At the time of my departure, I recall thinking that this place had turned into the gay version of Stormfront. I checked in periodically to see if it was still the case. I prefer innocuous discussion over debates about whether or not particular groups of people deserve to exist. I recall quite a few good posters being driven off by the biphobia and transphobia on these boards.

Yes. I greatly miss several bisexuals who were regulars here and valued contributors and friends.
There have been definite extinctions on JUB, much as on Earth.
At the time I joined in 2005 or 2006, we saw a lot of Islamophobes, and Andreus ran counter to that, as a real persona or created. There was also a bit of romancing at that time, probably an artifact of the age of the internet and nascent hookup sites. That epoch ended.
Then, there were a series of crusades closely tied to U.S. presidential and national politics. Much like Gettysburg or Berlin, JUB was marched over and shelled as factions swept back and forth. That smoke has also cleared, for the most part. Lot of leafless trees left with their arms outstretched, barren now.
What we also miss are the seekers, the young and old gays finding their way to a greater society of gays, asking probing questions to learn what other gay men do, think, and believe about a number of important topics. That seems gone for some obvious reasons, mostly that the internet has provided many sites now where they can find such information, like YouTube, podcasts, and even webcam porn chat rooms.
Then the whole site went into a tailspin of endless race threads for a time, and it was like some dinosaur-ending meteorite had struck. But gradually, vitality has returned, although changed.
JUB is still worth coming to, but has aged significantly. It's much like the difference between the society one makes young in adulthood vs. those mates one finds at the point of retirement.
Welcome back again.
