Talk about having too much money.
According to the "artist", the "work" which is called "Comedian", is not a joke but a reflection on we value. I guess he might have a point. If people value a banana duct taped to a wall that much, there's a real problem with some people values.

Viral banana artwork has sold again — this time for $6.24 million [CNN]

What a load of BS:
“This is not just an artwork,” Sun said in the press release. “It represents a cultural phenomenon that bridges the worlds of art, memes, and the cryptocurrency community. I believe this piece will inspire more thought and discussion in the future and will become a part of history.”

As the winning bidder, he will receive a roll of duct tape and one banana, as well as a certificate of authenticity and official instructions for installing the work. Prior to the sale, Sotheby’s confirmed to CNN that neither the tape nor, thankfully, the banana are the originals.

I don't have an issue with this.

It is an image. And a concept. And it will likely churn out at least the 6.5 million in fallout exposure.

WTF makes the Kardashians, or some other 'Influencer' or a sports figure or a host of other things 'valuable'.

At this point, the money is no matter. The price paid does what it is supposed to do. Try to shock people into some notion of what has value and what doesn't.

Anyone investing in Bitcoin or a host of other fake currencies, anyone hedging their billions in fake daVinci's...any rich person anywhere blowing off millions because it has no real value to them...there's the real story.

The buyer could have donated all of this to World Central Kitchen. And who knows? Maybe they do give a huge chunk of money to worth causes that address the basic needs of the poorest among us.

The best part is that this becomes an indelible part of the history of our age. something for the future to alugh at or about or to hang heads in shame.

How much can I get for a cabbage stuck to a canvas with Velcro?

Also don't know why people don't just call it out for what it is.

Money laundering.

Its new owner, crypto entrepreneur Justin Sun, will receive: a banana, a roll of duct tape, and instructions on how to combine them, including, crucially, “how to replace the banana”.…

Figures.

I believe the price paid includes a NFT

It's just a banana with tape on a wall nothing exciting

Did I hear someone say Banana?

I think it's utterly fabulous! (y)

A work of truly inspired genius!

So much artistry and talent involved in its creation.

Eat shit and die Michelangelo and DaVinci you talentless losers. (n)

I'm going to say that I think it is a very successful work of art.

I see so many memes and comments about it. It has done the job it set out to do. To provoke people into thinking about intention and meaning in art, the process of making works of art and the intellectual and corporeal value imposed on works of art.

^ but does that make it worth 6.24 million?

All part of the discussion.

If someone just bought this for the PR buzz to sell stuff...quite possibly.

But was Slavador Mundi, a painting only possibly of the school of daVinci and not by his own hand as evidenced by the glaring scientific flaw that he would not have made, worth 430 million?

And here is the owner eating his 6.24 million dollar piece of art.
