How religious are you? Explanations below

I'm fairly religious, but Reconstructionist Judaism places emphasis on social justice and helping the community than it does on things like ritual. It's also a non-proselytizing religion, so it's less in-your-face than many other religions.

There's not much point in proselytizing in an inherited religion is there? Well, not strictly inherited, but I understood conversion to Judaism was rather a contentious topic amongst different branches...

Or that conversion isn't even accepted in the sense of "freely adopting a different theological view" but is more along the lines of "recognizing the pre-existing spark of Judaism within" when it is permitted at all.

Anyway, definitely not your door-to-door sign-here-and-get-a-free-calendar kind of religion...

Thanks everyone for the responses so far. ..|

Keep 'em coming.

I chose Spiritual, not religious.

I spent way, way, way too many years in the LCMS (The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod) school system being brainwashed to consider any other option.

The hypocrisy of the so-called Christian church has caused me to question it all.

I have my own ideas that I keep private. If others choose to worship in their way, fine.

Just quit cramming it down my throat. That goes for ALL religions, whether it be Islam, Christianity, Judaism, or Brittneyspearsism. JUST STFU!!

As I age, I'm finding a bit more truth in far older religions, including some of the beliefs of the Native Americans (which I am 1/16 th by genetics). Which I am in no position to debate as my understanding is quite limited. But as I find out more, it makes sense. (My Mom is currently dating a full-blooded Ojibwa gentleman, and she is learning more too...and shares with me her knowledge...)

What a bullshit poll.

You can be profoundly religious without going to a Christian church, or temple or mosque, or meeting house or whatever, every week.

...You can be profoundly religious without going to a Christian church, or temple or mosque, or meeting house or whatever, every week.
Reminds me of the phrase "Attending church regularly doesn't make you a Christian any more than standing in a garage makes you a car!"

Sanctified and living in the spirit of the Lord. I trust in my spiritual advisors and constantly search for signs that indicate which way I should go. It's hard to say when the holy ghost fell on me. I just know that when you stand in His presence, there must be excellence in all things. I endeavor to live in a manner that is pleasing to God first and man second. Spiritual teachings and practices have actually enhanced my sex life immeasurably.

I missed the point of this completely!

This is precisely why I phrased it the way I did below. See?
So I was wondering - how religious are JUBbers in general? Pick the one which describes you best, or closest, from the list above.

So you could in fact answer like this bright JUBber did:
ryuukie said:
I did none of the things listed under extremely religious, but I consider myself extremely religious.

Voila! Result.

This isn't my post. Read it again. You apparently missed the point. As usual. You either had to have a 'none of the above', or a qualifier that the poll was assuming that only Christians are or are not religious.

It is intellectually dishonest to ascribe words to someone as a quote.

And now you're trying to make it look like 'I meant to do that'. Infantile.

Your premise is jejune.

Aaaaaaaaaaaand here we go again.

I didn't miss the point - I covered everything worth covering, viz:

You, the public, are (choose an option):
-1. religious to a point, having a faith of some kind and ascribing everything to some degree to a higher power, and living your life in accordance with what you deem this higher power's wishes to be - if yes, you'll find something which describes you best somewhere in items 1-6 in the poll - done.
-2. agnostic, or close to - either 6 or 7 will do for you - done.
-3. You don't believe in a higher power at all - there's your option 8. Done.

What more do you need here, exactly?

Jejune it may be - this isn't meant to be the Encyclopaedia Galactica Religiosa; I don't claim to be a religious expert knowing everything about every type of religion. It's just a quick poll to gauge the general feeling on religion - as in having faith in a higher power - from members who feel like participating. This is why I used terms like "god/s" and "faith" instead of just God and Christianity.

I'm not trying to look like I've now decided I meant it all along - it's been there all along. My draft of the post didn't have those bits in red or green; I rewrote it to include those and rephrased the poll options accordingly BEFORE posting. In summary, I did mean it all along. That's kinda why it's there in the OP.

Incidentally, you were quoted the way you were since JUB doesn't offer an "in summary" option. I think you'll find that what I said summed up your post rather neatly.
