So why exactly is it fine for people in other countries today to live and follow oppressive regimes and backward society when it wasnt ok in the western world?

Again, whatever happened in the past is history, people have moved on and live in a more modern and free society today, why is it fine that other countries still have to put their citizens through the crap that the west had to deal with in the past?

The problem is that the idiots gain power over a country, and then use plenty of propoganda to brainwash their people into believing that it is right to kill gays and oppress women. People growing up in such a society absorb what they are taught and remain backwards. Change cannot happen without the law being fixed first, and even then it would take many many generations to remove the backwardness because the idiot parents are still teaching their kids to be backward idiots too.

If people can’t change why sweat it, change will never ever happen.

The discussion has taken many twists and turns. My two cents on this issue is that this sort of classification and discrimination is ugly to say the least. There is a fundamentalism issue but not just limited to Muslims but also Hindus, Jews and Christians.

But I will just write a short message to your op here.

I read an interesting article many months ago.
The Arab world consists of a huge population... yet aside from religous tracts the entire Arab world published fewer new books that Spain did last year.
They are backward for sure..
To think that a people that was so far advanced 1000 years ago and has made so many contributions to world culture and knowledge is so far behind the times makes me thing that it has to do with their govenrment and domination by religious extremists.

What a waste of an intelligent group of men and women.
It' sad for their people and for the rest of the world.... Who knows what the Arab world could contribute to science and industry if they were just let loose intellectually.... let them loose from the stupid restrictions of their governemnt and the control of those religious fanatics that seem to control them.
