Thad's Hockey Corner

Who knows what lengths I will go to?

Last night all 32 NHL teams played! Start times were staggered every 15 minutes. I did watch the early Flyers win over Pittsburgh on TV but was too tired to see the West Coast games.

I get emails from most US NHL teams. None of the Canadian ones, though, despite attending a Maple Leafs game last season. I was still surprised to get a personal email from a Seattle Kraken representative...I live in Pennsylvania, and I'm sure he doesn't know I've never seen the Kraken win in person.

Monday night I went to Pride Night at the Flyers. The atmosphere was fine. The game, not so much. The Tampa Bay Lightning beat the Flyers, 5-1. The Lightning scored in the first two minutes and never trailed.
I was happy to see my favorite player in the whole NHL, Braden Point of the Lightning, score a power play goal. And my second favorite Lightning player, Oliver Bjorkstrand, got an assist. They're both going to the Olympics in Italy next month, Point playing for Canada and Bjorkstrand for Denmark.

Thad, the Tampa Bay Lightning are playing the Boston Bruins tomorrow night in Raymond James Stadium, the Buccaneers' home playing field, for Florida's first outdoor hockey game. And strangely, the weather is cooperating, with temps expected to be near freezing.

This link gives the details, after you scroll past the Gasparilla festival weekend info, which is sort of Tampa's ersatz Mardi Gras-like festival with parades, etc.
