^ Doubt it. Mind you that the sales numbers of many countries are unavailable for the normal charts enthusiast (e.g. Germany). But the overall trend of this list and the position of the artists is accurate. Except Whitney has actually sold 2 million worldwide so far. But Boyle has done great thus far in terms of sales. Congrats to her. Haven't heard her album yet but may check out some tracks online. :)

its funny how people were predicting whitney would FLOP before her album even came out and now she has the number 3rd highest album by a female WORLDWIDE. Proved all the haters wrong!! and her album definitely deserved to be nominated with some awards. But it just proves how screwed up the awards are!

^ The Grammy voters are faulty & biased (as hell). All the BIG DIVAS are never really Grammy "favorites" anyway. Anytime you have people like Beyonce and Alicia Keys -- two relatively "new" artists -- having won MORE Grammys than artists like Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, ect -- people who paved the way and have been in the game 20 years or so, then you know somethin aint right.

I would actually agree with this. You know something isn't right when Beyonce is on a path to have 13-15 Grammy's, when Whitney, Celine, and Mariah only have 5-6 each.

I have trouble with these numbers. I assume they just take into account albums that were RELEASED in 2009.

Lady GaGa for one actually sold 350,000 copies of The Fame Monster in America alone (200,000 copies of the EP and 150,000 copies of the deluxe version of the album, which is The Fame/The Fame Monster). it also charted well around the world.

well done Lily Allen. never knew she was such a big seller. her album was great.

Yes, I think these numbers are for albums released in 2009. I know for a fact that Taylor Swift has sold more than 1.5 million copies of "Fearless" this year (she is at about 3 million just in the U.S alone), but her album was released last year.

That's probably because Beyoncé plays a large part in writing/producing her own stuff, unlike the other three divas.

Um, Mariah writes all of her own material. She always has.

And it has been repeatedly questioned just how "large of a part" Beyonce plays in writing her own material.

Would the Hannah Montana soundtrack be counted? I haven't heard it but I understand her dad sings (among others) on some of the tracks making it more of a Various Artists album than a Miley Cyrus one.

pumkin,

did we have a relapse last night. are you in crisis? someone call the state of maryland department of social services.

i know i should have taken probability and statics back in junior high because then i could teach you how to interpret this list.

since it seems like you're out to prove something, we'll use ms. houston as an example.

those figures are based on 13 weeks worth of sales, as opposed to one for ms. boyle.

ms. houston had no competition the week her cd was released.

ms. houston was the most anticipated comeback of the year.

clive davis' hype machine worked overtime promoting ms. houston. as a matter of fact i would guess when you compare ms. houston's sales versus the money spent on promotion, she will be in the red until her tour her next year. but then the cost of insuring ms. houston's voice may keep her in the red.

when you take those factors into consideration ms. houston's chart position will drop dramatically.

looking forward to you updating this list weekly until the end of the year.

Yes, it really is mind-boggling how these new artists can come along and rack up many more Grammys than the trailblazing, record-breaking divas of the industry. That's all I need to know the awards are flawed.

Hah. True. Boyle will easily outsell Whitney in a matter of 2-3 weeks.

I'd like to add that the real test for Whitney will be when she releases her next CD that doesn't have this "comeback" story attached to it. Truth be told, that accounted for much of the hype, anticipation, and success for the album. It will be interesting to see how she does when she doesn't have that to rely on.

Hey boo. Sorry dear, but you wasted your time typing all that up for me because I aint gonna dedicate two minutes of my time to you by reading over it.

....."Nothin But Love", though! And Whitney still among the top, no matter how you want to look at it and set up theories and reasons to why she is. ;)

Whitney's never had a flop album. Even her LAST (weakest) album "Just Whitney" went past Platinum. it might have been a "flop" by Whitney-standards, but some of the hottest artist out right now WISH they could go Platinum and they can't. Even with a hit song. And Whitney was was drugged out and yelling "crack is whack" at the time. Whitney Houston moves units. FACT. She's a cash cow for her label. Always has been. She moves units regardless of her voice/troubles and she brings in high ratings (Gave Oprah her best ratings in YEARS and the night Whitney Houston appeared on "The X Factor", she gave the show their HIGHEST ratings EVER.)

Damn, took you two minutes to read that? Took me less than two minutes to type it out, on my phone.

No need to be so hostile, you trying to impress Taurean79 or somethin'?

lol girl pleeze. Taurean aint my hubby. :p And nah, it doesn't take me that long to read that. I usually skim through your posts by 5 seconds at the most because they are typically a whole bunch of nonsense and not worthy of a full read-through. No offense. :D

i agree and that is true you know. If you think about it ALL whitneys albums have sold extremely well. Shes never really had a flop album her whole career. Just whitney was the only album that didnt do much sales......and that was mostly because she BARELY promoted the thing. if she had promoted it more it would have sold even more. but she wasnt in much shape to go out and promote it properly. it still went platinum plus tho. These days that is GOOD.

what happened, i thought we were on good terms? why the change of heart. why are you taking out all your hostilities out on me instead of the grammy voters?

i don't think ms. houston would approve of your behaviour, you being her number one fan and all.

lol....yeah we still on good terms (I guess). I just have to still check your ass every now and make sure you know your place. I'm runnin this. :p
