick-up truck and on the back was a bumper sticker of the Texas flag with the words secede over it. I was like, "Oh, come on!"

But you know, it's kinda like when many anti-Bush people were like, "Screw this, I'm moving to Canada." The only difference is that this secession thing is an actual movement. But the feelings are the same

But really, what happened to bipartisanship, from both sides? Change happens gradually and with agreements, not through a one-sided way.

Why were the rightwingers so up in arms about immigration reform?

And I'll believe Texan secessionists when I see them burn the US flag. Then, and only then, will I take their concerns seriously.

Because we tried a very similar policy while Reagan was in office and it was an unmitigated failure. We don't need to do it again if it didn't work the first time. I have stated my disagreement with Reagan twice tonight and it is hurting me to have to do it. Please don't make me do it again. Even the best president of my lifetime made some mistakes and if I didn't acknowledge that it would make me intellectually dishonest. Damn it being conservative and having to stick to principles is difficult at times.

Since there are "plenty" of examples I look forward to your research, links, cites, videos, and other evidence to prove your assertion in your upcoming thread starters.

Examples:

Janene Garofalo
In April 2009, Garofalo drew widespread criticism when she denounced the Tea Party protests, saying: "Let's be very honest about what this is about. This is not about bashing Democrats. It's not about taxes. They have no idea what the Boston Tea Party was about. They don't know their history at all. It's about hating a black man in the White House. That is racism straight up. This is nothing but a bunch of teabagging rednecks."[11] In response to the controversy Garofalo has continued to criticize Tea Party protesters, and has been reported to open her shows with "If there's any tea baggers here, welcome, and as always, white power."[12]

Bill Maher
in which he agreed with guest conservative political commentator Dinesh D'Souza that the 9/11 terrorists were not cowards. He then went on to say, "We have been the cowards lobbing cruise missiles from 2,000 miles away. That's cowardly. Staying in the airplane when it hits the building, say what you want about it, it's not cowardly."

Jeremiah Wright
“In the 21st century, white America got a wake-up call after 9/11/01. White America and the western world came to realize that people of color had not gone away, faded into the woodwork or just ‘disappeared’ as the Great White West kept on its merry way of ignoring black concerns.” (magazine article)

“Racism is how this country was founded and how this country is still run!…We [in the U.S.] believe in white supremacy and black inferiority and believe it more than we believe in God.” (sermon)

“Barack knows what it means living in a country and a culture that is controlled by rich white people. Hillary would never know that. Hillary ain’t never been called a nigger. Hillary has never had a people defined as a non-person.”

“Hillary is married to Bill, and Bill has been good to us. No he ain’t! Bill did us, just like he did Monica Lewinsky. He was riding dirty.” (sermon)

OK, first off the secessionist wing nuts are completely mistaken. In the beginning, Texas was indeed the only state that had a right to secede. But then it did, in 1860, and the resulting military annexation of Texas kinda put an end to that.

Second, there isn’t some huge grass roots movement anywhere that I can see for secession.

Third, we have a huge Hispanic population that’s getting bigger all the time, and they came to Texas wanting to become Americans, they certainly aren’t on board with this.

Fourth, Texas would tank horribly on it’s own with a hostile US to the north, and a hostile Mexico to the south. Why would Mexico be hostile? Look at what else these nut jobs want.

Fifth, the US would never let Texas go. Secession now would mean what secession the last time around meant, war. Do the crazies want a war? Sure, but the rest of the people here are not about to go along with a plan that would see Texas a smoldering ruin.

You never see the rest of us on TV because rational people don’t make for good ratings.

Perry pandered to these idiots because his own party is after his hide. Then the talking heads went off on them because they made good ratings.

You know, and I’m putting this here though it can be said of a lot of threads. Defending your party by saying someone else is guilty too, doesn’t make a point. It’s an admission that you can’t refute the point.

We’re talking about Texan Nutcase Secessionists, if you want to talk about someone else, that’s another topic, and it in no way mitigates the sins of republicans, or Texan Nutcase Secessionists.

If you steal a candy bar, you are not made innocent because someone you don’t like stole a coke.

Anyone know what % of Texans want to leave the USA? I couldn't find a poll.

This subject is really just so much hot air.

I haven’t looked for a poll, and I don’t know, but I do know a lot of conservative Texans of both parties and none of them are calling for secession.

Anyone with half a brain understands what an economic and military fiasco trying to secede would turn into.

Frankly, there’s a lot of racism involved here:

…if AMERICA is going to be run by a negro, I want no part of that…

How many Hispanics or Black people or Asians (yes there are some significant Asian minorities here) do you see at those rallies?

If there was the slightest chance in hell for actual secession, most of the people screaming for it would run for the hills. They certainly wouldn't pick up their guns and head for the border.

Ha, I have no idea. TX-Beau is apparently from Texas and said that the number of secessionists is small. I'm curious about the response to this... and the same to Alaska.

My family's been Texan since it was Mexico. In the past twenty years or so, there's been a huge influx of people from the Midwest, which is what essentially gave rise to the republican influence in Texas. Families like mine are Yellow Dog Dems all the way, see, they haven't forgotten the last time that Texas seceded.

But if your Texan identity goes back no further than your dad from Iowa, it's easy to scream secession, you haven't been raised on stories of what that actually meant.

Then there are the ones who're just idiots.

The future of Texas politics is Hispanic, they'll be the next big demographic shift in Texan political power. Which is why what the Texas Republicans said about Sotomayor was completely idiotic.

GOMR asked for examples of nut jobs on the left and I provided him with the examples he requested. I have repeatedly expressed my differences in policy with the current Republican Party and the need for a viable conservative movement in a third party. I would love to close it down tomorrow and replace it with the Libertarian party. I would then like to see the fair tax implemented and have the federal budget audited. By private sector non government employees. Common sense and integrity should be mandatory to fill these positions.'

Id this were done the tea party folks and the secession folks from Texas would move on. These things are happening because Washington D.C. is F.U.B.A.R. AND they are sick of seeing their hard earned money being wasted.

He asked for examples because you said this:

Why bother you don't denounce the nutjobs on the left and there are plenty of them. You think the Democrats don't pander to racists on the other side, really. If you want to talk about nutcase liberals, start a thread, we’ll all come over. The above is not a point, it’s a dodge.

They wouldn't go back to Mexico, they'd fight the secessionists for the right to be Americans.

It bothers me in the extreme when conservatives hate on these people who came here because they took us at our word, and believed in the American Dream.

Texas won't secede from the United States. All this is, is nothing more than a ploy to the wingnut constituents who are screaming for secession. Politicians are simply telling them what they want to hear to get elected. After that, they will string them along and claim that they "tried to find a legality to allow them to secede, but were unable to".

Honestly, I wish these whiny bastards would just leave. If they want to continue living life in the 1900's, then more power to them. Let their roads crumble. No Medicare and No Social Security for their Seniors, either. Their immigration problem .... again, all on them. Not a penny from the United States. Then, we'll see how long they last.

Hmm. Is it that he is half black or that he leans far left politically and Texas is mostly conservative?

I'd say it's both. Most of them already hate progressive ideas in the first place, but to have a black man in charge and leading that progressive movement, it's the white supremacy apocalypse.

Well over due in my opinion.:D

P.S. Remember, I'm speaking of those conservatives that happen to be racist, not those fine neo-cons that just like to say "no" to everything and are not racist.:-)

I saw this on Hard Copy yesterday and thought it was just another group of Texas crazies that want to seceed from the US. There are sites that say that Texas can seceed, but, here is another one that I believe is true.
At first when Texas rejoined the US after the Civil War, there was talk that there was an agreement that Texas and only Texas could seceed. But here is a site that has the Supreme Court decision showing that Texas could not seceed.

Can Texas Secede from the Union? No.

by: Karl-Thomas Musselman

Austin American Statesman reporter Ken Herman asked Gov. Rick Perry on tape if a date had been set yet for Texas to secede from the Union, per his comments from yesterday.

"There's a lot of different scenarios. We've got a great union. There's absolutely no reason to dissolve it. But if Washington continues to thumb their nose at the American people, you know, who knows what might come out of that. But Texas is a very unique place, and we're a pretty independent lot to boot."

So, I just have to agree that Perry is as nutty as a fruitcake also.

Now I ran across this article from alternet.org about the meeting of the mindless on the Capitol steps.

http://www.alternet.org/politics/14...cessionists_rally_at_tx_capitol_/?page=entire

"We Hate the United States": Secessionists Rally at TX Capitol

By Forrest Wilder, Texas Observer. Posted September 1, 2009.

"Sovereignty or Secession" rally in Austin draws a crowd, but GOP Gov. Rick Perry, who has encouraged the right-wing fringe, was nowhere to be found.

You need to read the article and you will come across some of the nuts. In particular:

--snip--
Instead of Perry or Creighton, the protesters had Larry Kilgore, a “Christian activist” and candidate for governor who has endorsed executions for homosexuals;

Now you can see what we are up against. Perry for Governor, Kilgore for Governor or Hutchinson for Governor.
All three of them have questionable sanity, in my book.

I love this post, you are completely correct.

I remember back in the 70s there was a group from West Texas, in the Davis Mountains, that formed the "Republic of Texas" and tried for secession. Didn't work then and it won't work now.

However, in regards to the Latino population, there is a possibility they would favor seceeding to Mexico. There isn't any group wanting to do that that I've heard of, but it would be more likely than these white Texans could run a country. I saw one comment to an article where they wanted GW to be president of Texas. Lord help us!!!!

Anyone know what % of Texans want to leave the USA? I couldn't find a poll.

I googled "what is the percentage of Texans wanting to seceed?" and found these:

In Texas, 31% Say State Has Right to Secede From U.S., But 75% Opt To Stay

huffingtonpost.com — A new poll out Friday shows that, should Texas Gov. Rick Perry decide the time is right for his state to secede, he might not have much support. Seventy-five percent of Texans would like to stay in the union, according to Rasmussen . However, a sizable minority would be with him: 18% would vote ...

Yes, Latin American is full of well run countries.

Yes, Latin American is full of well run countries.

I put that in my post because Mexico would have a better government than these "white" Texans could ever hope to have.

Let Texas secede. It will become a Mecca for Republicans and right wing extremists and they all can move there.

My God, can you imagine what a country that would be?! Cheney can become Supreme Emperor, his court will be populated by Ann Coulter, Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, Pat Robertson, Newt Gingrich, Sarah Palin and the Republican Senators and House will flock there.

The only TV stations will be Fox News and the 700 Club. Right wing extremist propaganda 24 hours a day.

Anti-choice, anti-gay, wealthy white males will run Texas. Their wives will be stay at home Moms..... the children home schooled. Everyone will carry a loaded gun. Road rage will be settled by bullets. The death penalty won't have any opposition so let them fry.

The coastlines will be dotted with oil rigs (drill baby drill). The pro business, anti-environment people will have the say in all matters so pollution will fill the air, water and land just like Nicolae Ceauşescu's Romania.

These silly organized Tea parties will become a thing of the past in Texas, so the taxes on the wealthiest will be 0%. There will be no money for infrastructure so bridges, roads, schools, hospitals will decay and crumble.

Half of the New Texans won't have access to health care, but who cares about them anyway? God forbid we have a "Socialized" health care plan that's affordable to all! Wouldn't you rather suffer and die wrapped in the Texas "Freedom" flag!?

To muster up New Texas patrioism, their leaders will fabricate a war with an imaginary enemy, pointing a finger at the newest Bogeyman. War is good business and helps kill off needless and unwanted "untermensch" of both factions.

Yes..... let Texas go...... good riddance.

I used to like you.

No please! We had the repug invasion in the 70s and haven't been able to get rid of them. Let's send them to an Island off the coast of Costa Rica.
