The "Beard" Trend

Wow. Trimmed beard + modern briefs = could work.

Adam-von-rothfelder.jpg

The gay guy from Big Brother Canada has it. He's really cute, but would look better without it.

Amish beard + Granddad's 1940s y-front briefs = appalling.

^^ That's a 5 o'clock shadow, baby.

^ That must tickle.

Thirdly, I like where you went the nether wear comparison, but I don't think it's altogether fair, as I cannot see Exhibit Bs gingerbread.

Not really because facial hair is not a modesty issue, but you are right that male modesty today reflects backlash against gay normalization however subconscious it is. Growing up guys were never naked in the locker room for more than a second or two. Some even changed in the stalls.

If straights switched from speedos to long trunks and from tight jeans to baggy, either because thought they looked gay or because they thought they were attracting gay attention, I think the same subconscious feeling is causing some to cover up their good looks with beards.

If straights switched ...

Don't sweat over this new current fad for Old Testament Beards. The fad lasted for 25 years in the late nineteenth century and the crewcut, the Pompadour and the mop head look lasted 15 years this century.

But the current fad for Old Testament Beards will be shorter this time around because we've all got short attention spans now. :)

You can tell by the length of the sides that they're really not that brief.

I find it funny that all this beard/hair bashing is going on with no "issue", yet if this were a thread talking about shaving trends or ragging on the "smooth" looks...all hell would be breaking loose.

It's fair game to shit on hair, it seems.

So... Facial Hair... Cut, or Uncut ??? ;)

Are all gay guys with beards tops?

Is rimming better or worse with the Duck Dynasty look?

Do beards make someone 'straight acting' ??

... did I cover them all ?

I suppose the beard made some kind of resistence with air when running

Considering he's usually dressed like this, and camped out in front of the goal all game, I doubt it makes any difference. :)

sounds like a beginning. though this doesn't seem as "polarizing" as cut vs. uncut.

I'm just saying...it would've been World War fucking III in here if this was one of those 'smooth bashing' threads.

If something is preferred sexually by the majority of (some subset of) people at any given point of time, it's not just considered "standard" - it becomes "normal" and "natural". And if the percentage of people who prefer something sexually gets small enough, it moves into "fetish" territory. I don't know if we're quite to the point of "not shaving your body hair" being considered a "fetish", but if not, we're getting pretty close. :)

Burgers can be great, but they are even better with ketchup and mostard :p

In that case I suppose you are just being another beard hater :p

'Who cares for you?' said Alice, (she had grown to her full size by this time.) 'You're nothing but a pack of cards!'

Does anyone like the beard trend that's been going around for a while?

I think its the ugliest thing ever having a long beard i see so many cute guys and they have their face covered in beards. A well trimmed one is nice. I used to like the big nerdy glasses also but that got annoying as well.

I think long un-kept beards are gross, but a neatly trimmed beard is nice. I am sure it really depends on the individual of course. I bet it depends on your preferences too.

I love them too.

But the OP thread is a bad example. The real current fad (which I think Lex noticed) is these new long beards which are called Old Testament beards.

They suddenly became fashionable in the 1860s and suddenly disappeared again in the 1890s.

I've heard those called "patriarch" beards. The Russian Orthodox love them.

The caveman look is always grotesque, but I can see why the short beard trend cycles on and off.
Oh, shock...it only took 23 replies before the word "caveman" was mentioned. Not bad.

So long for reality to be acknowledged.

excuse you?

An untamed beard, allowed to grow totally naturally, is quite accurately described as a "caveman look". It may be kept cleaner, with shampoo and conditioner and whatnot, but it's still a caveman look. It demonstrates skill for caring for one's self a bit higher, perhaps, than that of a feral cat.

Why a human should choose that is hard to say -- but whatever reason one might have, it's still a caveman look.

Perhaps they want to look that way? It doesn't "demonstrate" anything, because you do not know what's going on in their head. Not everyone has to conform to your (or Altniwhatever's) views of what makes a man "attractive".

Reality my ass. Subjective viewpoint? check.

That was a nice justification at the "caveman" slur. that was just his way of throwing shade towards people who sport a look he finds unappealing. A basic putdown.
