Chapter 235 – A Shareholders Meeting and An Initiation

I went back upstairs to get more coffee and Jordan called me. “Josh, I just wanted to let you know I’ll be over an hour before the meeting to go over anything we need to discuss beforehand and to review the agenda with you. I’ll also give you a thumbnail sketch of what we’ll discuss as far as a merger/consolidation plan. Greer and I already went over that a few days ago, but you need to see it. I told them that we had a buyer for the stock and he would, in time, replace that $15,000. Thad had offered to purchase Ashton’s stock and that would be the second order of business. There was some disbelief over whether Thad would qualify to buy the stock, but I told them we needed a motion to accept the redemption for Ashton before we moved on to the second matter. Andy moved to accept and Trevor seconded it. Motion passed unanimously.
That brought us to the second other business item, the acceptance of a new shareholder, Thad. I asked Thad to get up and state why he wanted to purchase stock and become a member of our group. He got up and cleared his throat, noticeably nervous for what he was about to say.
“I have lived among you guys for many weeks now. I have to admit at first, I thought it was really going to be tough to ride it out with most of you guys. I was dead wrong. Living with you and joining in some of your activities, but mostly working with you, I have grown to really appreciate all of you and what you all stand for, the love for one another, supporting one another, building an enterprise together with the care and love you have for each other. I marvel at you and so long to be a part of this great family and do my part to make it as successful as we possibly can. I believe in it, and most of all, I believe in all of you. You are my brothers and my family, and I want to be officially a part of you in the worst way,” he said then sat down. He got an applause.
“Is the new potential shareholder aware of a certain initiation procedure to be eligible for a shareholder in our business?” Andy asked. Thad stood back up again.
“I am, and am fully prepared to meet that challenge. In fact, I look forward to the opportunity of being with each one of you individually to show you my love and commitment to each of you,” he stated, then sat down again.
“I move that we accept Thad as a new shareholder, contingent upon his successful completion of the initiation process,” Trevor said, making the motion. Thad was kind of shocked, but extremely pleased.
“I second the motion,” Andy said. The motion passed unanimously. I could tell Jordan was a little confused as he typed in the motion and second on his laptop.
“Sorry, just never had a contingency on an initiation for holding up a stock transfer before. That’s a new one on me, but go on. You can explain it to me later,” he said, somewhat confused. I just smiled at him.
“Someone else may have a similar situation in another company, so I guess you might get used to some contingencies for stock acquisition,” I chided. He wasn’t sure whether to smile or not.
“The next order of business is a discussion on some possible changes to the operations of our bars. I was recently in some other establishments similar to ours that were organized as clubs. You could be an official member of the club, paying dues, dues which helped capitalize the business. The one I visited had monthly, 6-month and annual memberships, the annual being the less expensive per month. Now the clubs were open to the public, but had special events that members got a special price for and first chance at tickets. Some of these special events, non-members couldn’t attend because of the overwhelming sellout of the tickets to members first, therefor, making it advantageous to be a member and, thus, adding more working cash flow and profits to the business. Jake gave a progress report on the building and how much more we had to go.
