These are ignorant asses who are reacting out of anger. It would be hilarious if John Stewart actually got someone to go to some of these people doors with a moving van and people dressed in uniforms saying we received your petition, it has been granted but I hate to inform you that the USA owns this state so you will have to vacate in 24 hours. The looks alone would be worth it.

The president apparently has promised to review any voter petition that has more than 25,000 signatures on it.

Texas hit 64,000 yesterday, but Gov Perry has indicated the state of Texas is declining to take legal action. If the people that signed that petition want to secede, they have to get rid of Perry and replace him with someone who is more secessionist than him.

Good luck on that one.

It would seem that the Texas Gov't has decided to also go forward with the affordable care act. Perry doesn't want to lose Texas's place at the Teat of Federal funds.

Who would have thought that Mr Secessionist Perry would decide to not support the admittedly foolish petition because he wants the benefits of Obamacare.

Priceless.

The petition will not be put on the ballot for a referendum vote by Perry's exec decision.

I thought Perry was one of the forerunners of Texas seceding when the POTUS was first elected?

presidential elections have a tendency to make morally pliable politicians change sides and beliefs. It's called getting your bread buttered.

Federal law requires a 72 hour period. :D

You people are assuming that Perry has a moral, but you don't realize that he probably left it in a desk drawer somewhere.

Texas politicians have a tradition of hyperbole - one of the best at it, and certainly the wittiest, was Ann Richards.

After she lost, she did this Doritos commercial that consisted solely of her sitting on the corner of a desk in a repo of the governors office, eating chips - that's all; then just before it ended, she looked at the camera and said:

"...the Cowboys never lost when I was Governor..."

My bad One would think they would already be ready to leave. I would think if you put enough time into signing a petition to secede you would already be ready to go through with it lol.

I say let Texas go along with Mississippi, Alabama and Kentucky.

Why would we want to go anywhere with Mississippi, Alabama and Kentucky?

Y'all talk like Texas is the backwoods, but let me remind you that what you are seeing is the political class, Texas is the second most populous state in the union and we have a very diverse population that is underrepresented in our politics, and this is quite deliberate. People here who would vote dem or other don't vote a lot of times because there is no one encouraging them to do so.

Someone up-thread mentioned raw numbers, well, there is a huge well of non-voters here who could be persuaded to be voters given some encouragement, why should they vote Dem, when there are no Dems around?

The USA won't let Texas leave.

It would seem this time, though, that the asshats had their bluff called. Go away and get no healthcare.

Perry knew what he needed to do....lol

I am ready to vote to divide the country. The US is committed to a downward spiral economically and politically. Perhaps part of the country could avoid being dragged down. Alas it won't happen, but i would vote for ir.

While there are a lot of Pubs who ARE idiots, Perry has proven not to be an idiot on the subject of his own survival - when he was posturing about ACA the first time I suspected he'd cave, if for no other reason than sooner rather than later the Latinos and African Americans hereabout were gonna figure out that ACA will benefit them the most.

We're not going with Alabama and Mississippi! Y'all blue states may feel obligated to pay for them but that shit doesn't fly here!

LOL
