The Coming of Josh

Chapter 830 – Heading Home and Introductions Begin

He seems to grasp the financial aspects of deals also,” Ken replied, still somewhat marveling at the spreadsheet. I chuckled. “How old a guy is he? It appears he has a lot of experience in this area,” Ken asked.

“He’s maybe 23 or 24. The dude is very smart and has like a photographic memory. He got a perfect score on the L-SAT’s,” I informed him.

“No shit? No one gets a perfect score on those. He’s only 23 or 24? Seriously?” Ken asked somewhat blown away. I smiled.

“Well, it seems as if Forest and I have been invited to your open house at your new brewery this evening. “Well, if Tuck and Millie get to know me and like me, as you know how likeable I am, then at some point in time if Forest comes out to Tuck then he may already like me to the point it makes it easier on everyone,” Cal suggested. I shook my head.

“Very cunning. I should have known you’d come up with something like that. Who knows it just may work. Okay, so you and Forest don’t know each other when I introduce you to him, Tuck and Millie tonight. Got it. Just keep Will away from you or he may blow the deal,” I suggested.

I shook my head and jumped in the elevator to go up to my office.

“As far as we can tell, Tex has been extremely happy these days. Johnny has been working with Garth who says he’s been a huge help. He’s still spends a good amount of time working for his same company, but does that after he works with Garth some during the day. I think we have a chance to keep him although he’s not crazy about the winters anymore which he thought he was escaping from moving to Key West. Everyone who interacts with him seems to like him. He seems like a great guy and Tex sure as hell likes him,” Will replied. Again, coming from Will and Logan, I liked the sound of that knowing Garth really did need some help and Tex needed love.

I got a phone call from the guard in the lobby saying that I had three visitors, my pilots and one other guest. I told the guard to send them to elevator #3 and I would send a signal from my phone which would open the doors and bring the elevator directly to our floor. He told me they were on their way. I quickly activated the elevator to bring the three to our 8th floor. I told Will and Logan I’d be over later to the dormitory, but I had to set up Lat with Jordan and Nate first. I got another hug from each of them wishing me luck with getting Lat set up.

So sorry to take so long to get back to you guys. I had a new allergy shot on Saturday that gave me a bad reaction. I had flu like symptoms with a temperature that took me out of commission for a couple of days and I wasn't able to write. I hate when that happens. Chapter 831 – Introducing Lat and Touring the Brewery Before Open House

The rents from all our office tenants covers all the expenses of the building including the debt service plus yields us a profit. So, in essence, our rent is free. I think we do show an office expense on the books, but as far as cash flow, we’re very positive,” I explained.

“You operate this huge company and have these plush offices, yet you are so down to earth with everyone and mostly live like the rest of us. You do surround yourself with friends living in your apartment and, from what the guys tell me, provide housing in a great place for everyone that needs it. You’re really the most humble, down to earth executive ever, and you haven’t even graduated from college yet,” Lat commented.

“Hey, you’re doing everything and know everything an attorney does, and you haven’t graduated from law school, so what difference does it make if you can still be successful?” I asked. Lat agreed that was true. “You guys enjoy your coffee and chat while I go talk to Jordan and Nate about Lat so I can set him up with them today and plan out a course of action,” I told the Dale and Cam. They said that wasn’t any problem at all. I left them be, then headed to Jordan’s office.

“Well, the prodigal son returns home, I see,” Jordan teased, as I entered his office and gave him a big hug.

“You do realize there are just two of us in legal don’t you? I mean it’s not like we have paralegals to throw some of our shit at to help out here. Although, now that I think about it, maybe it would be a good idea to hire one that might need a job while they’re going to school,” Jordan added, thinking out loud.

“I’d be all for that and in fact, I hired one for you and he starts today. How’s that for efficiency?” I asked. They looked at each other and shook their heads.

“WTF, Josh, you weren’t even going to let us interview him? I mean what if the dude is a dud and doesn’t really know much? No disrespect, but are you capable of assessing a possible candidate for a paralegal position? I know you’re crazy smart, but damn, can you at least let Nate and I participate in interviewing a candidate so we at least get someone that can help out? I brought him back to help you with this assignment. Now do you think we might be able to come to a reasonable offer, once Ken puts Tom’s revenue numbers to the project in the timeframe I outlined?” I asked. “Well, I know you guys have a late charter tomorrow afternoon so you can drop him off at the apartment and we’ll keep him Saturday night for Gay Night anyway. He can help us with the crowd. “Yes, Josh can be one hell of a slave driver, but he’s a lot of fun too. We’ve done some great things and have had some amazing success. We have to pinch ourselves occasionally just to remind ourselves we aren’t dreaming when we look at our numbers. You’ll get to meet the accounting folks also, Ken, our CFO and his Director of Accounting, Jonas and their crew as we work very closely with them. “Well, I had help from Josh and the new manager that will be running the division, Greg. They worked tirelessly with me to get this done while they were there. I hope you guys can make sense of it, but I’m here to help. So, you guys all have some gorgeous offices, kind of like a large prestigious law firm would have except you don’t have clients other than the divisions of Stoney Enterprises, I guess,” Lat commented as he looked over Jordan’s office.

“Yes, Buzz, the architect that you met last week who was down there with Josh, kind of overdid himself, but it really didn’t cost us much with the way he worked it. Nate has an office like mine and we have at least three more smaller versions outfitted like this one that are unoccupied, so I guess you’ll be the first one to occupy one of them if you decide to stay with us and go to school here. We have a conference room here for the admin section to use and we have a law library also, but as you know, a lot of the case studies and tort law are all online anymore so you don’t have to invest in all that paper and binding, but it feels good to be surrounded by the law at times. It helps one think better, Nate and I believe anyway,” Jordan told him. “I understand you probably read most of the books we’d have anyway and even memorized them from what Josh and Greer told us,” Jordan added. I’ll make some calls to the University and see about getting you an interview there and a tour, plus a course outline based on your experience and concentration of study. We know what we’d like to have business wise anyway. We probably won’t be trying any criminal cases anyway. We have an excellent attorney here in town I used to work for on the corporate side that handles any criminal issues, not that we have that many, but have helped others out that are associated with us. Josh can fill you in on those cases sometime as he seems to find a way to get stuck helping people out of some crazy assed jams, nothing sinister,” Jordan commented. Lat looked at me as if that was interesting. I just told him ‘no good deed went unpunished’ at times. Lat shook his head.

“Well, you might as well bring up the spreadsheet and get Ken up here and go to work on that project. It’s almost lunch time, so you might as well bring Lat to our senior staff lunch meeting,” I suggested. Jordan replied, ‘happily’. I gave Lat a quick hug and told him not to let Nate and Jordan get the best of him. He assured me he thought they seemed like great guys. I chuckled at the thought getting strange looks from them both.

I took off and headed back to my office wanting to touch bases with Tom and James to tell them where we were with everything. I wasn’t sure you’d be able to pull the deal off this fast. “I heard from Dale who said the six pilots were good to go. They all did great on their flight tests according to them. “Yes, and I told them we’d put them on the payroll as of Monday and to spend next week finding housing and getting settled. Greg was going to contact them all and get them started. “So Greg is already coordinating the scheduling of the flights and setting up the trips then so everything is in place to start. James and I will touch bases with him and see what else he needs from us. We already have landing permits for both airports so we’re good there. We just have to set up our business account for revenue and expense purposes, but I’m sure Greg can take care of that,” Tom mentioned. I told him Greg was already setting up the accounts, working with Ken on that and Garth would be going with me to the closing to make sure he was tied into all our systems and had Stoney Aviation’s software we used in the City. “Aren’t you just the efficient one?” Tom chided. The four of us are getting along just great and a lot of good information is coming out of this meeting we wouldn’t have had, if he hadn’t been here with us. It was good you brought him back with you as that’s going to save us a lot of time,” Jordan replied.

“I like the fact he understands the financial side of this project as well as the legal implications,” Ken added, pleasing me to hear. “We should have this wrapped up on Monday, or early Tuesday, I would suspect,” Ken added. Jordan and Nate agreed.

“I will say in front of all these guys, that we believe Latimer to be very talented and think he would make an excellent addition to our legal team here as we expand and grow. I think his finishing up his law degree here in Uni would work well for our business as we continue to expand and grow. His growth would almost mirror our growth so by the time he graduates, we’ll have more than enough for him to do and probably way before then. We’re all in favor of what you proposed, Josh,” Jordan commented, patting Lat on the back, exciting Lat’s demeanor.

“Lat, do you think you could tolerate these two lawyers you’d have to work with?” I asked. Lat smiled.

“Once I get them trained, I think we’ll all do well together,” Lat replied, making Jordan and Nate shake their heads, telling him he’d be the junior partner in this deal. Lat chuckled. “Like you, Josh, Dale and Cam, everyone I’ve met in this organization, I’ve truly enjoyed. Ken, Nate and Jordan are no exception. They are professionals and what a nice change of pace for me to work with professionals and not idiot clients in off the street. I’d love to work with guys like these. Even Jonas was very professional this morning. It would be a thrill to work here with all of you if you’ll accept me. I know I need to get into law school here, and it’s late in the season to be enrolled by the fall semester, but I guess we’ll find out more about that on Monday when we visit the dean of the law school for my interview.
