The poem wasn't written until 1814.

In 1814, England hadn't been the mother country to the U.S. since the War of Independence, more than 30 years before.

By 1814, the colonies were not the U.S. They were Newfoundland and in Canada, and they never fought England.

The narrator is an idiot.
