  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

The Census is boring

Sister, you are preaching to the choir!

That's why I also refuse to submit my Federal and State Income taxes. I can't believe that the Government not only wants to know my name, address and color of my skin, BUT it also wants to know how much money I made last year! And I have to list my Social Security number?

Sure, I'll give that information to the cable company, the phone company, the bank, and the credit card company.

But the Federal Government? Hell no!

"An invasion of my privacy actually" doesn't even begin to describe the outrage.

The Founding Fathers who gave us Americans the most beautiful gift of all - The Constitution - would be outraged that such an invasion of privacy as the US Census exists!

I say leave the form blank. That will make sure that the Feds stay out of your business!

Don't throw it in the trash. Put it in the mail so the government has to pay the postage. That will teach them to be so nosy!

Say, on your way past the kitchen could you pick me up some tin foil for my hat? Thx.

I got it yesterday. However I'm living with 3 other roommates so I have to wait for them to come back and fill in their information, and I'm not gonna give them my phone number to call. :( I think they also wanna know how many illegal immigrants are in the country by asking sneaky questions of the same thing on the form.

I filled mine out, took about 5 minutes. Now, the letter they sent last week to tell me I was going to get another letter (the census form) was a total waste of money.

You people are smokin funny cigaretts or sumthin stupid !!

Geeze, it's a two minute deal --

as was said above -- ALL of the information is readily available thru other sources.
JEEZUS H CHRISTMAS -- I GET OFFERS in the mail every day to re-do my mortgage - and they know the EXCACT amount of my current one --
You can get age information on practically ANYBODY if you think you know most of their name and city/state. you can find them and their relatives - without paying a dime !!

Asking you to summarize how many people live at one address and what race they are is HARDLY an INVASION OF PRIVACY --

and i gots news for those of you who do not comply - not only will an agent show up but there can be penalties and "citations" for not complying !!

so what's the big deal - stick your name and birthday on there - and check off a race (and don't fucking lie) and send it back - you don't even have to put a stamp on it !!

JockBoy you're losing it on this anti-american-paranoia trip. It's like talking to McCarthy all of a sudden.

Privacy, though not a concern I have with a national census (there are bigger fish to fry) is a serious and legitimate concern, particularly in the United States and the United Kingdom, but also in Canada and other countries. US has patriot act, Britain has a bunch of home office laws, and canada has its famous security certificates.

Certainly for people to be even peripherally aware of these issues and then relate them to the census is not far-fetched (even if the connection is ultimately not borne out) and it is certainly not some anti-american conspiracy to point out how illiberal and lax many western countries are becoming about civil liberties and the private sphere, including of course the US.

Laws are cavalierly waived, and cavalierly rewritten in your country, in mine, the UK and elsewhere.

Sister, you are preaching to the choir!

Say, on your way past the kitchen could you pick me up some tin foil for my hat? Thx.

Ha Ha Ha! That's so funny, I forgot to laugh.

When ACORN flies in a Black Helicopter to drag you off to a FEMA cell because you didn't fill out the Census Form, will you still be laughing?

You want some tin foil? I'll send you some tin foil. Write me at:

Please include a Self-Addressed Stamped Envelope. I'm running out of those "Forever" Stamps, just like the Postal Service knew I would.

"Forever Stamps!" Fuckers took me for $20. But like the Who sing, "Won't Get Fooled Again!"

Thx.

p.s. Send some extra stamps if you got them.

AND another thing...........painfully obvious -- I thought !! but no..........

This is a U.S. CENSUS -- it has

ABSO-FUCKING-LOOTLEY

NOTHING - I REPEAT NOTHING TO DO WITH PEOPLE LIVING IN OTHER COUNTRIES --

You people are smokin funny cigaretts or sumthin stupid !!

Geeze, it's a two minute deal --

Oh honey, this is JUB....

Some folks here will get into an heated, pissy argument over the time of day.

I'm not exactly sure why that is, but there you go....

Piggy - was the one you threw out the letter that told you that the actual form was comming? it's odd if you actually got two of the same thing -
but you better fill it out this time !!
OR ELSE !!

(don' make me turn this car around )

I know a family who is homeless. Will they be counted? Probably not because they do not have an address to receive the form.

'At the Census Bureau we understand that these can be challenging times for many people. Because of this, we created the Service Based Enumeration (SBE) operation. The SBE is designed to provide an opportunity for people experiencing some form of displacement or lack of permanent address to be included in the census, by counting them at service-based locations, such as homeless shelters, soup kitchens, etc. The Be Counted form is another way people can take part in the census. Be Counted forms are census forms that are available at various community locations for use by people who either did not receive a census form in the mail or who believe they were not otherwise included on any other census form.'

And the penalty for lying:
'What if I provide false information?

According to Title 13, Chapter 7, Subtitle 2, anyone who willfully gives an answer that is false could be fined up to $500.'

Title 13

Sec. 221. Refusal or neglect to answer questions; false answers

(a) Whoever, being over eighteen years of age refuses or willfully neglects, when requested by the Secretary, or by any other authorized officer or employee of the Department of Commerce or bureau or agency thereof acting under the instructions of the Secretary or authorized officer, to answer, to the best of his knowledge, any of the questions on any schedule submitted to him in connection with any census or survey provided for by subchapters I, II, IV, and V of chapter 5 of this title, applying to himself or to the family to which he belongs or is related, or to the farm or farms of which he or his family is the occupant, shall be fined not more than $100.

(b) Whoever, when answering questions described in subsection (a) of this section, and under the conditions or circumstances described in such subsection, willfully gives any answer that is false, shall be fined not more than $500. (c) Notwithstanding any other provision of this title, no person shall be compelled to disclose information relative to his religious beliefs or to membership in a religious body.

violation of the 5th amendment

fuck'em

No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offence to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.

I was listening to an Oklahoma radio station today and it was stated that only 66% of the people in that state responded to the last census.

Hard to believe.

I intend to respond immediately, don't want Big Brother knocking on my door....

Lol I never thought I see complaints from people that the Census isn't prying ENOUGH into their lives

These census people always make a big to-do about filling out this damn thing, and I've never gotten one.

I'm registered to vote and vote in every election. The damn county can always find me for jury duty, so I don't know what I have to do to get on the list for these census forms.

Are you the head of house for your abode? It doesn't get sent to an individual, it gets sent to a household, every address in the US.

Another information and policing function ...big brother in america in action.

Geez, what a stupid post! I hope you were just joking and not serious...otherwise, it's a sad post.

Paper? Again?

Why can't we do it online?

I agree wholeheartedly. I know security is an issue, but surely someone can figure out a way to make it work. Sigh...maybe in 2020.
