Chapter 720 - D
The minister gathered us all together and told us how this was all going to work. He talked to the guys first, saying we would be ushering peopled to their seats until it was time for the procession of bridesmaids. He moved to the front of a makeshift alter then said he would move up there with Tuck. I was to join and stand beside Tuck then Forest then Taylor. Then he informed us that Mary would come down the aisle slowly unaccompanied first and stand to the far side of the bride’s side. Maxine would be second coming down the aisle slowing as Mary did, then stand beside her. Chelsea then would come down the aisle slowly also and stand beside Maxine. Then there would be the wedding march. The entire congregation of people would stand and face the direction of the bride coming down the aisle being escorted by Millie’s father. Millie’s father would give her a kiss and then hand her hand to Tuck then be seated beside his wife. Then the minister would talk about the sanctity of marriage. The minister wanted to know if Tuck and Millie wanted him to ask if there was anyone in attendance that thought for some reason they should not be married to say it now or forever hold their peace. Tuck asked us if any of us objected to the marriage. We all said we promoted it wholeheartedly and wanted to see him get hitched, getting a laugh.
“There you have it sir. Question asked and answered so you can leave it out of tomorrow’s ceremony,” Tuck replied. The minister got a kick out of the way Tuck handled that. The minister then said he would have them say their vows. Tuck said this was a traditional wedding and they didn’t have any crazy vows to recite, just to ask the regular questions about taking each other to be husband and wife. That settled, the minister gave a shortened version of the vows that would be asked. As each vow was answered, the best man would give the ring to Tuck to put on Millie’s finger and the matron of honor would pass Tuck’s ring to Millie to put on Tuck’s finger. Then he would pronounce them husband and wife. Tuck said to keep it short and sweet as far as he was concerned. Millie bopped him one for that, but chuckled. The minister said Tuck should kiss the bride after he pronounced them man and wife. After that, the music would play again and Tuck would escort Millie back down the grass aisle as it would be outside tomorrow. When they were almost at the end of the chairs set up, I was to meet Chelsea in the middle and escort her down the aisle. Forest was to do the same with Maxine then Taylor with Mary. Then the rest of the attendees would file out aisle by aisle, only they could go anywhere they wanted since we were outdoors in the open. He said to watch out because it could be a mass stampede from the area. That made us laugh. He lined us all up and we went through the whole procedure. We all agreed that it looked good and we seemed to be comfortable with the process. Tuck even kissed Millie when the minister said he would pronounce them husband and wife. Chelsea’s husband, Joey, said Chelsea and I made a cute couple together. I had no idea what he was referring to.
We adjourned to a smaller banquet room beside where we held the rehearsal for the cocktail reception before the rehearsal dinner. Taylor, Forest and I huddled up together with beers as Tuck and Millie were being bombarded by well-wishers. Joey seemed to join us, as his wife was engaged with some other girlfriends of Millie’s that were invited to the rehearsal dinner, obviously coming from long distances. Millie had told me that she was excited to see everyone but there wouldn’t be that much time to get acquainted.
“So, I guess the guys are getting together after dinner for some drinks and some kind of impromptu bachelor party for Tuck?” Joey asked. I smiled, telling him that was the plan. He said he was looking forward to it. He said he didn’t really know Albert, having just met him when we did. Albert was by his wife’s side when she was talking to all the girls.
“So what are you into, Joey, what kind of career did you make for yourself?” I asked. He chuckled.
“I’m a VP of a private equity firm in Grand Rapids. A few of the older guys were retiring when I joined the firm and with a little hard work, I proved myself right off and made VP just recently,” he replied. “I understand you’re still in school but have a huge corporation already,” Joey mentioned. I smiled.
“Kind of happened by accident, but it just kept growing,” I replied.
“Bull shit. He’s the driving force of the company while he set the state record for long-distance swimming, is in business school and has acquired a few businesses along the way. We flew up here today in one of his corporate aircraft,” Taylor said, wanting Joey to know how important Taylor thought I was. I told Taylor he was embarrassing me. Taylor said bullshit again.
“Says our new Director of Human Resources that just graduated this year from Uni and is a frat brother long with Tuck, plus he was the President of the frat. Then you have one of the winningest coaches right here with Forest, who with Tuck won the national NCAAP championship this year,” I said, as I patted Forest on the back. Forest just smiled.
“I think I remember seeing you at that game with Forest and Tuck on national TV if I’m not mistaken,” Joey told me. I smiled, telling him I was there as their mascot. Joey laughed, saying he knew better than that. Forest put his arm around me and told me I was their inspiration and chief strategy officer. Joey thought that was great. We sipped our beers and talked on until we were told to sit down for dinner. There were place settings for everyone to sit. I had Tuck on my left who was at the head of the table with Millie, then Chelsea, then there was Joey, then others. Forest was on the other side with Maxine then Taylor, Mary and Albert. Then the parents and some of the cousins, aunts and uncles filled in the rest. I was impressed with the menu getting a small filet and a lobster tail. This was first class for sure. Millie’s father got up and spoke during desert telling us all how thankful he and her mother was that all of us were here to share this great event. They couldn’t believe their daughter was marrying such a famous guy. He said he was grateful for Tuck’s friends that came also, naming me, Forest and Taylor. He said Tuck had wonderful things to say about all of us how we all helped him through the years in many ways. We were a brotherhood way beyond what one would expect. We were that alright. Not sure how Forest and Taylor figured into that, but Tuck and I certainly were. Speaking of Forest, I kind of felt sorry for him as Maxine was monopolizing him something fierce. She was practically all over him.
After dinner, Millie kissed Tuck goodbye, saying she’d see him at the wedding but not before then. She gave me a hug and a kiss, telling me to take good care of him. I told her I’d take the best care ever of him. She was all excited to hear that. If she only knew, I thought to myself. Then she told us all to have fun, with a wink and a nod. We adjourned to our rooms to get more comfortable.
Back at the room, I told Tuck what I saw with Maxine and Forest. “That boy is absolutely guaranteed to get fucked tomorrow night, Josh. Maxine is cock hungry like you would believe. Millie says she thinks Maxine is a nympho. She says Maxine can’t keep a boyfriend. Millie thinks she fucks them to death until they can’t handle it anymore, if you could ever imagine that. If Forest doesn’t get laid tomorrow night, then there is something definitely wrong about him for sure. He could have a blast with that woman if he wants one. The best thing is, he’s never going to have to see her again. How sweet is that? He’s got it made,” Tuck said, rather excitedly. I felt kind of bad for for Forest, but I couldn’t tell Tuck.
The four of us guys met Albert and Joe for the bachelor party. Tuck was adamant about not wanting anything crazy, plus where were you going to find crazy fun in the boonies of northern Michigan. Beer and booze seemed to be our only options. We had snacks to go along with the beer, which helped. Millie’s father showed up, along with an uncle of hers, mainly to see if we had everything we needed. They said they’d leave us young guys to our own devices and then split, saying they were going to the resort bar. We did have a rather cute bartender to make drinks or pour beer for us. The IPA they had was decent but nothing exceptional. Once again, basketball seemed to dominate our conversation, as Albert was a huge fan it turned out. I didn’t know what the deal was, but every time I’d get up from our little circle of friends to grab a beer, or some salty snacks to help absorb the beer, Joey would follow me to the bartender. I was hoping to chat up the bartender some as he was kind of hot, but Joey was continually by my side. Joey said he wanted to tell me that he was on the swim team also in college, but was on the relay team, not the long-distance stuff that I set records for. I told him that was great he was a contender also.
