If you aren't bothered about Texas, think again. It will spread where the school boards have Xtians, and they may fill the school board with their own kind to enable it. Has the tones of the old horror movie The Body Snatchers to me.

Education officials in the US state of Texas have adopted new guidelines to the school curriculum, which critics say will politicise teaching.

The changes include teaching that the UN could be a threat to American freedom, and that the Founding Fathers may not have intended a complete separation of church and state.

Critics say the changes are ideological and distort history.

However, proponents argue they are redressing a liberal bias in education.

I'm curious what the first day of American History 101 will sound like.

"Alright class, forget 90% of that shit they shovelled into your heads in High School, I'm going to teach you what really happened."

It appears that other religions have no say in this whatsoever. Their children are going to be taught Christianity whether they like it or not.

So much for 'Freedom of Religion'.

Hopefully, many teachers outside of TX will tell the kids "Here are the sections we need to correct. Redact this part with permanent ink, and take careful notes in my lectures."

*raises hand* I've experienced exactly that. I went to a conservative Christian high school in the early 80s, and when I got to a big research-oriented state university in 1984, I essentially unlearned and re-did everything that silly high school tried to teach me.

Up next on the agenda, the removal of the word "slaves" from the study of the slave trade. Apparently, they're concerned that leaving the word in casts America in a bad light.

I wish I were kidding.

Slavery isn't just an 'American' thing. Canada had slavery, too, as did most of the Commonwealth. I don't know why the US is so worried about it.

Not sure a lot of those Texas kids are gonna make it to college, considering the education they've had.

Rewriting history really isn't anything new. Most of the Paul Revere legend comes from a Longfellow poem and the Mayflower Pilgrims legend comes from another poem written by a woman who had never set foot outside of England.

the lesson here? never let born again christians run anything.

they have thumbed their noses to anyone who opposes their moves and members have flat out said it is a political decision on their part. the opposition has been vocal and vociferous but when you don't have the numbers on the board to beat their block votes?

now is the time to contact your elected officials and your school boards and tell them NOT to purchase the same books that texas will order.

as much as i hate to say it you all are going to have to isolate this educational nonsense to texas and we can only hope and pray that we can move these ideological nut jobs out of office before they fuck up anything more.

I know I haven't read the cirriculum first hand, but all I need to know is that church and state should be completely separated and the civil rights movement needs to be majorly focused on.

If they are going to water down those topics, then shame on them. That's a horrible disservice to students and America in general.

They're worried about anything that causes people to question. :)

^ No, we need free thinking folks on the ground in texas to oust those backward thinking morons out and restore unbiased education. With everyone leaving, it'll become like the Xtian taliban there soon.

I'm truly at a loss for words.

Who in there right minds thinks this makes sense?

Some call it faith, others call it ignorance.

Some call it science, others call it blasphemy.

I am rather waiting for some of our better known Texans to post here...
