The Christina Aguilera Mega-thread

Re: Aguilera: Bionic [Spring 2010]

I think the name of this thread is really old now. Can't we have it changed to just "news about Christina Aguilera" or something??

Thank you. It's been driving me crazy.

Besides, Bionic came out so long ago....and it sucked and flopped. Hard.

Re: Aguilera: Bionic [Spring 2010]

True. I think the "pastie" pic might have been a beginning shot of her pearl outfit from "Burlesque." :)

I don't know. She released all the wrong songs as singles. The album would have been a huge hit if it were released in...oh...2007. I don't feel that all the crap that's been shit on this album is entirely justified.

Took a long time to grow on me. It's not a bad album by any means. Her voice is just not meant for electropop/Gaga stuff.

Maybe she'll explore rock music next. That'd be pretty cool.

Re: Aguilera: Bionic [Spring 2010]

When its all said and done I really do like "Bionic". I am biased though, her voice just sends me places and I love it. :)

Re: Aguilera: Bionic [Spring 2010]

Poor girl... you can see the stress on her face

Re: Aguilera: Bionic [Spring 2010]

I still say this was a pretty damn good album. She def had some mis-steps on it (the promotion was pretty odd, she should have never had that horrible video for 'Not Myself Tonight' and she should have released an upbeat song instead of 'You Lost Me') but she has some flawless songs.

'You Lost Me', 'Life Me Up' and 'Little Dreamer' will go down as some of my favorite songs this decade!

Re: Aguilera: Bionic [Spring 2010]

I realize I'm about a decade late to this party...but then again, so was Bionic (which is too bad, since I've heard that it was originally planned - and mostly produced - for a lot earlier, when it would have been a lot more obviously groundbreaking and a lot less seemingly "wait for me, wait for me!!" but Burlesque shooting schedule made it have to be pushed to where it was. Of course, that was Christina's choice to make, and it's been pretty clear that her personal priority is the film...which is probably why she's been so oddly "whatevs" about the album's numerous disasters.

Anyway, Bionic is far and away the album that I've spent the most critical effort and sheer mental energy and time on, because in some ways it's seriously epic (mainly in terms of production, credit to Tricky Stewart, John Hill & Switch, Ladytron, Polow Da Don) and in others it's so appallingly awful it's really worrisome...especially because a lot of the things they fucked up are the exact same fuckups that happened with Stripped... it's forgivable to err on your sophomore album, but to do the same shit again eight years later on your fourth is either criminally lazy or maddeningly stupid...neither of which bodes well for a pop singer turning 30.

See? I can't even help getting into it when I actually meant to post the in-depth, Pitchfork-style review I did on the album for my pop music blog, Vertigo Shtick. I'd be really interested to hear from other Aguilera fans/Bionic enthusiasts or detractors about your thoughts, so I was stoked to come across this thread.

Check it out if you possibly can, and let me know what you think! I'm still pretty new to this, and would be very grateful for any feedback, and especially grateful to those who find a moment to spread the word somehow!

Re: Aguilera: Bionic [Spring 2010]

I actually LOOOOVE Stripped...it was my Bible Freshmen year of college while I was coming out. But it was harshly received by many critics for a lot of the reasons Bionic was: too long, too mismatched, too late, terrible choice of lead single, etc.

Re: Aguilera: Bionic [Spring 2010]

Stripped is her best album no matter what

and is still so far my fav album ever

Re: Aguilera: Bionic [Spring 2010]

I remember listening to "Walk Away," and "Underappreciated," and "Can't Hold Us Down" out on my ancient discman on the quad my Freshmen year of college, as I was grappling with coming out, and how I dragged my best friend into my dorm room to show her the "Beautiful" video and make a big deal out of how cool Xtina was for showing two guys kissing...like I wanted her to get the hint :)

Re: Aguilera: Bionic [Spring 2010]

Fighter, walk away, soar, cruz & Keep on singin my song are IMO her best songs so far

Re: Aguilera: Bionic [Spring 2010]

'Stripped' is my favorite album! 'Soar', 'Beautiful', 'Loving Me 4 Me', 'Walk Away', 'Underappreciated', 'Get Mine, Get Yours'....so many classic songs!

This was def my coming of age cd.

Re: Aguilera: Bionic [Spring 2010]

I'd have to go with "Ain't No Other Man" as, IMHO, her best, because it was so gutsy and risky and still managed to sound totally appropriate on the radio despite being TOTALLY different from anything else out at the time (or since).

Re: Aguilera: Bionic [Spring 2010]

I don't know if I can pick just one song to be her best....it would probably be 'Little Dreamer', 'You Lost Me' or 'Soar'. All of her songs really touch me in some way or another.

Wait...maybe it's 'Oh Mother'...or 'Without You'...I can't decide.

Re: Aguilera: Bionic [Spring 2010]

I have to say I'm a big Stripped supporter as well. I think is her best album so far, from the music to the image. I love how she mixed different genres and just did whatever the hell she wanted. Most of her signature songs are from that album (Dirrty, Fighter, Beautiful) so it was a great one.

My favorite Christina songs would be: Come on over, most of Stripped, Save me from myself and Lady Marmalade.

Re: Aguilera: Bionic [Spring 2010]
