we have a new greenhouse for the sole/soul purpose of harvesting butterflies - our garden is already butterfly friendly and bird friendly - it's like a wildlife preserve - they have to stop giving my partner 4 day weekends

he truly provides me with a surrounding that is nothing short of paradise - so grateful

yes - the idea behind the greenhouse is to protect the chrysalis and caterpillars from predators until they hatch - one of the top panels was was replaced with screen so that it wouldn't get to hot inside -

we already have a lot of butterflies as the yard has been planned to be butterfly and bird friendly - this is going to transform it into an extravaganza

You do realise that birds eat butterflies. I am sure they are very grateful for the buffet

the birds and other prey are more interested in the chrysalis and caterpillars than they are trying to catch a moving butterfly - it is the entire point of protecting them until they complete metamorphosis.... after transforming it is the first few hours when they are also most vulnerable when they are perched until their wings dry and they can fly - it is after that we release them

phase 2 is now complete - the landscaping in front of and the right side of the plot...

phase 3 remains a question mark - in clearing for the project we created a cave like situation to the left of the greenhouse - we have some ideas about a wood bowed arch or statuary or both - would be neat to find a large troll like figure but our guess is that would be very difficult to find so we are considering a large Buddha - it is undetermined at present...
