Texas GOP Platform Calls For Imprisonment of Homosexuals

Question what happens to those Gay Republicans in the and out of the closet?

Question what happens to those Gay Republicans in the and out of the closet?

Gay Republicans have no voice in the Texas Republican Party. They have denied convention display space to the Log Cabin Republicans for years.

The Texas Republican Party is really just another name for the religious political extremists. The Southern Baptists of Texas are the Texas Republican Party at prayer.

Question what happens to those Gay Republicans in the and out of the closet?

Well, I was told right here in this forum that when GW Bush pushed for a constitutional amendment prohibiting same sex marriage that it was because pushy gays had demanded too much.

So those Gay Republicans are probably blaming pushy gays right now for this as well.

I will be in Corpus Christi as well. I'm eager to see what the Democratic Party platform ends up looking like.

Me too, if you've never been a part of the Resolutions Committee at the Texas State Democratic Convention as a Delegate, it's a spectacle to behold.

Proof that even some Texas Democrats would sign on to the "Anti-Gay" aspect of the Texas GOP's Platform any day. :grrr:

I'm looking forward to sharing that experience with you! :D

And I'm also looking forward to sharing what's left of some fresh Gulf Seafood! (*8*)

That is abhorent and there is no defense of such bigotry.

However, maybe my reading skills have failed me. It would seem Jeb and Cletus are asking for a law to make it a felony to issue a license to marry to same sex couples. Again I could not disagree more but it does not make homosexuality illegal or a felony.

We would all do well to remove the hysterics from the objective...lol... news and from our discussions. Would we not?

You're having no such problems.

Texas has had their challenges lately with many of their elected Republicans.

If Election 2008 was truly a realignment election — in terms of the presidency — it won't be long before the GOP no longer finds the No. 2 most-populated state their safe haven.

go read it

up ta you ( world ova ) ans suburbia turn off ya tv ans go do somethin

Apparently YOU need to go read it! could you please point to me where in that Texas GOP platform it says that we should be imprisoned solely for being gay? It is certainly anti-gay marriage, but nowhere does it say we should be thrown in prison.

"Texas Sodomy Statutes – We oppose the legalization of sodomy. We demand that Congress exercise its authority granted by the U.S. Constitution to withhold jurisdiction from the federal courts from cases involving sodomy. "

You wouldn't be imprisoned for being gay, just for having sex.

And of course there's also "We also believe that no homosexual or any individual convicted of child abuse or molestation should have the right to custody or adoption of a minor child, and that visitation with minor children by such persons should be prohibited but if ordered by the court limited to supervised periods."

But that's not imprisonment, that's just removing children from their parents.

Well, anyone for having anal sex for that matter. Which is silly. What I do in my bedroom is no one's business but my own.

That's a pretty theory, but in fact Texas's anti sodomy laws targeted gays through their "Homosexual Conduct" - Chapter 21, Sec. 21.06 of the Texas Penal Code, designated it as a Class C misdemeanor when someone "engages in deviant sexual intercourse with another individual of the same sex," prohibiting anal and oral sex between members of the same sex.

Just to be sure everyone is aware… Section 21.06 was declared unconstitutional by Lawrence v. Texas, 123 S.Ct. 2472.
The [2003] decision elated gay rights advocates and outraged conservative groups that warned the decision set the stage for legalizing gay marriage. In a stinging dissent, Justice Antonin Scalia accused the majority of adopting the “homosexual agenda.”

Thank you opinterph.

Thank goodness there were people who understood that for the Court to overturn a law you actually need to make a case!

Also neglects the fact that while sodomy only refers to some aspects of heterosexual sex, sodomy law criminalizes all of homosexual sex. Therefore, it specifically demonizes gay people.

Yes. Texas Penal Code § 21.06 is titled "Homosexual Conduct" and includes all same-sex sexual contact. Sexual contact, according to the section on definitions (26.01, I believe), includes includes any erotic touching.

That section is still on the books. It has not been repealed even though it is unenforceable. It would be punishable by a fine were it still in effect. It's about on about the same level as a speeding ticket.

I tried to turn myself in once, and the police just laughed. They said they had to see me do it before they could arrest me. They declined to come with me to a private place.

^^

They use the same model as Grandfather Laws to disenfranchise a minority group without identifying them.
