Just saw this commercial, thought I would post it to see what you guys think. Apparently there are a few different ones, but this is the only one I've seen on TV. Also, do you find the phrase "Thats so gay" offensive?

Side note- I love her, she cracks me up.:rotflmao:

I've never heard it around here, but I suspect I would speak up about it if I did.

It's not something I hear a lot. Several of my friends have worked on removing it from their vocabulary (which isn't easy if it's habit). Sometimes I come back with, "No, I'm gay. That's a [whatever]."

Think people should just be thick-skinned about it really, I think it's just the intention of how it's used. I understand the negative connatation attatched to saying "that's so gay" but really it's far to engraved into this generation's culture to try and weed it out. Like most sayings, it'll pass, it's just some of the leftover ignorance.

Love Wanda Sykes. Sadly its something I need to stop saying too D:

that's gay is nothing compared to "no homo" THAT is offensive.

I'll tell you, folks. "That's so gay" absolutely enrages me. And it doesn't take long for whoever says it to find out. I'm not as polite as Wanda Sykes. I try to be, but I'm not. Anyway, I've never had anybody say that twice within earshot of me.

healing Duck,

Shake those pin feathers and join the flock. That excuse about avatar being
in the soup, just won't fly.

Pluck up Draked one... if you really are fowl with the electronical type bird shit

I love that commercial. And how she's say "when you really say 'that's so gay', do you really know what you're saying? Knock it off!" I need to play that when I hear people say that's so gay.

It's about programming - how you were raised and what speech you choose to accept within your peer groups.

If you think it's okay to use the word "gay" or the "n" word or any other ethnic slur, just because your friends do, then you will go on using it wherever, to whomever and in whatever context you like.

Fact is, it's NOT okay. It's not something you should just learn to be thick-skinned about. Pisses me off when I hear people say that.

I wonder what you would think if your own heritage were being abused that way. If you were of Latin American descent and someone said, "oh, that's so ___!" (insert derogatory slur in the blank).

Wake up and think right, people! This isn't really a PC issue, so much as it is an issue of respect. If you don't have it for one group, I doubt you have it for anyone else. And if saying things like this makes you feel like a bigger man somehow, you must have a low opinion of yourself to have to do it at all.

Excellent post.:=D: I personally think a lot of closet cases throw around the phrase that's so gay.

Do I get offended when people say that? Nope, life is too short. And I'm really sorry to see Wanda Sykes turning into another one of those pains in the ass...

^^^ Insulting straight guys is kind of like insulting white people. There really isn't any name you can call them that's going to bother them that much...

SonofSlobone: I <3 you

If we're up in arms about people saying "That's so gay", why do we let them get away wiith "That's so lame"?

I've seen a few get annoyed by 'breeder,' but you're right. 'That's so straight' would fly right over his head.

I don't know. You know, 'lame' as a description of people has largely passed out of my vocabulary. I generally say, "he has trouble walking" or something like that. I have come to use 'lame' only to refer to ideas or expressions. I don't know that that makes it any better.

I still think 'lame' as an analogy for inadequate thought or expression is a more direct analogy than 'gay' is for second-rate. In the former case, the "lame" brain is said to be impaired so that it doesn't work like most people's in the same way that a "lame" person's legs keep him from getting around as easily. I can't think of a good reason to say that "gay" people are second-rate.

I think the people who are saying that they mean no offense when others say "that's so gay" are kidding themselves.

Or society still isn't fully accepting of gays. So when someone says "that's so gay" and they claim they don't mean to offend, don't believe the bullcrap.

If they truly didn't want to offend anyone, they wouldn't say it at all. My friends were kind enough to take it out of their vocabulary so as not to offend me.

And if anyone else cared to not offend others, they'd take it out of theirs, too.
