The Christina Aguilera Mega-thread

Re: Aguilera: Bionic [Spring 2010]

I hate boys is the international single & You lost me radio remix is for US

Re: Aguilera: Bionic [Spring 2010]

^I have to agree. No one can touch Christina when it comes to vocals (well...maybe Leona). She shines the best on her ballads.

Re: Aguilera: Bionic [Spring 2010]

Turns out her team has remixed You Lost me for the radio, I hate it. It doesn't sound as dark as it originally was. I also heard that I Hate Boys may be the international single. She (or RCA) needs to get their act together.

Re: Aguilera: Bionic [Spring 2010]

^^ Agreed. The new 'YLM' edit is TERRIBLE. This era is such a mess lmao.

Re: Aguilera: Bionic [Spring 2010]

Its almost like a game of "Lets do the worst things possible". Sadly she seems largely to blame. Her taste level is really bad. She very in control of horrendous bionic looks and she chose to put her album on hold for this movie. which i cant even believe they made this movie. This is not the time for a chick flick about a singer doing a movie playing a singer/performer. It's all about buddy comedies and big blockbusters with megan fox and kristen stewart.

Re: Aguilera: Bionic [Spring 2010]

The ship has sunk. Let it lie.

Re: Aguilera: Bionic [Spring 2010]

Personally, I don't consider the poor album sales to be a "flop". Her hardcore fans obviously really enjoy it and I think that was the goal for this project. Even if this entire thing ultimately becomes a career "embarrassment" (à la Madonna's Erotica), it will remain popular among her fans. As far as the big mistakes she's apparently making, I think some of you are taking it way too seriously and should remember the fact that she's said from the start that this album is "all about having fun" and experimenting. Even if it's a huge commercial failure and all the fat gay bloggers rip it to shreds, it's not going to kill her career, because she's far too talented for one album to turn people off of her.

Poor album sales = flop. She's a popstar.

Just think of the money being sunk into this campaign. It's not that the album is even that bad (it at least has "You Lost Me," which is one of the best things she'll ever record), it's just that they doomed any chance of its success by releasing a song as ghastly as "Not Myself Tonight."

Re: Aguilera: Bionic [Spring 2010]

Not everyone measures the credibility/importance of an album by its commercial success.

Someone said earlier in this thread that she's not going to make new fans with this album - but I actually have a few friends who are huge electronic fans (who detest modern pop) and have bought this album, because it's such a refreshing break from what's going on in music at the moment. In my opinion, that is far more important than statistics or mainstream approval.

Well, statistics and commercial success may not be important to some people, but it's important to her record company. If she's not selling, she'll be one more album away from getting dropped.

I'm not going to disagree with you, but we're talking about Christina Aguilera, not the World/Inferno Friendship Society. Pop is a different beast. Numbers matter.

Re: Aguilera: Bionic [Spring 2010]

I agree..the radio mix of YLM is disgusting:( WTFFFF are they doing?!!!!!!!!!! They ruined a very powerful/emotional song. AND "I Hate Boys"?? as the international single? I've heard it a few times on the radio this morning here in Sydney and it's WEAK!!! (one of my least faves on the album). Hell even "My Girls" would've been more infectious or "Vanity".

Re: Aguilera: Bionic [Spring 2010]

so, ive been listening to bionic for a while now, and i feel like throwing in my impressions. forgive me for not having waded through to entire thread so far.

the bad: she always seems one step behind (first she was copying p!nk, then amy, now gaga), there is too much filler and too many mawkish ballads, she is helplessly self-centered (the way she makes her daughter say how mommy is the best), and she generally tries way too hard.
the good: despite her copycat tendencies, aguilera certainly has personality. and her vulgar way is part of that, and im kinda enjoying it. there are some nice tracks, and i like her choice of collaborators. needless to mention her vocal talent.

so, i think bionic is a typical xtina album, a mixed bag with the same strength and weaknesses as her previous two.

That's a bit drastic, don't you think? Let's be honest, Christina has two things that her contemporaries lack: The ability to actually sing AND to incorporate that talent into pop music. That alone will save her from such an extreme fate.

Ahaahaa, I get it. I was just saying her fans don't care about the numbers. Sadly, she's reached a level of fame where something like this album could be considered by some to be a career low, which is slightly depressing & ridiculous, because it's NOT a horrible album. Of course, not every song is great - but her courage to go against the norm and experiment with different sounds makes up for "radio hits" in my opinion. Hopefully, the limited/one-dimensional views of the music business (and mainstream music fans) won't deter her from taking such chances again in the future.

That's great. However, this is the entertainment business...it's about selling. Talent matters very little in the business. Christina has four octaves and a powerhouse voice? Who cares? She's not making money, especially as a pop act. That's not my perspective, but that's how her label will view her.

Many other pop acts can sing as well; they may not be able to sing as well as Christina, but there are others who can sing. I was being a bit drastic when I said that she will get dropped, but in today's unstable market where the value of music has dropped and artists have less value, Bionic would put a major dent in her career.

Re: Aguilera: Bionic [Spring 2010]

Even if Christina's album does not make a turn around in sales I doubt that this will effect her in the future. She has established herself after three(four if you count her spanish album) successful albums. She will not be the first nor the last established artist to have an album with weak sales.

Precisely. When it comes down to it, Christina hasn't expanded beyond her roots -- she's still a bubblegum pop princess who values style over substance. If her talent is so amazing, why does she continually rely on schtick rather than, oh I don't know, her musical abilities?

It's because she'll always be an act, not an artist. I don't care how many octaves she can sing, she simply doesn't have the chops to make it as a legitimate performer.

Re: Aguilera: Bionic [Spring 2010]

Everytime I listened to I Hate Boys, I think of that target commercial.
